Hey gang! Just a quick note before I go to work... I've been accepted to Vancouver International Film Festival! Anybody else get in? Current Mood: ecstatic | | Saturday, August 20th, 2005 | | 7:41 pm |
Howdy! Ha ha! I am reunited with my beloved computer, and now I return to my regularly scheduled internet activity.
... Well, kinda. I have to share a modem with the family computer (and my mother is NOT happy about me running a cord down the hall, let me tell you), my mother and father harbor this delusion that my computer should go in the computer room and not my bedroom, and don't get me started about them making designs on my television. Also, houses without cable jacks in every room should be illegal in this day and age, I think.
Also, I have a new job as a video store clerk... which I was excited about at first, until I figured out they have standards and actually believe in this "customer service" thing which means I can't fulfill my wish of becoming Randall from Clerks. Boo.
Anyway, I will update more once I finish changing all the settings on my computer from 'Shaw' to 'Earthlink' and my mother stops giving me the evil eye about the ethernet cable stretched across her bedroom door. :D

Hey Vancouverites... My father and I are leaving tonight to drive back to Vancouver to get my stuff. I should be there sometime around the 12-14th. Call me that weekend on my cell if you want to say hi. | | Sunday, July 24th, 2005 | | 12:35 am |
So, my little bro went with me to see The Island today. Was it a good movie? Who gives a crap! I don't even know! All I know is that there was a whole lot of Ewan McGregor with a side order of Sean Bean and suddenly I didn't care about paltry things like plot and dialogue anymore. What can I remember? Umm... #1) First Michael Bay movie that didn't have me fuming with rage in a long time... #2) Beautiful cars, motorcycles, flying thingies, and other assorted transportation. #3) Beautiful everything really... some gorgeous sets and cinematography. #4) Very. Painful. Moments. Literally some of the most painful looking hits, accidents, and predicaments of any movie I've ever seen. You will wince through this entire movie. #5) Interesting use of product placements. I think Bay was trying to say something, but I'm not sure what. Not limited to just one brand per type either... Puma, Rebok, Nike and Speedo all had very noticable presence and that was just in sportwear. #6) Amazing destruction sequences... Everything goes boom in spectacular ways. #7) Ewan. Ewan, Ewan, Ewan. I'm not going to say much about his performance, because I don't want to spoil too much about the plot, but he rocks my world. It's not going to win him an Oscar or anything, but he looks like he's having fun, and he does some rather clever things in the second hour that will make me buy this movie on DVD. #8) Alas, Sean Bean really didn't have much to do. Poor guy. Anyway, some good, some bad. Little better than average Summer Blockbuster. I think, oddly enough, Fantastic Four is still on top for the mid-summer films so far, however, 'cause it was just sheer cheezy fun, and the Island tried to pretend like it was being all deep at times. Hey gang, No exploding household appliances this week, although the car did crap out (something to do with the radiator... it probably exploded) but not while I was in it. However, I am supposed to mow the lawn this weekend (if we get a solidly sunny day in any time soon) and I'm sure there are lots of things that can explode on a lawnmower. Hell, there's even gasoline involved! On the film front, I got a rejection letter from Hamburg, bringing my total rejections to 3... possibly 4 since I have not heard from Montreal, and it seems everyone got their acceptance e-mails a few days ago. (Although there is a distinct possibility I may have accidentally deleted it. You never know with me...) At any rate, it seems congratulations are in order for Trent, Shane and Joe at the very least (and at least one second year team, Kellen, Liz and Sean). I am very happy I crewed 2 of the 3 films. :) Party hard in Montreal, boys and girls! Went to a College League baseball game this weekend and discovered the local team is the definition of suck. Wow, they were terrible. We left at the end of the seventh inning (Columbus was up 11-2 and had gotten those 11 runs in 11 hits), but that was partially due to stale peanuts as much as it was due to crap baseball. On the other hand, it looks like my brother and I may score tickets to the MLS All-Star Game being held in Columbus next weekend, and even if we don't get those, it looks like Dad'll get us tickets to a US v. Mexico Men's World Cup Qualifier in September. This weekend, my parents have gone to Cleveland to see the Mariners play the Indians. Lucky. I still haven't seen a live Mariners game since the before the Kingdome got torn down. No news on the job front yet... I'll probably drop off another wave of resumes at video and bookstores this weekend. Current Mood: excited | | Sunday, July 17th, 2005 | | 8:48 pm |
Well, the most exciting thing that happened this week was that I accidentally blew up a vacuum cleaner. There I was, just trying to be a good daughter and vacuuming the stairs, when suddenly flames shot out the back and pieces of plastic exploded off the front! I didn't even know vacuum cleaners could do that. Apparently, they can if the bag is a bit too full. Goodness! So, the moral of the story is CHANGE YOUR VACUUM BAGS FREQUENTLY. ...and also that an exploding vacuum can throw pieces of itself a good 5 yards down the hall! Impressive! So, yeah. Now we need a new vacuum cleaner. Oops. Anyway, after the Exploding Vacuum Incident, there was, of course, the arrival of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which I (after stealing it away from my mother) finished at 1 am last night. It was pretty good. The last few chapters were excellent, but I found my attention wandering for the first 500 pages, and I didn't like it as much as Goblet of Fire, or even Order of the Phoenix which was long and meandering, but at least had a really good villian (Damn you, Umbridge!). Other events this week included my paternal grandparents coming to visit for the weekend (which means homemade ice cream and lots of card games) and Name That Tune Night (Tuesday) at Buffalo Wild Wings (or as the locals call it, B-dub's) and realizing that I am the only person in Ohio that does not smoke. *cough* The Name That Tune game was designed poorly, ensuring minimum actual naming of tunes (probably maximizing beer ordering time). We won 3rd place (8 beer bucks! Woot!) but our prize winnings were given (by my brother) to two girls to get shots for themselves rather than towards getting our table a plate of nachos (Boo!) so I left the bar and went down the street to the Burrito Buggy and got myself a pretty decent burrito. Needless to say I will not be going back to Name that Tune night or even Kareoke Night (which is on Wednesdays). Have also discovered that the locals find it neccisary to drink themselves into oblivion at the bar every night of the week. We've had a couple of thunderstorms this week, and lots of rain and thanks to the stupid hurricane the humidity is incredibly high. Yay. I may try to make my brother take me to see Willy Wonka tonight, although I fear Oompa-Loompa related nightmares. Current Mood: bored | | Saturday, July 9th, 2005 | | 12:57 am |
Hey! It DIDN'T Fantasti-suck! So, just got back from Fantastic Four and it was actually rather enjoyable. I was just waiting for it to suck eggs, but I really kind of liked it... ... apart from Jessica Alba who really just can't act. Sue Storm would be scandalized by how low her costume was zipped. Also, Sue Storm would be insulted by how stupid she seemed. Plus, Alba does this really irritiating head/neck acting thing which I think she thinks makes her look tough. I think it makes her look like she needs a chiropractor... and also an acting coach. She's just really bad. Current Mood: amused | | Friday, July 8th, 2005 | | 6:02 pm |
This week in Ohio... So, today I accomplished things like getting a library card (to the smallest library I've ever seen), opening a bank account, signing onto the Ohio University Staff gym (yes, there is a gym just for staff and their families), and mocking the multimedia capabilities of the PC in my dad's office. I also changed my contact info with all the film festivals I've entered and 'Lost'... and 'Lost' didn't sound very eager to hear from me. Oh well.
Went to the film department here. They won't let me take classes without being accepted as a masters student (and I can't be accepted until Fall, 2006) but I did get some info about local volunteer film work. A OU professor is making a feature film adaptation of Winesburg, Ohio, so I e-mailed her. And I'll be posting a sign in the film department volunteering for crew work. Also discovered craigslist, and found a few crew postings for things in the local area... but that'll have to wait until I get my license.
Still no word from United Airlines about my lost bag. Most of my clothes are in that bag, so I'm doing laundry rather frequently here. Fortunately all the important, irreplacable stuff was in the bag that turned up the other night. The clothes can be replaced.
Tonight, I will probably go see Fantastic Four with my little brother, which will no doubt Fantasti-suck, but I feel the need to show my support for Ioan Gruffudd... It's not his fault he was horiffically mis-cast.

First Post Okay, here's my first post. It's pretty much the same thing that I sent most of you in an e-mail an hour or so ago, but I figured I oughta start out with the basics, and then I'll get into more detail later when I make my later posts. Yes, the blog name is dumb, but all the good names were taken. :D Just a quick note to let you know I'm alive and in Ohio... with half of my luggage. I had two cancelled flights, a few really delayed ones, and one that was overbooked. I arrived in Ohio *only* 14 hours later than expected, and with none of my checked luggage, which appeared to have never left Seattle. Still, I did get a really nice 5 hour stay in the beautiful Chicago Airport Hilton (wish I could have enjoyed it a bit more, 'cause it was REALLY nice), a complimentary bag of really nice toiletries, $14 to spend on food at the airport and a free round trip ticket anywhere in the contiguous 48 states. Also, I'm getting a check for $50 to pay for some emergency clothes, as one bag was finally located last night at midnight, but the other is still hiding somewhere and that's the one that has all my clothes in it. Anyway, haven't done much here in Ohio yet. Slept from 4 pm to 9 am the first day I was here. Got some job applications for the local video stores yesterday. Today and tomorrow I'm hoping to sign on at the school gym, and talk to the Film department about a Master's degree, taking a class in AVID, or maybe just snagging a tech job that pays better than a video store clerk (as the minimum wage here is very, very low). Next week I'm going to start up applying to festivals again, as well as sending a resume to every production company in the world, because I have got to get out of Ohio.
