cka gave me a shoutcast addy for an all-80's station (Club 997: http://64.236.34.67:80/stream/1040 ) and I've been listening to the shit all night. Internet radio is fuggin' great. Now I've got about a dozen stations bookmarked, all jazz, funk, house, and 80's
I don't care what anyone says, LOVE SHACK is the JAM.
My sister and my cousins and I used to listen to my Uncle Jeff's CDs every Christmas when he was still living at my grandpa's house, it was something of a ritual to play his Cosmic Thing B-52's album for some reason. My cousin Shay does a pretty good Fred Schneider. If you can't get down to this shit: "I got me a car, it seats about twenty, so HURRY UP! and BRING YOUR JUKE-BOX MONEY!" then you are sorely deficient of positivity.
I have a copy of a tape my dad made around '84-'85 of MTV videos (music videos told stories more often back then) that have been ingrained into my mind forever. Besides some very recognizable classics (1999, Let's Go Crazy, Thriller, Beat It, Legs, Ghostbusters, Don't You Forget About Me), there are a few standout 80's videos I'm listing here. Shout if you know 'em:
-Standing on the Top pt.1 - Temptations feat. Rick James: One of my favorite songs/videos of all time. The world needs more videos of middle-aged men that can dance better than most young people. -Lovelite - O'Bryan: Only just found out who this was, the tape didn't have a name. Song's pretty catchy. Used to think he was a weird Asian guy. -Dynamite - Jermaine Jackson: Video is roffletastic, modern dance/prison escape spectacle. -Jam On It - Newcleus: White people in tube socks/gym shorts doing windmills and blondes going "wikki-wikki-wikki-wikki" = comedy E-GAD -Freak A Zoid - Midnight Starr: Live set, this went on FOREVER -I Didn't Mean To Turn You On - Cherrelle: Original version with King Kong breakdancing, highly superior to Mariah imo -Beat Street Strut - Juicy: Song's ok, the video blew my mind back in the day. -The Glamorous Life - Sheila E.: People walking into flaming doors confused me greatly as a five year old. -Billie Jean - The Jacksons (Victory Tour): Fucking AWESOME video. This was Michael at the launch of Thriller. The world needs a concert DVD of this tour.
There's also a video that I have little information on, other than it stars a pre-gangsta Ice T doing lots of scratching, some guy who plays the bass in random locations, and some pop-locking kids. It's probably a song by Chris "The Glove" Taylor- but it's not Reckless from the Breakin' soundtrack
Anyway, good times.

Finished tagging all my entries. Didn't take as long as I thought. Managed to keep the tag list under twenty, and everything that was more or less random just goes under "daily life". Tags are handy, I like 'em lots.
The sunset yesterday would've been a very pleasing display of lavenders and pinks... if only there weren't so many god damned telephone poles and power lines cluttering up the horizon. I pine for the great outdoors. (Continued anti-city bitching and moaning)
Yesterday I walked by a young woman in a black leather jacket who looked about my age. But once she passed, I was bluntly struck by a thick odor wave of pure beef jerky. It was such a pungent & concentrated dose that I was momentarily staggered. I figure she must've been the Goddess of Beef Jerky- she who walks this earthly sphere as the embodiment of all things beef jerky manifested in a human guise. Shocking encounter.
Walking around without a computer last week, I noticed that old town Canoga Park is basically Thrifty Second-Hand McCheapsville SoCal Central. All on the SAME STREET: Three thrift stores (two side by side and one directly across the street), a used bookstore, three 99 cent stores, two resale clothing stores, two surplus stores (one army/navy, one hardware), two pawn shops, five antique stores (all side by side on the same block), a Big Lots, and a Goodwill on a side street in the middle of all of it. It's fun to go out for an occasional afternoon and browse the incalculable volume of crap, sometimes you can find some great books or videos (a while back I picked up Star Trek II through VI on VHS, all still shrinkwrapped for $10). You can get a lot of really cranky old people/angry parents that talk waaay too loud in these places though. Some act like you've offended them personally if you pass beside them. We will never all just get along, I fear (Not at the National Council of Jewish Women's Thrift Store anyway).

My last day in Hope, I depart for the airport at... 4 A.M.?! AGKH. Can't say I'm looking forward to returning and paying all those impending bills. It hasn't been all fun up here though, my hay fever clobbered me a few times. Man, where does the time go? I could've just gotten here yesterday.
Additional lessons learned: -How to drive stick (I AM VERSATILE NOW AND THEREFORE A WINNER AT LIFE) -Lime Coke > Pepsi Lime -Moose do not live near the mountains (so I haven't seen/been gored by any) -I need to do yoga every morning again -Reading is for awesome people
Anyway, time to continue flopping upstream.
