I had meant to make this last night, but staying up any longer would've ruined my sleep schedule (which I've been clinging to with some success for the past week).
Yesterday I was succumbing to the heat and getting drowsy as hell (at like 3 in the afternoon). Not content to be defeated by nature, I mustered enough motivation to get off my Jabbaesque arse and exercise. Decided to make an entry like this one from May 11 while I was at it.
Got my jackknife and armada dupla back, yay! I've been trying to push myself to build up my endurance. Doing a lot of jumping tricks is easy enough when waiting just a few seconds between them, but doing only 3 or 4 simple ones non-stop can be extremely tiring. For a few months in college I did plyometrics, but I found that the only way I really felt improvement in my jumping ability was to do every acrobatic move I already knew as much as possible. It's a whole lot more fun than doing fucking lateral hurdles and squat jumps. I haven't been pursuing a larger repetoire of acrobatics but instead trying to retain/build explosiveness and balance.
Ah, ye olde Au Batido. Also known as the au malandro or beija flor. I haven't done this in years, seriously. It's an iconic Capoeira move, but in the late 90's it was being assimilated by everybody- breakdancers, sport karate, any trendy idiot who wanted attention. Soon I was seeing it in music videos and even in god damned Kidz Bop commercials. People were calling it a fucking "L-Kick" of all things. L-Kick. Get the fuck outta here. The trendiness killed it and I just plain stopped doing it for a long while, but I'm not so uptight about it now. Looks like I can still do it decently. As showy as it appears, it really can be difficult to see coming straight at you- I've seen more than a few people cracked on the dome with this and wondering what the hell hit them. The double one, that's just for fun.
Man, I was riding on post-workout endorphins for like 2 hours afterward- just feeling GOOD. Training in a bad atmosphere can really kill that sensation, at the gym I might get a good workout but be more concerned with getting the hell away from the people around me and going home (why I stopped going to LAVC, seriously, fuck that place). I've found training by myself has gotten substantially easier as I get older, I seem to be better disciplined at pushing myself without needing other active bodies to leech off of. But we'll see if I can get anything done once winter shuffles in and says hello.
Oh and last night the sweetest breeze was sweeping in through my window, it was heavenly. The afternoons are still punishing as fuck but I actually get cool air til about 10 in the morning until the sun shines on my side of the house. |

God, every time I read one of these posts, I'm always like "I wanna be able to do that."
Fuck you, seriously :(
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO START
UNLESS YOU'RE LIKE, FIFTY
You mean martial arts in general? I wanna be that flexible. You're all over the place, dude. You're avatar is a testament to that. So, is it still too late?
ps I envy you.
Man, with ANYthing. You just need the discipline to keep at it & stick with it on a regular basis once you've started. (regular being a lot more than once a week)
But I thought valley is the best place in the world!!! Oh man, ur not cool anymore.
Just got my hands on a borrowed copy of An American in Paris.
Did you see Silk Stockings? I'm gonna try to get my filthy paws on that too. Couldn't get it at Blockbusters (i guess that's why it's called blockbusters)
"Always dignity!" - Don Lockwood
I'm too cool for school.
I didn't like Silk Stockings. I found it to be quite unremarkable.
Your apartment is like a modern-day kung-fu/gaming temple. I never get tired of seeing pics of you doing "Tekken IRL" shit. :)
and next, Law's FC,UF+3+4
*THUD*
OW! OH CHRIST MY BACK! OH FUCKING GOD IT HURTS!
Can you do Lee's f+3,3,3,3,3,4~3 into uf+3?
Since when can Acid Storm go to anything else? What's all this 4~3,u/f+3 business at the end?
Acid Storm~HMS~uf+3. Don't you play Tuxedo MaskLee?
I don't use Lee very much. None of his movelists indicate that he can cancel to HMS from Acid Storm so I've never tried it. Since when does u/f+3 do anything from HMS, or is it just Quick Silver Sting?
Every time I see a post like this, I am awed beyond belief. :\
