Two weeks isn't long enough for a decent holiday, though I have to admit that I feel as though I have been away much longer. The last two days before coming home on saturday were spent trying to fit in as many places as we could, there is still so much to see and do. ( And Now The End is Near ) ps the daughter managed to pass her GCSE English exam which we are really pleased about.

Well after most of last week being sunny and warm the clouds fell out of the sky and leaked all over the place. Yep mother nature brought back the rain. :) Actually the clouds brushing the forest on the hillside make the mountainside look like it's steaming or on fire, it's quite surreal. ( More Holiday )

Well almost...... distressedI woke up on thursday morning to find a burglar in my house. I chased him out and he didn't get anything thankfully, he even apologised as he went out the window. I can't figure out why he tried to get into my house it was 5 am and light out, the milkman had just been, 10 minutes before I saw him I'd been in the kitchen feeding the cat, the lights were on and so was the telly but still he came in. He was as suprised to see me sitting on the sofa as I was to see him. The police were here very quickly, I was suprised that they were even interested to be honest as he didn't take anything but they came and took statements and disscussed victims support and how to make my home safer. I haven't updated much in the last month as things have been really hectic. The weather has been disgustingly hot and humid, nasty, roll on december!!!!! We had a big storm the other night I wanted to hide under the table with the cat but I tried to be brave for my daughter, she isn't frightened but gets upset when I am, so quivering with fear I sat on the sofa and smiled (through gritted teeth) and tried to make small talk with the rest of the family all the while inside I was jumping about with ever rumble of thunder. I am ashamed to say that I wanted to go to the loo but I wouldn't go on my own...... :( worriedHugo's Music: Dr Who Theme ( New Job )

( Prince of Denmark ) amusedThe picture isn't very good as it came from a newspaper, I didn't realise that it would be in modern dress but the pictures I have seen show him in a suit and also in an anorak and woolly hat (Alas poor Yorik......). My daughter would like to see it but I'm not a fan of Shakespears, I had to learn the 'Is this a dagger I see before me, its handle toward my hand....' speech for my english literature exam more than 30 years ago that and the 'Out dammned spot....' bit from Lady Macbeth rather put me off his works. (I also had to suffer two years of Romeo and Juliet while my daughter studied it). Anyway I hope that he does a good job, sometimes actors are judged by how how well they do it or not.... The picture is a bit big and he does look like that's a sonic screwdriver in his hand. :)

What a weekend.... exhaustedDr Who came to a climax on saturday that answered most questions and left a few clues to possible future things, now we have to wait until christmas for the special and the Cybermen. Next to the Daleks they are the Drs most persistant enemies. ( Dr Who ) And then I spent most of sunday watch Nadel and Federa try to beat each other at the climax of the Wimbledon fortnight. The match started at 2.30pm and lasted until almost 9.30pm. There were two rain delays but it still meant that they were on court for over four and a half hours. I was exhausted just watching them!!! I think in the end the best man won. They have played against each other 17 times before today, Nadel won 11 of them but on grass Federa had always been the winner. Todays match was almost a re-run of last years final, Nadel won two sets, Federa won two sets on tie breaks and then they played the fifth set and Federa won. Today the same thig happened, Nadel won two, Federa almost lost the next one but managed to cling on by the skin of his teeth during the tie break and also with the fourth. The tennis was very good, but I have to say that Federa didn't seem to be on top form, he kept making silly mistakes and Nadel took full advantage of them. ( Wimbledon ) And thank you to whoever does the logos that are permanantly on our screens (do I really need to be reminded which channel I'm watching) for ruining the dr who episode with the logo in bright yellow that said 'sport home' in it. I must be pretty senile if I can't manage to remember what channel I'm watching, after all I might have chosen the wrong one........ As for the sport logo in the dr who episode, if I had chosen to watch dr who why would I want to watch the sport? Ah well end of rant and moans. Things to look forward to...my summer holiday in 6 weeks time, the Royal International Air Tattoo next weekend and two weekends after that the Festival of the sea in Portsmouth. Tomorrow or is that today a lecture on Particle Physics and the large Hadron Collider. :) I know strange person me...

I know prices are going up and up but this is rediculous. A woman recently got a bill from her electricity company for £90 MILLION. The article in the newspaper said that if you take the tariff for one unit of electricity as 13p then the bill she received is the equivilant of leaving the lights on in her house continuously for 1,900 years. It amounts to around 700 million units. amused700 million units would Light up Blackpool's illumination for 700 years. Run ALL the fridges in the United States for more than 5 years. Reheat 3.5 billion microwave meals. And would boil 10 billion pints of water! (that's alot of cups of tea) Needless to say the power company apologised for their mistake and cancelled the bill.

Well here goes my first attempt at using the laptop. The kid is using the main computer for some work that needs a programme that isn't loaded on here. It's suprising how different it feels, the buttons are completely flat and need to be pressed harder than the other computer. artisticSometime later...... that's better the kids gone to bed and now I'm back on the 'big pc' my hands ache at the best of times but just typing a few lines was really uncomfortable, she says it's because I'm not used to it and I guess she is right to a certain extent, playing the piano makes them hurt too old age I guess.....:) I thought I would upload a few random pictures that I thought came out really well. I'm still in the dark ages using a proper camera with real film. The first three pictures were taken at Wakehurst place in Sussex last october. I was really pleased with the brightness of the colours that came out even though it was quite a dull day. ( Trees ) This one was taken in the woods just a couple of miles from home, there were millions of bluebells all over the place but this was the best view. ( Bluebells ) The next two are of a bumble bee on my apple blossom. I watched this bee visiting the flowers for about 20 minutes in all. He (she?) was the biggest bumble bee I have ever seen. You can see how big it was in relation to the flowers. ( Bumble Bee ) Bake to Wakehurst place for the next two pictures. I really liked the effect of the bark on this cherry tree. ( Cherry Tree ) This next one I called 'Hairy Tree' because the way the ends of the branches were growing looked like unruly hair to me, the kid says it looks like a firework, I have no idea what tree it is actually. ( Hairy Tree ) I really should have sorted these better back to my aplle trees for the last two. Not only was there a monster bumble bee in the flowers but a couple of other varieties too, plus a few honey bees, watching them put the pollen into those little pockets on thier legs was fascinating, I was amazed that once they were fully packed that the could still fly, clever bees to compenate for all that extra weight they carrying. ( Honey Bee ) The smell from the apple blossom was delightful, this was taken early afternoon while the sun was still on it, the blossom in the picture is a mixture of Russet and a Cooking apple though bothe blossoms looked the same. I now have to go out and thin out the little clusters of babay apples to make sure that the crop that comes is a reasonable size. ( Apple Blossom )

Hubby says I have an overactive imagination, he's just walked away from me shaking his head, lol I think he thinks I'm a lost cause! The reason for his opinion is that we were looking at the pictures of various nebula and I said that the Eagle nebula makes me feel as though I'm in a hole and there is some being with a staff looking down on me. amusedHugo's Music: Apollo 440 Stop the Rock ( Are You Looking At Me? ) In other news the sprog got a special award yesterday at the dance schools demonstration dance for charity. She was given a certificate for being the 'most improved senior student'. She was very suprised to get it and very happy to. The dance show was for mothers day and she and the other girls danced their socks off. Unlike the cometitions where there was lots of time (mostly) to change between dances yesterday there wasn't and it seemed that every other dance had her in it, no wonder she lost 7lbs since christmas. She won't make up that weight until the school has its summer holiday, lol just in time to loose it again in september, wringing wet she weighs around 112 lb, at 5ft 6+ she really could do with a bit more weight on her but she seems to be healthy enough, she walks 2 miles home everyday from college (she could easily get the bus and be home in half the time) and was showing off that she can sit on the floor and bend down to touch her nose to her knees! I wish I could do that but sadly I was never that fit. A belated happy mothers day to everyone, I had a busy day because of the dance demo but other than that it was good. Also happy St David's Day for saturday. I used to get my eyebrows and face sugared on a regular basis but the lady who used to do it for me has re married and moved away so I have been walking around with shaggy eyebrows for a while now, one of the ladies I work with has been going to an Indian lady in one of the shops nearby to have hers done so I thought I'd give it a try. I wasn't sure how she was going to do it but I was very suprised when she pulled out of her pocket some cotton thread. She made me sit down and lean back and then she held a piece of the cotton in her mouth and somehow created a loop with her hand and then put a twist on it, I watched as she did my friends after positioning the thread the twist pulls the heair out, not completely painless but alot less than I thought. It took around three minutes for her to do bot eyes and I'm very pleased with the results, she says it will last for a month before they will need doing again, we shall see. I don't normally help the sprog with her homework as she seems to be quite happy to do it herself but this week end she had loads so I typed up a piece of work that she had to add more to. I was very pleased and suprised to see some of the comments the teacher had put on the work. Last year she was studying the same book (Romeo and Juliet) and found it very difficult to get to grips with and when she had to add more to the work before finally handing it in it was very hard going. At college the work is set, they do it and hand it in, the teacher marks it and hands it back and then they do the corrections and give it in as a final piece. I was pleased to see that not only had she done quite alot of work and what she had written was done very well. She has grown academically a great deal since september and her confidence has improved dramatically. Her teachers at parents evening last week said that she was doing very well in all her subjects which I was really glad to hear as I always worry that she isn't coping very well and not telling me if she needs some help. It seems that for the moment my worries are unfounded. And just because this is pretty here is a picture of the rose nebula. ( Rosette Nebula )

This has to be my favourite nebula of all. It looks like some surreal lanscape, something a fantasy artist might create, but the colours are caused by the stars emmitting energy that excites the gases and dust around it. Different ones glow with different colours, hydrogen glows red for instance. Originally there was a star at the centre of the nebula (before it existed) which exploded throwing out gas and matter, the nebula is what is left. The star will have collapsed and formed either a white dwarf or a brown dwarf. This picture doesn't really do it justice, to appreciate it's beauty it needs to be really big. thoughtful( Eagle Nebula )
