GBP!!

Wishing my fabulous friend [info]rikki_oko , an equally fabulous birthday! How is she fabulous? Let me count the ways...She's generous, thoughtful, and considerate. She's a dedicated, and loving wife, and mom. She's so funny, she can make you snort, along with being pretty enough to turn heads. She's also an amazingly talented writer, and somehow none of this goes to her head!! Thanks for brightening my life! Love you girl!

P.S. I sent you a little something to commemorate your special day. Check with your hubby. :)

Icons - Election & Political

30 Election & Political themed icons. Enjoy, and for heaven's sake play nice! :)

** Please note, I do not vote solely along party lines. I am a fairly middle of the road girl, who leans to the right. Yes, I voted for Bush. No, I didn't trip and accidentally hit his switch at the poll. I pushed it, on purpose. No I'm not an ignorant bible thumper. Yes, I am a Christian who prefers to read her bible as opposed to thumping it. Yes, I made icons for both sides, because I try to be fair. No, I don't enjoy debate, and any attempt to use this post, or any other post in my journal, as a platform for such would be a mistake. I will only be annoyed. Also understand, rudeness will not be tolerated. Any other thoughts I have on this subject can be found here. Thank you.

Dragon*Con 2008: Arrival
Arrival:

We made it safe and sound to Atlanta! Our flight was pleasant, and amusing. Pleasant because the weather was gorgeous, and everything went smoothly. It was amusing because across the ailse, there was this guy sitting by the window. He looked innocent enough, but as we all know, looks can be deceiving. As soon as people were getting seated, he begain talking to the hapless man trapped sitting next to him. It was obvious that they weren't traveling together. Next to the victim, a young woman sat down. She'd only been in her seat a few moments, listening to the window man drone on to his captive, when she caught my eye and gave me a "Oh hell no" face. I promptly got tickled. I shared with [info]angstchic . We decided to see how long the man talked. Seriously. The man never. shut. up. Pre-flight. Yakety, yak, yak. In flight. Yakety, ya,k yak. Waiting to disembark. Yakety, yak ,yak.  It was insane! We thought that we would get a break when the flight attendants handed out some pretzels. We listened with rapt attention. No dice. Yakety, yak, yak. It was truly a study in the art of can't shut up. During the flight, the girl broke out her iPod & earbuds to escape. I told her that I'd have brought duct tape if I had only known. That got her tickled. I think she and the "victim" nearly ran from the plane, ears bleeding, no doubt. :P

We started walking to the baggage claim. It couldn't be far, we reasoned. *snort* We kept walking. And walking.....and walking. OMG it was freaking ridculous how far we walked! I think we must have walked clear across Atlanta. It certainly felt that way. I told [info]angstchic I should have packed a canteen and some assorted survival gear. Jeeze! Finally, we reached the baggage claim area, which was pretty much like discovering the Holy Grail at this point. The ever so lovely [info]musing_mia  was there to pick up us, and we had hug and squee fest right there.

We headed to our hotel, and once we had our stuff in the room, we went to get our badges. Holy cats! The line was wrapped completely around the building. We decided to go and eat first, and then come back to brave the line from hell. We grabbed some burgers. I got [info]angstchic tickled enough that she spit on Mia, and we went back to wage war on the badge line. Luckily, the line moved pretty quickly - better than last year - thank goodness! In an hour and a half we finally got our badges, went back to our hotel and said our good byes to Mia (she had stuff to get done for class - so couldn't stay with us tonight). We decided to chill out in our room since tomorrow is a busy day. Had lots of texts and a phone call from [info]psubrat , to coordinate meeting up tomorrow. Also, texted and called [info]rikki_oko to let her know how much we wish she was with us. *squishes her* Now we're getting ready for bed.

More fun to come later peeps! :D

Dragon*Con 2008: In Transit
Hey all, [info]angstchic and I are hanging out at the Memphis Airport waiting for our flight to Atlanta. We are enjoying the wireless connection - though not "free". I'm happy to report that the battery life on my new Dell laptop is stellar. It estimates I've got 5 hours of battery time left. Woo! That's a heck of a lot better than the 2 hours that I got on my Toshiba. \o/

We will be boarding in about 30 minutes or so, then we will be arriving in Atlanta in the 3:30 pm area. All in all we're off to a good start, except for the fact that my notorious overpacking has been officially confirmed. [info]angstchic's bag, which is the same size as mine, weighed in at 35 lbs. My bag....54.5 lbs. [info]angstchic was aghast. Even the check-in clerk looked suitably impressed ([info]angstchic said that was a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment for the clerk, but I prefer my interpretation. :P) So I paid a little fee, and me and my uber-heavy luggage were on our way. Needless to say, any souvenirs will be riding home in [info]angstchic's bag. ;)

Hey f-list! Seems like an age since I wrote out a real post. Things have been beyond hectic around Casa ETS. Seems like the days are gone in a blur anymore.

I guess I'll hit on some of the highlights to make this quicker.

- I got a new laptop. *flails* I love it so very much. I had a Toshiba that did very well for the past 5 years, but it was starting to give indications of being "tired". I really didn't know for certain what brand of laptop I wanted next, but I did know 2 things. A.) It had to be white. B.) It had to be fast. Not suprisingly, my intense determination to have my choice of color seriously narrowed the field. I was pretty much down to a Sony Vaio, or a Dell Inspiron. Both had white as a color choice, and both had workhorse specs. In the end I decided on a Artic White Dell Inspiron 1525. Also, my shiny new laptop? Not just another pretty face. I've got a Intel Core Duo 2.4 GHz processor, 4G of RAM, and a 320G harddrive!! w00t!!! I'm in laptop nirvana. :)  Of course, setting everything up, moving files, and going from XP to Vista has kept me very busy. Still, it's defintely worth it.

- Getting ready for Dragon*Con!! Yes, I've spent most of the day running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Going on a trip is always a frantic display of laundry, sorting, list making, and packing. I'm pretty much set now though. I think. Once again I've overpacked to beat the band. It's a thing.
[info]angstchic and I are making the trip and we're meeting up with [info]musing_mia who will be rooming with us again, [info]psubrat who we are going to snatch away from her celebrity guest as much as possible, and [info]ghostgirl13 who we hope to spend some time with too! We usually end up seeing even more people from LJ along the way, and that's always a good time. Yep, excited is an understatement. Plus, OMG. Firefly goodness!! Nathan Fillion (Capt. Mal Reynolds), Alan Tudyk (Wash), Jewel Staite (Kaylee), & Moreana Bacarrin (Inara) are going to be there! *flails* I'm sure we will have a great time at their Q&A panels! Plus, there's the James Marsters (Spike) at BtVS & Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto) Torchwood panels, and whoo!! Ghost Hunters (Grant Wilson & Jason Hawes) too!  I'm planning to take loads of pictures, so keep your eyes peeled for pic!spam posts & con reports.

- Last night Hubby was washing his truck, and thought he saw a leaf fall from under his bumper. The "leaf" started fluttering around, hopping, and cheeping. It was a carolina wren chick! I was in the middle of cooking dinner when he called me to see if I could help the poor little thing. I took a towel, because hubby said it had gotten fairly wet. I ended up tossing the towel over it to calm it enough to pick it up, and brought it home. Once I had it in the house it settled right down. I got a bowl, made a "nest" with a pillow case, and placed the chick inside. The cute little bird fell right to sleep, and I decided to keep it inside for the night, and release it near our carport in the morning. I figured that the parents would be nearby and looking for the chick at daybreak. I got up this morning, and the chick was sitting quietly in it's "nest". When I tried to pick it up, it fluttered out and I had a bit of a chase around the kitchen (much to the interest of the baby dogs) before I was able to catch it. Once outside, I snapped a quick photo before I set it in a flowerbed near out carport. Just as I thought, the parents were in the immediate area and began calling to the chick. A few hops and some fluttery half-flights and baby & parents were reunited! It was really sweet watching how they encouraged the chick to follow them. So another successful animal story. Yay!

So that's a bit of what's been happening in my world. Hope everyone is well.

We're heading out to Dragon*Con fairly early tomorrow, so I better get my fanny in bed. Good night flist! *hugs*
