iphone update. order status moved from "back order" to "in progress", so there's hope of getting one in this lifetime. also, this from an email i got from a local pal this morning:

Thought for the day

Handle every stressful situation just like a dog.

If you can't eat it or hump it...

Piss on it and walk away.

this is an interesting (to me anyway) video of a guy playing myst for the first time. he apparently solved it in 9.5 hours with no help. it took me a *lot* longer than that. there are some ending spoilers, fyi:

i am currently downloading all the available episodes of the first doctor, william hartnell from 1963. i watched the very first episode, "an unearthly child", in it's entirety for the first time ever yesterday. i wonder what he would think of the current series. as i understand it, he loved playing the doctor and was very protective of the series, even after he retired.

this morning at 12:01 edt, the second incarnation of uru like (myat online:uru live) was shut down by gametap. i already miss it. it was an even more fantastic experience than the first time. uru has the best game community, hands down. needless to say i am very sad about it.
we will return to d'ni. the end has not yet been written. see you in the cavern, my friends.

i'm sitting in panera with the laptop. i've got fresh coffee (they just put the big pot out), "you're no rock and roll fun" by sleater-kinney is blasting on the headphones, and i've got a sesame bagel with cream cheese. right now, frozen in this small moment in the universe, life ain't bad at all.  i'm gonna enjoy it while it lasts. it's moments like these that make it all worthwhile.
now "white squirrel town" by the chickens. cool cool.

Nov. 14th, 2007 @ 11:23 am cultural say what now?
Current Mood: busy
i think i've posted about this before, but this time it really bears mentioning. at work we have a "director of cultural diversity".  every year we go through these "cultural celebrations" like hispanic month, black history month, etc. this month is "native american indian" month. their name, not mine.  as what passes for a celebration of this, there is a display in a case outside the library, and our food place is giving out samples of, as the woman who is our director calls it, "a southwestern style soup" (mistakenly called a northwestern style soup in her first email). the soup?
wait for it...

NEWINGTON, CT, Dec 15, 2006 -- In an historic move, the FCC has acted to drop the Morse code requirement for all Amateur Radio license classes. The Commission today adopted, but hasn't yet released, the long-awaited Report and Order (R&O) in WT Docket 05-235, the "Morse code" proceeding.

and anybody else that was on uru live three years ago. its coming back! cyan has teamed up with gametap and is reopening d'ni. you wont need the old software, itll be a client download from gametap with content download as released.  it will be $10 a month to play, but since its part of a regular gametap account you have access to all the other games also (NEW SAM AND MAX!!).  there will be a free "visitor" tryout with limited access, which i'll probably try to see if they got the lag issues fixed, or at least improved enough that things dont come to a standstill on a regular basis. i wont even mind having to do the old puzzles again. :) if it's decent i'll probably sign up. uru was the only mmorpg (other than city of heroes/villians) that ive really had any interest in and i was sorely disappointed when cyan killed the beta and the whole project. ive even got a better computer now to play it on! woot!

hi. im not dead, contrary to popular belief. i just wanted to belatedly make note of an anniversary that i missed a couple of weeks ago. november 17 marked the 40th anniversary of the firesign theatre's public debut on kpfk radio in los angeles. it was a 3 hour performance of "the oz film festival", an improv piece. a belated "shoes for industry" to the boys.
