I had a rough time at work last night.  I'm not really sure what my problem was, but I nearly lost it.  I think I'm just totally mentally exhausted.  I gave the wrong change to an honery woman (twice), then had two partners on either side of me talking at the same time, while I'm wearing a headset, so I only hear half of everything anyway...

Tuesdays are awful, anyway.  Chaos.  Sam came out and asked if I wanted an extra little break, so I took it, went into the bathroom, tried to keep myself from crying, failed, pulled it back together, and went back at it.

Maybe it's the winter.  Ugh, already.

Well...let's see what's been going on.
The house hunt is in full swing. We were close to signing our names on the line of an awesome old brick house with a beautiful yard in Shawmut village in Fairfield, but upon further inspection saw there was a pretty big flaw in the brick that could possibly damage the integrity of the structure pretty badly. And while earthquakes in Maine are rare, they certainly aren't impossible, and in such a situation the house may literally just fall apart. And we don't want that. So, with a little bit of a broken heart, but still full of optimism that we will find that perfect place, we have appointments to see four more places this Monday. Keep your fingers crossed. I know I am.

In other news, Mama and Becky went in together on a graduation slash birthday gift for me...the KITCHENAID STAND MIXER I've been wanting for a few years. I can't even tell you how excited I was. Really, I can't...I don't even know how to put it into words. :) Let's just say in the past week I've made more bread, cakes, and mashed potatoes than in the past month or so... :)

Tomorrow is Mama's 50th birthday, so I'm going up in the morning and we're going out to the Olive Garden in celebration.

And, I suppose that's it. See you in a couple more months. :)

Spring, I think, is my favorite season. Well, except for the activites that the summer brings (camping, swimming, hiking...). One thing that I DETEST about this beautiful spring, though, is allergies. Ohmyword. I haven't a clue what I'm allergic to, but there's definitely something out there rubbing me the wrong way. I've been miserable for almost two weeks now. I literally feel like my head is filled with sand and I'm carrying around a wadded up wet washcloth in my nose. Pleasant, I know.

On the sunny side of things, spring also brings May. This May, in particular. Because this May (exactly one month from today, as a matter of fact) I receive a college diploma. WHOOOOOOOT! And although it's simply an Associate's Degree of a knowledge and "mastery" of the Liberal Arts, it's MINE. And it's DONE.

I'm loving my new job as a cashier (low responsibility, moderate pace, high personability). Now I just have to go in and talk to someone today before work probably about maybe getting some more hours...I'm scheduled 12 hours this week. That's right. I have to go tell them that even if I look like a teenager, I am, in fact, not. And unlike 3/4 of the front-end workers, I am there to actually pay my bills and live. Not just to have extra money in addition to my allowance to go out to the movies on Friday nights. I'm expecting 12 hours to give me a paycheck of somewhere around 80$. That's one bill. One. Great.

We spent the night at Liz and Ed's the other day and brought some rented movies. One of them was "Happy Feet". It was pretty cute. I liked it a lot. And it definitely had a strong homosexual undertone, which I found pretty cool. And, obviously surprising. There was some pretty heavy stuff in there; however deeply burried it was. And it made me think, I really enjoy how writers of children's movies are doing that sort of thing now; embedding some grown-up mentalities into the movies; giving something for the parents to find interest in as well. The other movie we watched was "Stranger Than Fiction". I was sooo excited to see this one; I'd been waiting for it for a while. And I was not let down. I absolutely LOVED IT. I laughed out loud more than a couple times, and I even cried a little. :) It was awesome.

Anywho, I guess that's all I've got for now.
Get out and enjoy the sunshine.

1.  Sorry, especially to my lovely Mariah that I, in fact, haven't updated often, or any more really at all.  :(  What ails me, I don't know.
2.  I finally met a friend!  Whoot!  Amber (a.k.a. Skyler) is in my Philosophy of Feminism class this semester.  We had a class together last semester too, but we're both too rediculously shy to have talked to each other then.  Thankfully, we meet again.  Last Thursday was "hir" (as they say) 21st birthday, and though hir girlfriend is only 19, we took them out to The Cup for dinner and the "customary birthday drink".  A good time was had by all, and then we all came back to Waterville and watched a couple L Words.  Double whoot!  :)
3.  Friday is my last day slaving away in the bakery at the Hell store, as I was FINALLY able to get into a Waterville store!  Sunday I start work at Elm Plaza as a bagger (yaaay!  haha), and Friday I'll start training for cashier.  I'm psyched.  Even more exciting, though, I'm crossing my fingers that in a month or two I'll be one of the new Pharmacy Technicians as well.   :)  Wish me luck.
4.  Annnnd, Spring is here.  Beautiful.
5.  The End.

I couldn't believe the snow when I went outside to clean my car off for work yesterday. Becky and I went out for a Valentine's dinner and it certainly was a winter wonderland out there then, but wow! If you didn't know it was there, you wouldn't have believed there is a sidewalk in front of our house. Of course now the little sidewalk bulldozer has made its rounds (and hopefully it will again) so it's at least a thickly carpeted tunnel of snow, but yesterday morning it was just a slight divit from our snow capped yard. Oh, winter.

Last night we rented and watched "Running With Scissors". Hmm. It was interesting...I'm not quite sure how I felt about it. It's not that I didn't like it, I just don't think I'd really say I liked it a lot. From the "homocidal, unapologetic alcoholic father" and the cunning psychitrist whose office is complete with a masturbatorium to the valium-comatosed mother and the crushing ceilings...it was something. I guess I'd recommend it. But it wasn't what we were expecting. We thought it would be more dry, sarcastic humor like "About Schmidt" or "Little Miss Sunshine", but it wasn't that at all.

The newest part of our recent strive to live a more natural life has come watching a show on TLC in which nutritionists went into people's houses and told them all about some harmful preservative ingredients (most commonly high fructose corn syrup and hydorginated oils) that are just so bad for you that they are literaly banned--ILLEGAL TO USE--in Europe, parts of Canada, and most recently most New York City restaurants (especially the hydroginated oils). They then went through the homeowner's cabinets and discarded all food with such ingredients. After watching it, we couldn't resist doing the same here at home, and though we try to buy mostly "whole foods", we were pretty surprised at what we found in our cupboards that are supposed to be largely "good for you foods" containing these ingredients. We found both nasty things in pasta sauces, cereals (even so simple as Rice Crispies! Come on, Rice Crispies!), and even in our little shaker of garlic salt! What?! Both things are also in breads, since it extends the shelf life. It's pretty crazy. As a result of our new found knowledge, we looked up all kinds of yummy bread recipes in our tons of cookbooks, bought some yeast packets, and a second bread pan and our homey Waterville apartment will shortly be turned into a full-fledged bakery. The way we see it, there's really no reason for something as simple as bread to be so gunked up with nonsense crap, so we'll from now on be making our very own. And now that we have two bread pans (and may even go back to Goodwill for a third), we'll make it even more worth-while and bake multiple loaves at once so then we can just throw the extras in the freezer and take 'em out as needed. Our very own all-natural preservative! :)

So, wow. LiveJournal is probably going to think my account was taken over by someone crazy since I haven't really written anything in sooo very long, and here I've written a book today.

:)

well. here we are, winter in maine. i think i'll just nap until april.

you may disregard my previous post, complaining about the ads running across the top of my page and my sullen feelings of shame because my beautiful friend bought me a bit of a paid account! :) hopefully this will influence my return to the universe of the lj.

i haven't been up to much lately...work and school, work and school, work and school...you get the picture.

friday becky and i went out to the bars with some of her coworkers, which always proves to be a good time had by all...we started out at lisa's (the normal hangout), keeping the seats warm there for a whopping five hours...yes, really...and then around nine o clock we headed to the liberal cup (my virgin visit, and i loved it just as much as i had anticipated) where we happened across another of wifey's coworkers, a wonderful older (well, fifties-something) um...sister. she was there with her *sorta* partner and two of their lovely friends. we chatted it up with these fantastic women for an hour or so, i got called a baby dyke, drank a free (and utterly delicious) beer (backhouse bitter...yum, for anyone who goes to the liberal cup), and heard the low-down on all the cool, cultural, gay, and artsy places to check out in hallowell...as if the whole town isn't categorized as such... :)
