4/30/08 11:23 pm - back in pdx

three weeks in new york was an effing whirlwind. that place is way too intense for me but i had the best time seeing all the amazing, talented, and fun people i know there. i had a lot of super good hang out sessions with friends. it was an ass kicking, but left me inspired and challenged to work harder.
the thing at rocketship was totally packed and an all around spectacular experience. thanks to alex and mary for having such a good store and making me feel so at home there in brooklyn. and thanks to everyone for coming out for that. i think a couple of my original covers for omega might still be up there.
this is a picture from pub weekly of the omega crew at the event.
pwpic
thanks tojim campbell for letting me use his computer and the deep six crew for letting me use their studio. also while i was visiting, jim's band, paper fleet played a great show atcake shop. i heard there is some article on them in time out new york this week.
i also had fantastic time up in vermont visiting the center for cartoon studies. everyone was really nice, and the town was very pleasant. i liked all the stuff i saw coming out of that school.
right after i got back to portland i hit thestumptown show
and got to see even more excellent comic book people. i only had my one advance copy of the new meathaus for the show. a bunch of people looked at it and the response was good. i haven't read all the stories yet but it really is an exceptional looking book.
i was so pooped on sunday i passed out at ten and missed the closing party for the magic show at pony club.
here is the piece i had in the show.
title or description now i need to crawl back in my cave and get back to work on the wrenchies.
dino pointed out that i should try using the lj cut. so okay then, there is another drawing i did recently behind the cut. )

the whole creative on the book will be there. please come and bring lots of friends. i have been working on this book for a long time now and am finally on the last issue. it has been such a fun project. i think i am going to miss those characters a bit. snif.

i don't really look at reviews so much but i think the omega book is being well received. i was sent this review recently.
i meant to post this a while ago but i am a flake. so in case anyone cares i was on my buddy conch's local comic book radio show, words and pictures.. you can download the audio file if you are so inclined. you can actually hear my real voice pretending to sound like i know what i am talking about. speaking of shooting my mouth off., while i am in nyc i will be on Comic Book Club - Live Comic Book Talk Show in NYC Tuesday, April 8 @ 8:00pm at the Peoples Improv Theater. Tickets are just $5!
there is also free podcast of the show available too on your eye toonez.
i have a piece in a show here in town with james jean, jeff soto and some other awesome dudes at grass hut news. if you are in town head over and check it out. i didn't get a chance to scan the painting. i will post it when the show is over.
speaking of shows, the stumptown comics thing is coming up at the end of april. tables are sold out for the show so i don't know if i will have my own spot but i will be back in portland and at that show somewhere. i might sit at someone else's table. now here is a bunch of random little things inlcuding a cd cover i did for my little siter's band, efft.

i know it has been a long-ass time since i put something up here. i have been enjoying the internet less and less these days. but i have to tell everyone that omega the unknown #1 is finally hitting the street in october!!! look for it in this month's (august for oct 2007 shipping) marvel previews. page 49, 50, and 51. i am pretty excited about this.
i also saw it on this page

there is also an interview with the writer Jonathan Lethemhere.

i had fun a few days ago being interviewed on the inkstuds.com radio show. Listen and have a good time making fun of what a douche i'm sure i sound like.
i will be up in vancouver for the Comix and Stories convention on August 26th at Heritage hall (3102 Main st. 11am - 6pm).

on november first (first thursday to portlanders) i will be having a show at floating world comics.. More on that later, but look who will be there next month.
al
right now there are a few shows in town by friends of mine that you should check out at the pony club,
sequential art gallery,
and floating world comics.
they are over by the first thursday of next month so look while the looking is good. and now i am leaving you with a couple drawings from a future project i am working on. i am still working on pop gun war too but this is a sci fi project down the road.

hey i made this guy:
yule
a few people and retailers have emailed me asking about pop gun war being out of print. well it is fully back in print now so please tell your local comic store and or book store to order some (or a lot). the diamond STAR # is: 18889
and speaking of books in print, my buddies at the new radio have a cool comic out now called poison the cure.
i love this book. it is some pretty radical science fiction stuff. me and a couple other dudes i draw with on thursday nights all did pin ups. here is mine of the character locito:
locito
two of the guys that did pin ups are leaving funny comics on my myspace comments of me dying in various gruesome ways.

kc
another new bad ass sci fi comic book out now is brandon graham's
king city from tokoyo pop.
i have read most of this book as brandon was working on it but still haven't got my hands on a printed copy of it. i can't wait.
there is a little something about it on the meathaus site. a site always worth checking out.

this weekend i will be up in seattle and will probably stop in at the emerald city comic con for maybe an hour or so. no table for me though just visitng.

the exceptional writer i am doing the omega the unknown book for marvel with is going to be here in portland:
Jonathan Lethem, April 12, 2007, Portland Arts & Lectures at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 7:30 p.m.
he is currently on a book tour and might be in your town soon. go here for locations and dates

and more stuff for local portlanders, this upcoming first thursday there will be a comics show at city hall
Thursday Apr 05, 2007
at 7:00 PM AT City Hall
1221 SW 4th Ave
Portland, OR 97204
Portland Comics, Pizza, beer

also on first thursday there is some cool stuff going on here:
KITCHEN SINK: Step Into My Office
First Thursday, April 5th, 7-11pm
520 NW Davis Street, 2nd Floor
($2-5 Sliding Donation)
Food and drinks by Half and Half.
Bring an article of clothing for patchwork and silkscreen alterations.
Karaoke afterparty at Someday Lounge, 125 NW 5th Ave, beginning 11 p.m.

then i heard a rumor that on april 9th there will be a showing of night watch and Day watch at valentines. i haven't seen either one of these movies so i am pretty excited about going.

and for portland comics events don't forget to check out http://comixlist.com/

2/18/07 05:49 pm - Hardcore Pops Are Fun

Gabrielle Bell, (Lucky), Kevin Huizenga (Curses), and Anders Nilsen (Don’t Go Where I Can’t Follow) presented a slide show and signing at reading frenzy last thursday. i picked up curses finally and anders new book. i haven't had a chance to read either one of them but i am sure they will be rad.
there are like about 50,000 cartoonists living here in portland. Greg Beans, Nate Beaty, Steve Lafler, Sarah Oleksyk, and Jesse Reklaw got the good idea to start an events page for all the comics stuff going on here.
This is some info from that website: "Comixlist is an attempt to build a more cohesive comics community in Portland, Oregon. The site, comixlist.com, serves as a calendar of comics-related events and get-togethers, and is open to public submissions and discussion. The list, comix@lists.clixel.com, serves as a more loose and open forum for smaller events, gatherings, and anything random we choose to subject each other too."

omega and more pop gun war coming soon hopefully. i hope to have them both done by next fall. after that i will be working on a new big project. the wonderful people at Baker's Mark Literary Agency will be representing me on that project.

i am not doing any more commissions for a while but here are the last few commissions i did.

spx was radical as expected. i had one of the best times ever at a show. lots of awesome dudes to hang out with. we sold out of the copies of meathaus 8: headgames we had on hand. many thanks go to mr. jeff mason for helping that book get out for the show. we will have plenty more available this weekend at the stumptown comics fest
i will have a table at that hanging out with zachary baldus (flagg), and brandon graham. it should be a pretty swell time. the dudes at top shelf and oni are hosting a party on Saturday, October 28th. at the VooDoo Lounge. there is also a good looking animation fest called cartoon cavalcade a buddy of mine is helping organize. it is on the same night directly following the stumptown show. you got your whole day and night cut out for you. see you there.

i will be at spx in bathesda, maryland this weekend. as well as the stumptown show here in portland in two weeks.

the exciting part is that meathaus 8: headgames will be available for sale both shows. i did a lot of work on the book, including 14 pages of story.

and
you guys might not believe me at this point but meathaus 8: headgames is currently re-offered in the August Previews for October shipping.
meathaus 8 has an item code of: AUG062932
i am going to spx and will be at the portland show stumptown comics fest, both in october. if all goes well i will be selling meathaus8: headgames at both those shows. i did a lot of work on the book, designed the entire thing, and have about 20 pages of my own artwork in it, 14 of those being the last story in the book.
be sure to keep checking out the meathaus website for updates and random fun.
