One of my fave things

Take an hour or two, and take a look at this wonderful blog.

Gosh, she seems like such a lovely lady.

Thank goodness for not working very hard and playing on the internet and finding lovely things that make you happy.

Death By Sexy?

I feel really sorry for all the worms when it rains.

In 1881 Charles Darwin wrote, "After heavy rain succeeding dry weather, an astonishing number of dead worms may sometimes be seen lying on the ground. . . . It is not probable that these worms could have been drowned, and if they had been drowned they would have perished in their burrows. I believe that they were already sick [perhaps due to parasite infestation], and their deaths were merely hastened by the ground being flooded."

Did you know that:

Worms don't have lungs! They dont drown.

They breed when it rains. They come out of the ground to find each other and to lie side by side in a mating posture, a difficult thing to do in the confines of their burrows.

They possess both male and female necessities for producing offspring. They are, however, sexually social animals, and only, er, self-mate when not around other worms.

I'm pretty glad I'm not a worm. Except for the self mating thing.

Hungover? Much.

I had a family thing this afternoon, and my long lost aunty brought some sketches my nana had done. They aren't her best, but something drew me to her pen drawings.

The lovely Enid Town-Treweek nee Raynor

I miss her a lot, and I wish we could have had a more adult relationship, because I could have learnt a lot from her.
I did anyway, in the years I knew her, and I'm so grateful for her.
Her kind and giving nature is something I aspire to be a natural part of me.

I think she would be happy about whats happening with the T-T clan, starting to form some bonds again, starting to feel like the hugs are true again.
Margaret is really a lovely and healing influence.

I'm not at all sad but I kinda feel like crying.

Saxophonists do it in the reeds

The thing I hate/love more than anything else in the world, is when people put out saxophone albums and give them stupid (ass) names like:

*Unforgettable Sax
*I Wanna Sax You Up
*Sax on the Beach
*Let's talk about Sax
*I'm Gonna Give You All My Sax
*Unforgettable Sax Vol II
etc.

Fair Pay! Now!

The strike today went very well. I was impressed with the spirit of the union members across council, and I feel positive we may even get somewhere with this.

Why are we striking?

The decision for 500 Auckland City Council staff to strike was not an easy one. City Council staff are conscious of their role as public servants and have not taken industrial action for at least 10 years. Unfortunately we feel we have got to the point where now there is no choice.

We can’t bargain for pay or holidays.

It is only fair that staff can bargain for regular cost-of-living increases to their pay. We have been in Bargaining with the City Council for over 6 months. To date Council has refused to make any pay offer or to Bargain about our concerns with their current unfair “performance only” pay system.

The big Pay Gap.

The current pay system has left Council staff way behind the market. Staff turnover is up and we say money is being wasted in a system that doesn’t deliver. Auckland City Council will not even release information about the problem, let alone Bargain with the PSA about the union’s solutions to fix it.

We’re concerned about Local Government in Auckland.

There’s lots of public concern about Council rates, local government and the services it provides. It is really important City Councils, local government workers and the public all work together to find solutions to these problems. Aucklanders need and deserve a Council that shows it can work with its employees.
