Counting down! Less than a week away! [Sep. 23rd, 2006|12:29 am]
[Current Location |home]
[mood | excited]
[music |nil]

Greetings all,

Well we're down to the last loop of everything. I'm finishing badges and ironing out last minute program glitches, publicising any chance I get, and looking forward to the event day by day!

Most of you whom are on panels as part of the program will have received an email with your schedule - if you haven't received yours yet, never fear, its on its way :)

The tickets for the Guest of Honour dinner at Fuché restaurant on Thursday September 28th have been selling well - there are still spaces left if you are interested, I promise stupendous food and unbeatable company :)

I also have to announce that Crumpler Bags Perth have been very generous in sponsoring the convention! Check out their rather cool, and unique website: www.crumpler.com.au! I think their stuff is fantastic, and they're obviously a heart and soul business, they believe in word of mouth business - its worked very well for them, and thus does it speak well of their product.

Enough pimpage, if you would like to volunteer to help out for an hour here and there please let me know - I'm not making any formal list or roster, but I will note who has offered to help here and there - every little bit counts, and helps out and is appreciated, it makes much less work for just a couple of people - more fun for everyone at the con!

Please contact me if you have any questions or queries about the event - its really shaping up to be just as good as last year - I hope! I'm contactable on email: transcendancing@gmail.com or my mobile: 0439354992.

Fandomedia - 2 weeks away! Wow!! [Sep. 18th, 2006|09:59 am]
[Current Location |work]
[mood | ecstatic]
[music |"I'll bet he was cool" - Darren Hayes]

Wow - 2 weeks away!!! I can scarcely believe it!! I'm so excited and cannot wait - everything is falling nicely into place, and is staying organised (just the way I like it), but now, some information!

If you've bought a membership can you please comment or email me (transcendancing@gmail.com) with your preferred Name Badge name, so I can pre make it before the convention? I need this by COB Wednesday, otherwise it will be the name on your reciept.

If you haven't yet bought a membership, but think I should pre-make a badge for you too - comment or email :) Anything is possible ;)

Day membership prices have been finalised:

Friday night only: $20
Saturday or Sunday: $35

There are still places available at the Guest of Honour dinner on Thursday 28th of September, about 10 (ish) at this stage.

If you would like to book (and/or pay for) your space at the dinner, please email or comment :) It's shaping up to be a fabulous night, excellent company and superb food.

Lastly, I've had a few people ask about Hucksters tables, these are available for $10 per day on the Saturday and Sunday - again, email or comment if you're interested.

Emails to panellists about the things you're speaking on will be going out over the next couple of days.

More information is available on the website thanks to [info]lizbyrd: http://fandomedia.org

Fandomedia Panellists [Aug. 9th, 2006|11:10 am]
[Current Location |work]
[mood | productive]
[music |'Insatiable' - Darren Hayes]

Greetings all,

I am presently looking for interest from those whom would be able to and willing to speak/present/discuss/workshop the following things.

If you're interested in the idea, let me know and I'll give you more information on the premise, at which point I'll also welcome any suggestions to polish and refine the panel.

The panels in question:

Mystical Space - how our view of and exploration of space has become mystical in nature
Searching for the 'One' - true love, its existance, the search
Ambition - climbing to the top, how, sacrifice - who/what
Wanderlust - what is the attraction?
Hunger for Truth - our desire to know the truth of things, how much is hidden - why?
Phat Phantasy Trilogies - the ones we hate to love, the ones we love to hate
Empowering Hunger - what do you hunger for, does creation require hunger to be successful?

I'm also looking for a specific panel premise on 'Food' and 'Addictions'.

There are still some gaps in the program, so if people have ideas please feel free to pass them along now.

Once I've taken people's interest, and emailed other prospective panellists, I'll send out the draft program.

[music |'Fields of Gold' - Eva Cassidy]

Greetings all,

If anyone has any photos from last year's event - can you please let me know by email?

I've specifically had a request from someone wanting a picture of Mel with her blue hair.

But in general I'd love to have a more comprehensive collection of photographic memories from the event :)

Programming Meeting: Sunday July 16th [Jul. 6th, 2006|05:05 pm]
[Current Location |work]
[mood | productive]
[music |nil]

Greetings all,

I am holding an open programming meeting on Sunday July 16th.

Location: The Moon Cafe (William St, Northbridge)
Time: 12pm onwards

Ideas welcome, especially welcome people wishing to run said ideas.

I'm still aiming to focus on having people whom don't usually run things doing so, those whom are under used, those whom are always used in a single capacity and really do have more rounded personalities than a single interest they can spent 20 - 45 mins talking about.

The focus is Hunger. In all forms - the more the better, the more twisted and obscure the better. I aim for the sensation it projects its that fascinating slide, just this side of uncomfortable, something a little bit subversive and pervasive.

Wow.... I'm still alive. [Apr. 4th, 2006|05:03 pm]
[mood | bouncy]
[music |K's random RnB playlist]

Which is to say that I've finally recovered from [info]swancon related organisation. I'm starting to get things moving for Fandomedia again, and starting to think about the program. By all means comment or email suggestions/requests to me that you'd like to see included. I'll likely run an open programming meeting sometime around June/July.

News!!! I have news!!! The wonderful former webmistress for this years Swancon [info]lizbyrd is working on a website for Fandomedia!! Add the link to your bookmarks: http://fandomedia.org and be assured that there will be much more content to come soon.

In other news, my local guest Lyn Battersby won a Tin Duck award for her 2005 story 'The Memory of Breathing' published by ASIM, which was actually the reason I invited her to be one of my guests of honour. My lovely fan guest of honour, Elaine Kemp has also recently received acceptance for her first professionally published short story! Not only this but she also won the short story competition for Swancon this year.

There is much much more going on presently - no doubt more updates to come, and hopefully, more frequently!

As always memberships are available from me directly, and also now from Fantastic Planet in Shafto Lane. Email or comment if you're interested. Current membership total is just over 30 - about half the attendance of last year's already :)

[mood | bouncy]
[music |Black Eyed Peas "Shut up"]

After all is said and done, Fandomedia 2005 returned a $672 surplus.

I also now have receipt books so i can finalise the special con memberships when i next see those whom already indicated to me in that direction.

I am also currently finalising my budget for Fandomedia 2006 so i can be sure of the regular price so that i can start selling at Genghiscon :)

I should also have news of website stuff up and coming courtesy of [info]lizbyrd sometime soon.

In related news... i now need a new icon.

Advance memberships for 2006: Hunger [Dec. 19th, 2005|11:28 am]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |Savage GArden - remix]

Well i've confirmed with the WASFF treasurer that he does indeed have the receipt book that i need in order to take money from those whom wanted to take advantage of the special rate offered to those whom attended Fandomedia 2005.

Basically if you've indicated to me that you wanted to take advantage of it, i've made a note of it, and as soon as i see you after getting a hold the receipt book can organise that for you despite the time frame.

Other than that I should have confirmed membership prices that aren't the special rate within a week or two, once i have a moment to meet with the treasurer.

Thank you to everyone whom has started sending suggestions for media and discussions/workshops and panels. I've also had someone mention to me in passing that there was a group interested in doing a rather funky launch from the con - so i'm rather excited to get some more details from them.

Please feel free to comment/email me about things you want to see for 'Hunger' i truly want it to be a sensory experience that challenges and discomforts even as it welcomes and embraces.

Email: transcendancing@gmail.com

Also, [info]lizbyrd has kindly offered to organise a website for me, so that I can have a slightly more 'official' base to use in conjunction with the LJ. So many thanks to her!!

Letter of Thanks from Chuck McKenzie: [Nov. 24th, 2005|05:57 pm]
[mood | pleased and blushing]
[music |silence]

Okay here it is as promised - i've not changed anything, just directly cut and pasted... blushing as i do so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Ju,
May I take this opportunity to rave (once again) about Fandomedia 2005? May I?
I just wanted to let you know that I had absolutely *the* best time, and would go so far as to say it may well be the best-run convention - and certainly the most enjoyable - I've *ever* been to. From the moment I arrived in Perth, I was treated like one of the family by everyone I met. Nothing was a hassle, nothing was a fuss, and - it seemed - nothing was too good for the Guest of Honour! You and your extended band of faithful minions made my stay absolutely perfect, and I thank you and them sincerely for your warmth and generosity.
The atmosphere at the con itself was fantastic - everyone bright and happy, with attendees entertained as much by the programming as by the rabble-rousing in the hotel bar afterwards - and I lay the blame for this fully at your feet; where many con organisers play the role of Timekeeper or Adminstrator, you were very much the Host, mingling with the crowd in order to ensure that everyone - guests and attendees alike - were happy and comfortable at all times. It's a role you play perfectly, and it really 'made' the con.
Only after the convention had drawn to a close was I made aware that - despite things having appeared to flow without a single hitch -there were in fact some problems occurring behind the scenes. However, again like a good Host, you were obviously able to deal with these issues professionally, without bringing them to the notice of the con crowd, and thus not negatively affecting the atmosphere.
Honestly, I would happily go on in a similar vein for many, many pages, but for the fact that it might begin to sound as though I'm laying it on with a trowel. Therefore, I'll conclude now with the greatest single compliment I feel I can give you and Fandomedia - that in attending, I met new friends (including yourself) whom I hope to keep for the rest of my life, and that I will definitely be doing my damndest to make it back to Perth again - budget permitting! - to see them all again, con or no con.
Once again, thank you so, so much for having me, and I can't wait to see you all again. I can't imagine how you could possibly make Fandomedia 2006 any better than F05 - but knowing you, you will!
Love, hugs and kisses,
Chuck McKenzie
(I should have some appropriate words for here... but i'm kind of lost for words right now) [Nov. 22nd, 2005|12:05 am]
[mood | it just doesn't get better...]
[music |kitty miaowing]
Wow....
It happened.... Fandomedia 2005 was a success... measures of success for me were, less about break even and more about new people turning up to the convention for the first time ever. People whom usually avoid conventions turning up and telling me how much they enjoyed themselves, how much they laughed. Having the venue staff join in the games after finishing work. Having the venue staff give me a -really- late check out because i hadn't had much sleep all weekend. Having the -entire- con attendees for Sunday singing happy birthday to me *cries*
I'm all a bit emotional.... 12 months of my hope and determination went into Fandomedia 2005. Time spent hoping I could achieve what i set out to do. Time spent working towards it all coming together as I'd planned.
Truth be told... it really did... but the atmosphere was beyond anything i'd hoped for, truly amazing. I laughed till i cried so many times it wasn't funny - my guests ROCKED!!! i LOVE you all so much!!! Thank you to various partner people whom let me borrow their beloved's for a weekend :)
Fandomedia 2005: Comedy, was spent in laughter... 65 people became members and the convention made a small surplus. Fandomedia 2006: Hunger was launched and well received!! For those whom are interested I am keeping hold of the promotional membership price until November 30 2005, you'll need to tell me the quote on your badge as the price is only open to con-goer's from this year :)
So now after months of enforced silence (which has been KILLING me.....) I can now announce:
Fandomedia 2006: Hunger
"Starving for morsels of media, what do you crave?"
Guest of Honour: Marianne De Pierres (author of the Parrish Plessis series set in post apocolyptic australia - check out the first book Nylon Angel at [info]planetfantastic
Local Guest of Honour: Lyn Battersby (winner of Tin Duck for "Memory of Breathing" and editor of ASIM Issue 11)
Fan Guest of Honour: Elaine Kemp (long standing member of the fan community, convenor of Swancon 30, nanowrimo-maniac, art show coordinator... the list truly does go on)
My darling f-list, I'm not kidding nor exaggerating when i tell you: I HAVE THE PERFECT GUESTS for HUNGER.
I have so much more to say... but initially there's not much more to tell.
Many thanks first and foremost to [info]kae_dash my beloved whom supported me all the way through...
To [info]utopos and [info]akire_yta for taking the dirty work off my hands and just... making things happen :) Like media, quotes and lunch :)
To [info]maharetr, [info]ascetic_hedony and [info]buoy_wonder for salving my sanity throughout the weekend, plying me with cuddles, alcohol or space any time i needed it...
To my guests for being amazing!
To [info]_fustian and [info]strangedave for wrangling and pushing the line for me... making my voice be heard.
To [info]dalek_boy, [info]the_angriest, Simon O., [info]cheshirenoir, [info]generalissimo_k, [info]illiadic for letting me bounce ideas, possibilities and suggestions to you so much.
More about what the con was like for me, and what I got up to, next post...
Mmmmmmful dreams...
