Drama Free Cigarettes, straight from the Singapore airport
Ultimately, the Livejournal implementation of a blogging community has been broken by trying to wedge "friend" and "subscription" into the same little space. I don't have enough context with you for the stuff you write - which tends toward the highly personal - to resonate; I can't possibly see how you could have enough context with me to care about the more personal things I have to say.
That's the "subscription" level. I don't read your journal, and I treat my LJ friends list as a subscription list.
On the friends level, taking you off my list doesn't mean I'm executing some nefarious and evil plan to permanently exlude you from ever being a friend, or to somehow devalue you. Do you see the difference? I hope so. In any case, the friends-vs.-subscriptions issue is the foundation for the very drama that made me leave LiveJournal (other than the token, now-and-again reading and catching up) in the first place.
Have a good holiday, M. If you see me on sometime, and you find a reason you'd like to talk, shoot me a line. I know you've got the digits.
