Tife and Limes: ON THE GREEN! [May. 9th, 2008|10:30 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[music |Neo Turf Masters - Intro]

-Today and yesterday I worked on some show called Scrubs. It's in a hospital and is a comedy or something. Apparently it is somewhat popular and a few of my friends might be familiar with it.

Seriously, I know of the show but haven't really watched it. I saw most of one episode at Gene's house where the black guy ate too much ice cream or steak or something. The only person I recognized was this old white guy who once played an angry Earth Alliance Captain when John Sheridan was trying to liberate Proxima 3 (/nerd). Anyway I think it'll be funny if in a year or so somebody messages that they saw me loitering around a Coffee Bucks in a blue shirt. I wasn't in that many shots, 80% of my time was leveling up my second character in Puzzle Quest. $16.25 an hour! I can't stop remarking about how ridiculous that is! Did I mention it's ridiculous? WELL IT IS!

-My birthday present to myself finally arrived. When I got wind of these in February and discovered their release date was on my birthday, my dumb ass got excited and preordered them on Amazon instead of at my local Gamestop. So I had to wait a week for shipping. *bonks own noggin*

The selection in SNK Classics is great. There are some noteworthy absences like Crossed Swords, Super Spy, NAM 1975, Ninja Commandos, etc. but hopefully there will be a Volume 2. I've actually been playing Neo Turf Masters the most. I played the holy hell out of the Neo Geo Pocket version (which I gushed about frequently during my NGPC frenzy of '05). The portable version is the same game only with SD characters. The arcade game is unfortunately missing the distance graph next to the map which was a substantial help AND the game is a bit harder overall but that's fine by me.

Unfortunately SNK Classics has this wack goals/medals system to unlocking bonus content. This and the Capcom Classics should've just had the extras available from the start. Some of these games are just simply NOT FUN enough to grind through on hard or insane difficulties. You even have to unlock World Heroes, which not being a difficult task (get 10 medals) was also completely unnecessary. Still, well worth the $15 for anyone who grew up with the 4-slot Neo cabs in their arcades.

Fatal Fury Battle Archives 2 is EXCELLENT. Real Bout Special and Real Bout 2 definitely deserve a bigger following, awesome characters and animation and presentation and and and. Their default button layouts are the only weird thing about it because they're all different (why??) but it doesn't matter since you can change them. Extras are a training mode and color edit. Also glad I can now map A+B, B+C, A+C, and A+B+C to the shoulder buttons for those bleedin' SDMs. GO TO HEABEN~! I hate Chonshu/rei.

-I finally caved and bought enough GI Joe 25th Anniversary Comic Packs to get the mail-in Doc. I bought 2 of the Crimson Guard/Scarface sets and kept those for my collection. I don't need the pilots because I'm not getting any planes (as cool as Wild Weasel looks), Tomax and Xamot are gay, Torch and Ripper were always idiots in my book, nobody needs a blue Destro, and Breaker's cool for having his gum but I still don't need him. That bunch will go straight to auction.

As I wrote before in my big-ass Joe list entry, Doc was my very first Joe. I wouldn't be doing the mail-in if he didn't have that significance. I rescued him off the floor of my pre-school when I was 4, and now I have to rescue him again! I must Rescue Doc! Damn you Hasbro! Also word is he's a pretty dope exclusive in his own right. Having to wait 6-8 weeks makes me feel young again. Remember Super Trooper? 8-10 weeks.

Man. I keep gushing about Joes and I'm going to have to make a new tag.

YSO Style: Jeanie

-Made this last week since I had a particularly good picture to base it on. I have a few more people who I want to do up in the style once I get inspired enough to take the time. Also, I took all the YSO art and slapped larger versions of them on my DevArt.

-Really cheesed off at people not writing me back. Particularly people who I haven't heard from in an excruciatingly long time. It's been happening a lot lately.

-Still dry on ideas. The writer's block is not leaving. >:|

-Past few days I've been really pissed off. So many 'potentials' and zero definites. This is the worst place to be, particularly after so many months of going out there and getting nothing back to show for it. Holy crap I'm mad! Hopping mad! Not fun or funny!

-It's been about two months since I started the new condensed routine and I'm looking the best I've ever looked. I'm probably not going to gain much more unless I start hitting the protein and/or change my diet but I really don't feel like I need to (you can take my pasta when you pry it from my COLD DEAD HANDS). I'm happy with maintaining this if I soon plateau. My body type would be too difficult to maintain much higher amounts of muscle anyway (I've had a few ectomorph friends who tried to bulk up, what an ordeal to watch), I'd just have to keep feeding it constantly. No thanks.

Hey Gene! Protip: cast shadows

I've never been motivated to spend more than an hour just working out anyway. I've always believed that spending LOTS of time exercising should go towards particular skills because it doesn't take that much time to get fit. You just have to know your body, be smart, committed and persistent. Exercise efficiently, not excessively.

-I bought a cheap-as-free bluetooth headset from buy.com for ten bucks and it works great. I only intend to use it with the PS3 and my phone when I'm driving. It irritates me when people walk around the bookstore with these flashing clusters in their ears talking loudly to themselves. You know, all "Call AMBER... call AMBER!!! this fucking thing... call AMBER!!!"

I tested it out on Tekken DR with Will on Tuesday, hilarity ensued )

Blitzkri3g by a Stove with Lowbaaaaaalls: Part 1 [Apr. 19th, 2008|01:59 am]
[Tags|, ]

Our beloved and androgynous mascot Steve landed in Los Angles on Tuesday to meet the SoCal contingent of #awesome after many many years of online shenanigans. He's staying at Will's until Monday. My first vision of this man was witnessing the light of sunset cascading through his sprightly mutton chops. Also he is taller than I expected and his voice is higher pitched than the hilarious .wav song files he used to make.

Fortunately the night before I had spent some time getting the right MAME version that works in stupid freaking Vista so I could use both DualShocks for 2 player (MAME32k has a .dll error that greys out my options). I knew I didn't really have any games that all of us played otherwise so it would at least give us a head start on the evening. I blew up the screen on my Westinghouse, plugged the audio into my 5.1 system and was ready to go when they arrived.

The Steve, the chops

An all-SNK old school 2D bonanza, as good as it gets )

I don't have many close friends with PS3's (total: 1), so I'm a-feelin' pretty special.

[14:43] Esco> why do these metal gear units moo like cows
[14:43] cka> because they're fueled by MAD COW DISEASE
[14:43] cka> mad cow = bovine FOXDIE, y'know
[14:44] Esco> god this is hilarious
[14:44] Esco> unit jumped off a building all "MOO-OOO-UGH"
[14:44] Esco> not a terribly intimidating noise
[14:46] Esco> Enough, Snake! You can't take any more of these... robo-cows!
[14:47] cka> hey
[14:47] cka> at least they don't sound like donkeys
[14:47] Esco> that would be awesome on an epically terrible level

Tife and Limes: Pictures because my legs hurt [Mar. 30th, 2008|11:46 pm]
[Tags|, ]

-Posture isn't hard, footwork isn't technically hard. HOWEVER, the rhythm makes transitions between simple alternating steps seem unintuitive. My only other problem is a natural tendency to angle my feet out because I want a stable base. Crazy Argentinians. As part of the routine I'm doing the FOLLOW for the first section (part of the story) so my introduction to it is sort of backwards. Just needs drilling. Can't wait to see how it shapes up after a month or so, the character parts are gonna be gold.

-With a good floor, soft-shoe in Vans is easy and I get a clear sound. Only riffs are a little awkward. I should get cracking on my final early. I got some rhythm ideas by watching some Flamenco and Djouba, need to step my game up. Last final was wracked with nervousness. This semester I've FELT the rapture. Blow some socks off this year.

[music |Kids in the Hall - Season 2 Commentary]

Looks like something Herb Trimpe drew in the late 70's

-I've finally started a second art phase for YSO. I conceived the idea months ago but put it off until the movie got delayed again. Now I've got nothing but time, so there's a bundle of new people to graphicize for some layout ideas. Fortunately, now it only takes half the time to make one. Used to take 4-8 hours. I just put on 2001 or some commentary for ambiance and time gets KILLED.

-Saturday I started my second semester of ENGINEERING. Twenty-five people or so. Four people from last semester! A good chunk of the new folks have had previous experience, like four or five with a LOT. I'm hoping not many people drop because with more people in the class we'll have more opportunity to work in groups at different levels. The first semester it was really only like two very advanced people and everyone else was a beginner. ALL of next weekend is off because of President's Day, which is ridiculous because I want to go to my freaking class.

-Had a few recent leads for stunts, none have followed through so far. I don't mind though. Finally getting really busy and self-motivated. Working out more than I have in a long time, going to ghetto gym twice a week, eating a lot, ideas popping off left and right. Probably start on some choreography and possibly some boards for another project that's been kicking around my head for the past half year or so. Still got anxiety waiting until April for YSO, but I have to do all I can to power through it.

-Gaming wise, HD has totally ruined me. Playing a PS2 game at only 480p kind of hurts my eyes after a while. Got a second-hand card reader and put all my old saves on the PS3. Also FINALLY bought a sealed copy of Omega Boost for $9 off eBay and got to use that eight year old PS1 save file. Man, playing a PS1 game on the PS3 looks like JAGGED HELL unless you turn on the smoothing option, then it looks like a normal CRT.

SATURDAY GODZILLATHON... DIGITALLY REMASTERED!! )

[music |Newsradio 2nd Season Commentary Ep 8]

Back on January 21st, a genesis:

[13:49] Esco> I actually liked GZUS
[13:49] cka> BLAQ
[13:49] cka> VCRS
[13:49] Esco> it sounds out when you say it and it isn't terribly obvious
[13:49] cka> FRUT
[13:50] cka> I wish I could congest "goatse" into 4 letters
[13:50] cka> 3OE!
[13:51] Internet> ok, I'm down with GZUS
[13:51] * Esco seconds
[13:52] Esco> and today... the stunningest, ballsiest, most averagest 2-man clan was born
[13:52] Internet> haha

Call of Duty 4 is that game everyone is talking about )

-Apparently that huge storm we were supposed to get today whittled away into like a fifth of what it was predicted to be. The weather reports dropped the ball on several allegedly severe storms over the past month. I am glad though because this means the gym won't be any spongier or fishier than it has been lately, and the owner can be inexplicably stubborn about not taking preventative measures against the damp. I'm trying to keep the possibility of mold open, just so everyone stays aware in case some people start dropping from respiratory ailments or allergic reactions. I like wondering how much it would cost to renovate that ancient building anyway. Warped-ass floor.

-I wonder if I have moderate DSPS. It's been fairly consistent in my life to fall into a four a.m. to twelve noon schedule.

Buy 1 Get 1 Free man not an event to be missed

-Best ensemble cast of a sitcom. SCREW Seinfeld. Going through the commentaries now (about fifty of them total). The gag reels on these sets are the best extras on any box set I've seen, they each run about twenty minutes. I had every episode of the first four seasons on VHS and only 1/4 of the fifth because dumb ass NBC changed the timeslot ELEVEN TIMES that season. Season Five is somewhat uneven but has some really good episodes in there, particularly the Johnny Johnson mini-arcs. I'm a big Jon Lovitz fan but there was simply no replacement for Hartman, the cocksure and take-charge adversary for Dave. But to the writers' credit, they didn't just create a similar archetype after hiring Lovitz although his neurotic character didn't mesh well with the dynamic. I didn't really like how Dave had evolved into a predominantly angry and spiteful guy, but it did make sense over the entire series. A kick-start in New Hampshire would've been great. NBC just mucked it up so hard.

edit: Trying to write while listening to commentary transforms me into the Emperor of run-on sentences.

WE ARE ABOUT TO ACHIEVE VICTORY, COMRADES! [Jan. 13th, 2008|01:15 am]

[music |CoD4 - Lobby Music]

-Soundtrack is here. Whoo. I'd be more excited but I'm going to be hours into the a.m. playing and re-playing the movie with the music and hashing out notes for editing. It's really tough deciding if some scenes play better with or without music. It's just as well I do this immediately since I've been sleeping from 10 am to 6 pm the past few days except for Tues/Thurs gym. Just when I think I've fixed the problem my body says PSYCHE and I wake up after three hours and can't get back to sleep. Horse hockey.

[22:36] Esco> chicken nuggets are so unhealthy
[22:36] Esco> how I love them so
[22:40] Antigone_Jones> I second the chicken nuggets obsession
[22:40] Antigone_Jones> they are so good
[22:43] Esco> I can feel the grease coating my innards
[22:44] elfbutt> one time i got a bone in a mcnugget
[22:44] Antigone_Jones> i prefer the mickey d's kind no matter how nasty people say they are. i just need to order the right amount and not let any of them go cold
[22:44] elfbutt> i dont think ive had one since
[22:45] Antigone_Jones> so far, I haven't had that kind of experience
[22:45] Antigone_Jones> they are awesome, nonetheless
[22:46] Esco> I used to get into fights with people over chicken nuggets vs chicken tenders
[22:46] Esco> that was some epic grade school debate
[22:47] SamX> chicken tenders 4 lyfe
[22:47] SamX> nuggets are good if you're broke
[22:47] SamX> but tenders are the symbol of ballin
[22:47] Esco> NAW NYUGGA
[22:47] * Esco pulls out Tec-9
[22:47] elfbutt> lol
[22:48] SamX> elfbutt which chicken do you rep
[22:48] elfbutt> "one time i got a bone in a mcnugget" WHT DO YOU THINK
[22:49] SamX> hahaha
[22:49] Esco> he rolls with fries
[22:49] SamX> that's 2-2
[22:49] elfbutt> mcds fries are soggy
[22:49] SamX> chick-fil-a waffle fries > bk fries > wendys fries > mcdonalds fries
[22:50] elfbutt> where do arbys curly fries go
[22:50] elfbutt> bk fries right after they redid their fries were the best, when they had mr potato head in their commercials
[22:51] Esco> I have never eaten at an arbys
[22:51] SamX> me neither
[22:51] Esco> not since that simpsons joke
[22:51] elfbutt> lol
[22:51] elfbutt> i dont eat there
[22:51] SamX> LOL I was about to say the same shit

-I took a break and played some CoD4. Got on the best freaking tear I've ever had for nine games until someone closed the lobby. All Mercenary Team Deathmatch: 17-7, 21-6, 25-2, 24-7, 16-7, 22-7, 12-5, 9-6, 16-7. Kill streak got up to 19 on that 25-2 game. Kill ratio is now 1.54 (3000k-1943d), 249 Headshots, 499 assists. The only thing I'm looking for in numbers really is to get my ratio to 2.0 slowly and surely, still not interested in Prestige. I'd rather keep all my junk. ISN'T THIS NEWS INTERESTING?? OH MY GAW. I'm really considering getting a bluetooth mic because I've more often had some actual helpful people in teams (and I wanted to freaking brag about the 25-2). But most importantly to yell at guys who make rookie mistakes. I'd be yelling "DON'T BUNCH UP" on a constant basis. Speaking of, I took down three guys with a P90 because they were all huddled together in a corner. Also, standing still and shooting? Standing in the open and reloading? People oughta learn.

[music |Mary Jane Girls - All Night Long]

-Skipped gym. It was raining balls and I read an article about something over two hundred accidents by that afternoon because our responsible driving populace was speeding in the rain.

-Did more Christmas shopping today, I'm about 80% done I guess. It has been less of a gift card bonanza this year and a more "Eh, what the hell" kind of process.

-I have grown to hate Christmas music. I wouldn't hate Christmas music if such things as soprano sax & light rock instrumental interpretations of every song did not exist/were not played in stores.

-Ozomatli tomorrow! GLEE. I will probably get there three hours early and loiter around because SCREW traffic. I absolutely hate being late to anything I paid money for.

-After I got home this afternoon I spontaneously labored on a pencil sketch of a slightly miffed Baroness and it turned out hella times better than I thought. So much so that I looked up and it was eight and I had FORGOTTEN TO EAT. Still, rare thing to have a freehand sketch turn out to my satisfaction. If I get inspired again I'll take a stab at inking it and see how that results.

That's a G3 w/HK79 or G3TGS I think it's called

-It is really difficult to stop playing Call of Duty 4 online after a few games. The maps are really well thought out. Every building has entrances on multiple sides and the highest points are very visible so snipers/campers have a harder time than in other games and have to be on the move quite a bit. I've only put in about ten hours so far, currently at 2nd Lieutenant (Lv 26). The challenges are a great incentive. Can't wait to get that sodding P90. A couple days ago I was REALLY on a roll and now my kill ratio is like 1.16 (112 kills more than deaths). Good times. My only cons are that I cannot mute the other people's mics (some people love having emphysema into the mic or let their toddlers babble into it the whole match, volume control barely does shit) and very often the game will throw all the prestige people or high scorers into the same team. What is THAT shit about. Had my whole team bounce on me once because they were getting murdered so hard. Fortunately, rank is more indicative of playtime frequency than skill as I've seen plenty of high ranking dudes play terribly and get consistently bad scores. One session I had this clan of 3 guys lose to my team about four times in a row, pretty badly too, and their post-game mic chatter was hilarious.

I've only called in a chopper twice but those things are sweet as hell. Also, taking down a chopper with small arms fire alone is a hugely satisfying thing. Killing someone with a grenade launcher before the grenade goes off is great (*CHUP* +10!). One of the funniest things that happened so far was I managed to kill THREE guys during Last Stand. They were all like doing the box step and reloading instead of shanking me on the ground. You can get almost three magazines off during Last Stand. Also, while in Last Stand and managing to STAB somebody is laugh-out-loud shit. I have yet to try the suicide grenade perk even though I fall for it all the time because I have a tendency to kill people up close but GET killed at a far distance where a grenade would do no good.

Tife and Limes: It wasn't prosthetic it was really his chest [Nov. 28th, 2007|03:56 am]
[Tags|, , , ]
[music |Zapp & Roger - So Ruff, So Tuff]

-Con: Woke up Tuesday afternoon and had some C-Groove Level 2 diarrhea. It was an epic battle. After that I was dehydrated and tired as hell, so I drank a ton of water and went back to bed. By the time I woke up again it was too late to go to gym. Alas. BUT Thursday by thunder I am going to GET IT ON like MONTALBAN

-Pro: Since Thanksgiving I kicked into overdrive on the art for Fancy Plans and I've just about got everything done. Promo shit is on the rise. Scaling and layouts took the longest but I got my motivation back, finally. It was a few months of slowly picking away at it in the beginning and at times finding the drive was frustrating as hell. But things they are a-very nice-uh. What a relief. Hopefully now the color themes will be clear as day. Several months ago I was mad as hell because despite all the icons and borders and graphics people were still whooshing on it. Amazing.

In your FACE, lethargy

-Con: I have a goddamned canker sore that appears in the exact same place on the inside of my bottom lip every few months. I can't wait for this fucking thing to heal, takes about a week. Have to avoid touching it with food or I get a stinging pain. Facts about canker sores and cold sores: Canker sores differ from cold sores in that they occur on the internal soft tissues of your mouth and aren't contagious. Conversely, cold sores almost always start out on the lips and don't often spread to the soft tissues of your mouth. In addition, cold sores are caused by a form of the herpes virus, making them extremely contagious.

-Pro: Tekken 6 is the ILLEST. ILLEST! The boss is grade AAA platinum preposterous, but it looks soooo good. People already seem to have a pretty good handle on Leo. Bruce, Dragunov, and King's new stuff looks especially nice to me. Eddy losing the d+4 to a slower but more powerful d+4,3 (Corta Capim-Au Batido) I'm mixed on. His handstand throw damage is meh. I liked the Escala~Au Chibata-Martelo do Chao-Meia Lua thing, don't know the notation yet. Anyway GENE watch all those videos. Bruce's new stance and delays are SICK. Also, DOUBLE TIGER KNEE. Serious business.

-Con: I am WAY overdue for a haircut.

-Con: When the hell did everyone sick again? Suddenly half the people I know are trying to get over a cold. I don't remember anyone being sick before I left.

-Con: I think it was some bad sourdough that gave me the colon flurries. I hate having to throw away food. Some people in this world buy food and LET IT GO BAD! They just let it sit around and get rotten! I don't understand it! How goddamned lazy do you have to be to not eat food you spent money on?? Jackassery!

-Pro: I am in great shape! BASK IN THE HARD WORK. BASK!

edit: recorded for posterity

[00:16] Esco> there are only so many people that are in that top percentile
[00:16] Esco> you just have to do your best and find some satisfaction in what you're doing
[00:16] p_d> you're right
[00:16] Esco> put your own spin on it so if it's mediocre in comparison at least it stands out for some reason
[00:16] Esco> that's what I do
[00:17] Esco> I'm not great at a lot of things, lots of people are better at stuff than me, but I ingrain so much of myself into it that it's definitively mine
[00:17] Esco> people look at it and go "oh larry did that" "that motherfucker is WEIRD"
[00:17] Esco> good times

SO LONG, BUTTER STICK INC. [Nov. 7th, 2007|07:16 pm]

[music |The Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive]

I am hella laid off!

Well, officially on the 15th that is.

My boss knew from the beginning that I had my feature project and I'd eventually go on to bigger things. He knew for damn sure that I wasn't a lifer. Right now, business is slow and he's making a lot of changes to our procedures, so he figured it was a logical time. He wants people on the payroll who are in it until the end times (HA!). I reek of ambition. I didn't expect it to be quite this SOON, but what are you gonna do. He was always thinking November, I was always thinking January or February. I knew for sure that it'd be 2 years at best. Year and a half is nothing to complain about.

Hmm. The possibilities!

WHOO WE HAVE A BAND AGAIN FOR THE SOUNDTRACK HOLY BALLS HILLS AND VALLEYS STOP SCREWING WITH ME GOD LET'S MAKE IT WORK!! ARGH

Boy is today ever some crazy highs and lows.

Call of Duty 4 is the ILLEST. It's like playing a Bruckheimer movie only I am constantly getting killed by grenades. The AI is relentless. Top tier presentation, maps have tons of different routes, loads of holy shit moments, great scripted events and a seriously fun bonus after the credits. Basically everything from Call of Duty 3 was improved and kicked in its ass. Beat the campaign yesterday in about six hours, will go through it a bit more before jumping into multiplayer. 9/10.

edit: I am having the most difficulty getting some screenshots because there's so much going on while I'm trying to press the Freeze button on the remote, but there's more than enough to look at out there anyway.

Tife and Limes: Denied a hot short-haired brunette happa at every turn, damn you Krishna [Oct. 19th, 2007|10:08 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

-This was the slowest week on record. Monday I only ran about six jobs. It picked up a tiny bit in the middle of the week but it was still under half of my usual load. Today I only ran THREE jobs and spent most of my day reading the news and playing Scrabble. These dry patches do happen but it's kind of weird to have my workload practically evaporate. Last week we were thrice as busy.

-Drasticism. If you REALLY know me, eating a salad regularly for lunch is as bizarre as it gets. No, I don't know what brought this on.

-I am the god-damned certified King of going for a woman only to soon discover she already has a boyfriend. I swear. It has happened with such routine frequency that the phenomena has moved beyond simple coincidence into some kind of fucked up innate talent. It's maddening.

-Gym was the best. Guatemala beat Mexico, or so I repeatedly heard.
Gymming it up the hardest of cores )

-Not excited about SF4. Waiting for gameplay footage. The new logo looks awful, like it belongs to an extreme sports game starring Mario.

-The combined factors of 1)Talking to Steve and 2)Having the bombest TV have resulted in some screenshots of the Soul Calibur IV trailer showing Namco's perfection of ass-lighting techniques. The new girl is HORT. All the girls look excellent so far except for Bushroot hoop-greenie what's her face.

[music |Prince - Let's Go Crazy]

Tony's moving back to the bay and stopped by Sam's house Saturday night. Only about five people made it and I was the only other ZG-er, everyone else was working or busy. It was basically looking at weird photos and playing the Wii for four hours.

PARTY HERD

We got our tennis on like nobody's business. I think because Nintendo's a family system it rigs the game so each player gets at LEAST one match point in best-of-five. If someone was getting dominated, the AI partner managed to screw up just enough or the ball would get knocked into the stands repeatedly to even things out. I swear.

Boxing was ridiculous. I KO'd Sam in the first round, and lost the rematch in the second. I was trying to throw liver shots for all I was worth but ultimately it was for naught. It was about as accurate as those ridiculous Super Monkey Ball mini-games I couldn't figure out for the life of me (EFF YOU RING TOSS)

Tony was hell-bent on beating the Bowling challenges and got respectably far on the obstacles. I was sucking pretty hard at it until I adopted my sister's inexplicably accurate granny/freeze technique.

Screw golf.

Baseball got its hooks in me hard. Baseball was my favorite sport as a kid until I tried Little League and competitive culture beat all the fun out of it. But after playing the simple 3-inning game I liked how it felt and played the home run challenge a half-dozen times in a row. I was swinging the bejeezus out of that tiny stick. My best was 7 or 8 out of 10. My upper back felt really tired on Sunday, I didn't know why, and it wasn't until today when I started using my arm more that my right rotator cuff was barking at me. Boy was I was swinging that bat a lot harder than I needed to (wouldn't have been anywhere near as fun just flicking the wrist). My shoulder was all "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING YOU HAVEN'T SWUNG A BAT IN 13 YEARS YOU 'TARD." I would still totally get the baseball bat handle for the controller.

Well I have a stronger case for getting a Wii now, but not unless I have people over more often. Ought to get the #awesome crew together for a Super Bomberman tournament. I've spent a lot of money recently so maybe around/after Christmas.

It reminded me that I should get the ZerGs together for a Sega Superstars VF session eventually. Maybe if someone has a get-together who lives more around the Glendale/Burbank area and has a big living room.

P.S. THIS MAN GOT HIS RIB ON. CAN YOU DO ANY LESS?

[music |Jurassic 5 - What's Golden]

Mid-week we found that there was no awesome going on during Labor Day. Hasty plans were made for shenanigans! My place was roughly the midpoint, not to mention the coziest option. And lo, it was! The BEST. )

Arr, 'tis a good reputation to have.

Dang dudes it is a NICE ass day today. Not too hot, not too humid. I jumped around, jumped up jumped up and got down.

Talk about Transformers, Shaun of the Dead, Comic-con. Cut for your convenience. )

It's Emperor Sam Yu's birthday. He's already God's gift to women so there's not much I can give the guy.

[music |Ozomatli - La Gallina]

Dang Dad why don't you just buy me Street Signs and a t-shirt while you're at it ;D

Also, you best be getting/watching the Live @ the Fillmore DVD and not your usual press-play-and-do-something-else movie watching ritual.

Then again this could very well be one of those cases where my Dad already knew about Ozomatli and just didn't say anything- and here I come up all Hyper CE Ver.B Enthused about it as if I'm some kind of Magellan basking in my personal discovery before my eventual skewering by a cheesed-off Lapu-Lapu. This situation has been known to happen (i.e. Getz/Byrd, Mendes & Brasil '66)

Hmm. In other news, it looks like my Aunt is intent on joining a Frisco Biker Gang called the Intensity-Built Flowers. The ink is kind of smeared on the back of this card but I'm fairly positive that's what it says. Nothing comparatively mundane like identifying wildflowers.

My dumb ass finally figured out how to get the PS3 running off my wireless DSL, which was a stupidly easy process. I just never considered it prior because I barely used the wireless at all until I got the notebook. Threw in Call of Duty 3 and tried out the multiplayer.

Holy BALLS. If I had this kind of instant entertainment when I was in school, I would've flunked out SO hard. This generation has so much convenience at their hands it's mind-boggling. Anyway it's like Battlefield only more... grounded, I guess. I played the Poisson map a mess of times, just tanks ALL OVER the landscape. Best thing is that people really do spread out over the different classes, never all Snipers or MGs or AAs. The spawning also shifts around the map so teams never get trapped in a particular corner for too long. I'm not particularly good at killing in these games but I'm really good at assists so I most frequently play as a medic. If I find some guys on my team camping someplace (usually snipers or an MG laid out at a corner) I'll just hang out and revive them. Respawning only takes five seconds but reviving adds to the team score. One game I was in a barn roof with two Axis snipers and I just went back and forth healing them about a dozen times before the Allies finally stormed the barn with four guys just to get me. Great stuff! In Battlefield it was really easy in Team Battle for all your idiot mates to spread out on all corners of the map so it might as well would've been a deathmatch. In CoD you spawn within a good proximity to your team and have better reason to stay together and double-up on vehicles.

I was briefly considering selling CoD3 but holy heck no way now. And I keep hearing all sorts of jubilance over CoD4, which I cannot wait to try. HOT TIME

Got home from work and ANOTHER call from a miscellaneous talent agency. I've mentioned this before. This time the lady actually said "Congratulations!" as if I fucking WON an interview from a new-ass talent agency that's just farming for a database. OH I SO RUCKY. Same pitch and bullshit, "One of our scouts referred you to us and said you have a great look for blah blah dick" and when I ask for specifics they freeze up and lose their space on the prewritten speech. Well that part is kind of fun actually.

Anyway I want to dole out hella hugs and kisses on short-haired brunettes with pouty lips :(((

I guess I'll just call Sam and ask if I can come over and watch Tokyo Raiders.

It's all right to make noise! [May. 7th, 2007|11:50 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[music |Ozomatli - Eva]

Saturday gym kinda sucked because half the floor was taken up by a hip-hop dance crew with one guy who kept complaining about not understanding the "vision". Shooting later that afternoon however turned out to be more hilarious than usual, even though all we were doing was literally running about the same area and gasping for breath. Shot a couple great in-jokes too. Nay, the BEST in-jokes. "What was that noise??"

What is it with these Chinese places and putting the drinks in jars
YES JARS ANDREW SHUT IT

Unfortunately we didn't get to watch Tokyo Raiders (lol) at Sam's despite building up the hype for so long before dropping him off. Andrew also promised to narrate Silver Hawk scene-by-scene over the phone but that didn't happen either.

Sunday: Brad ranked to Conqueror in VF5 (FINALLY) and Puzzle Quest beaten (DOUBLE FINALLY). Tried some drawings on the backlist, didn't turn out the way I wanted.

My sister's birthday not being far from mine, I took her present as inspiration and did some digging on el interweb. I found the block was one of two new Banpresto sound plushes, the other was surprisingly not difficult to find. Thus she ended up with the handsome fellow on the lower right plus Every Extend Extra for the PSP.

OH THE MEMORIES

When I bought the Goomba I knew I had to get one for myself later. This thing is just about the absolute ridiculous must-haveness. I wish I had those extremely pronounced angry eyebrows. It makes the stomped sound when you hit it and after a few it'll make the GLACK sound of Mario touching it and the accompanying fall-off-the-screen jingle. HOLY RAD MAN. Next to come out this year are a yellow block from NSMB, think the sound might be the same as the original block (hope it's different) and a green Koopa shell which is mine the second it drops. Click for Banpresto label )

Didn't get any drawing finished today, so... girl in panda suit.

Good Night!

So many games! The time is where? Blistering barnacles! [May. 4th, 2007|10:24 pm]

Yeah Sure Okay is updated like yay. Wootles!

On a whim I went to Best Buy and bought Ozomatli's Live At The Fillmore CD. I have NEVER heard Ozomatli. But holy flaming tetherballs this is my new favorite band. I wasn't even paying attention when I bought it, I thought it was only a 2-cd set, but the second disc was really a concert DVD. And WHAT a show. Hands down the best vibe in any concert I've seen, every member functions like parts of a single body while retaining their individual style. I'd go on and on about how ridiculously good the album and the band are, but there will be plenty of Ozomatli references in future. In short: Best band ever, top tier live album, I still buy CDs. It's nuts!

Their trombone player and bass player CRACK me UP. At least I know their debut was not long before I stopped paying attention to new music and entered my persisting jazz-nerd phase, so I don't feel so bad for not knowing about them earlier. Listening to some studio tracks on the DVD, I'm glad I got the live album first. I prefer live albums 200x over. When you hear the band going off the energy of the crowd and just straight KILLING, that's the best shit.

Fact: I saw DHC at the Fillmore ages ago. It was hot.

BIRTHDAY SURPRISE FROM THE FONZ. CARD FIGHTERS THE NEXT GENERATION!
Not expecting presents and then receiving presents is the best. And if you've been studying for the quiz, the Fonz and I had a highly competitive old-school CFC for NGPC period in 2005. THUS begins the EVOLUTION! I have to finish Puzzle Quest first though, I can still see it when I close my eyes. The main quest is LONG! Like War & Peace long. It's great though. Closest I've gotten to playing an RPG since NES FF1.

Summary of above, IRC version.
[19:13] Esco> snap somebody sent me a gift from amazon
[19:13] Esco> it's all nicely wrapped and green
[19:14] Esco> damn who is this from
[19:14] Internet> there's no name on it?
[19:14] Internet> ergh I mean
[19:14] Internet> You're welcome bro
[19:14] Esco> "see you thanksgiving"
[19:14] p_dilla> ahahaa
[19:14] Internet> Happy B-day ;)
[19:14] p_dilla> that's cool esco
[19:14] Esco> looks like a cd
[19:14] Esco> I'm guessing it's my uncle what sent me some jazz
[19:16] Esco> OH SHIIIII
[19:16] Esco> It's from the Fonz
[19:16] Esco> I have Card Fighters DS
[19:17] Esco> crap in a hat I didn't even know this was out yet
[19:17] Esco> DOUBLE SHIIIIII the second ozomatli disc is a DVD
[19:17] Esco> I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW!
[19:17] Esco> HIGH SCORE

TIS A GREAT DAY. Dance like there's ass in your pants, and such as.

Also, important thingy about CFC DS:
[19:21] dub> esco, CFDS has a crazy glitch
[19:21] dub> level nine boss locks the game if you talk to him after you beat him
[19:21] dub> makes new game plus unplayable :(

Awww

Anyway, more scraping together the last remnants of Fancy Plans this weekend. First it was "Damn this is a lot to shoot" then "Damn we have so much left to do" and now "MAN THE MOVIE'S OVER!! NOOOOOOOOOOO". Go figure.
