I'm close to happy-relief tears about this. And nervous.

I identified the person who attacked me correctly, and the person who identified him for the arrest was informed of it.

I really really hope I don't have to go to court for this, but I will if it's necessarily to keep him from going back onto the street.

In relation to last post...

I got some consistent answers, but they've given me some extra thought on the nature of magic. Specifically: What do you consider an illusion?

Is an illusion a trick of the mind, making someone see something that is not actually there? (In which case, only the target actually sees the illusion, correct?)

If not, it is something visible to anyone who comes across it. This then brings up the question: What is it made of? Does light strike it, thus causing you to see it, or does it produce its own image, thus making it visible? How does it affect the world around it?

I used the 'can an illusionary light produce true light to see by', and a number of people said 'no'. Well, then. Can an illusionary sound produce an echo?

----

I'm thinking, for my game world, if a sense can detect the illusion, the illusion is 'apparent' to that sense. If you make an illusionary flame, it will produce light. If you add the sensation of 'touch' to it, it will hurt like all hell, but not actually cause burns. If you produce an illusionary sound, you will get an echo (if conditions are appropriate). This means, I think, that in my game world, phantasms can bend and alter light, thus allowing things such as telescopes and invisibility.

----

Just some food for thought. :)

"--Is it bright where you are?" [help needed]

OK, I've reached the point of restlessness where I'm snapping at Stacey. This isn't good for me or anyone else. I need to get out of the house, soon. And I would prefer to be interacting with other people, not just taking myself out for coffee or a hike.

Suggestions and/or offers of companionship solicited.

Illusion

While working on a game, I'm pondering how effective illusions are, and what they are capable of. I gave a list of questions to some players, and I'm opening it up for discussion, so I thought I'd posts here and see what there is to say here about it.

1) Does an illusionary light produce actual radiance, allowing one to see inside a darkened room? Or, is the radiance illusionary, and the things seen within the light radius an illusion too?

2) Can a person use illusion to turn themselves invisible? What happens, then, if you turn a door or wall invisible to look through and see what is on the other side? Is what you see real, or just an illusion?

3) If you create a telescope or periscope with illusion, can you see distant things as if they were closer? Can you look over a wall with the periscope to see what is on the other side?

Players who fail Perception checks

I have a player in my game who's a decent sort, but I have a couple of problems with him.

He isn't very good at noticing things either IC or OOC, unless they're so blindingly, mind-numbingly obvious that they absolutely can't be ignored. He's also forgetful - there have been times that the other players and I were, like, "How in the name of all that's good and holy could you have forgotten THAT?"

I've tried encouraging him to take notes. Thing is, he has to remember to do it, and also remember to refer to them once he has. I've also tried recapping the previous session at the beginning of the game, but there are some events that build on things that happened three or four sessions back. This player doesn't remember them, and is frankly amazed when the rest of the group reminds him ("You don't remember that your character's friend was pregnant by one of the bad guys? We had to rescue her four sessions ago!").

Advice?

*mope*

Restless night again. I struck out on my on-call list; I think I need a longer list. Settled in with a martini and Hell Boy instead, which is disappointing so far. Especially after the pillar of awesome that was The Dark Knight. It's a poor substitute for a moonlight drive and midnight coffee.

Don't be strangers...

For those of you that do not know of The Dresden Files Rpg...

Good day,

After looking at the poll I put up, it is obvious that quite a few people have not even heard of the game. I will see what I can do about that.

The Dresden Files are written by Jim Butcher and have gained a lot of popularity over the last few years. Here is a small bit about Storm Front, which is the first book of the series.

Harry Dresden is the best at what he does. Well, technically, he's the only at what he does. So when the Chicago P.D. has a case that transcends mortal creativity or capability, they come to him for answers. For the "everyday" world is actually full of strange and magical things -- and most of them don't play well with humans. That's where Harry comes in. Takes a wizard to catch a -- well, whatever.

There's just one problem. Business, to put it mildly, stinks. So when the police bring him in to consult on a grisly double murder committed with black magic, Harry's seeing dollar signs. But where there's black magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name. And that's when things start to get... interesting.

Magic. It can get a guy killed.

The books deal with Harry Dresden and his fight against the supernatural in Chicago. There are dealings with Vampires (red, white, and black courts), werewolves, ghouls, demons, both the summer and winter courts, and even a ruling council known as the White Council. There is a ton going on, but the books are a ton of fun and the game should have plenty of options.

The group that is making this game is Evil Hat Productions who has made a few other games people may recognize. Don't Rest Your Head and Spirit of the Century.   Sotc is by far the most known since it uses their Fate system, which is based on the widely known Fudge system.  The Dresden Files RPG is also going to be a Fate game, their updated Fate 3.

I am not a part of their company in any way, but I love the games they have made thus far.  I am also play testing the Dresden Files Rpg and want the word to get out on a cool game based on some great books.  Everything is subjective, so if you do not think the books are good, or something along those lines, there is no need to bash them.  :)

I hope you take a look at this game and hopefully find a new game to play in the future.

Stacey

Aaron Acevedo Flash Flood Recovery Print Sale

(Hopefully this one's not outlawed by the community rules. I'm not related to this sale in any way beyond being a fan. Just trying to spread the word.)

http://aaronace.livejournal.com/110566.html

Aaron Acevedo is an artist for Deadlands, L5R, D&D, the WoD, Solomon Kane, and a bunch of other cool books. He's the CEO of Talisman games and an all around swell guy. A couple of days ago, his house was hit by flash floods, and at the very least the carpets and furniture were ruined. Hopefully his gaming books made it out ok. ;)

Anyway, he's holding a print sale to help pay for all the damage to his home. Prints are only $15.

Now, what do I want...
