Jul. 13th, 2008 @ 04:17 pm Herroooo!!!!
Tomorrow I start my Individual & Social Psychology paper. Since it's been a few years since I've been studying & I'll be holding down a job at the same time, I'm only doing the one paper for now to see how I go. Waiting for my text book to arrive since I ordered it over the internet.
The Auckland Film Festival has started and tonight I'm going to go and see the new Romero zombie movie Diary Of The Dead which I'm looking forward to. Yesterday I went and saw Iwe knew, a doco about a dutch Paediatric ward for premature babies. It was very good and made me wish I was still involved in paediatric nursing. I also went and saw Anita O'Day: Life of a Jazz Singer which was also pretty good, but it didn't stack up so well against some of the other music docos I've seen such as The Devil & Daniel Johnston which is an outstanding piece of work.
My job I'm kind of at odds with but I'll keep chipping away at it until for whatever reason i don't have to be there anymore. If it was just a case of going there and doing the job it would be OK but it's the little things that add up. and there are a lot of little things. Ideally I would'nt have to be there beyond the end of this year but I don't see that happening. They will however have to work extra hard to keep me there by this time next year.
Today I watched Witchfinder General cause that's the sort of shit I'm into.

Jun. 15th, 2008 @ 08:29 am Phaser
The cheap lil phaser pedal I bought off trademe arrived yesterday. Unfortunately my guitar is probably gonna be in the shop for another week:( Oh well, atleast my guitar is gonna be really nice to play again when I get it back. The Phaser sounds like it'll be OK but it doesn't seem that strong when I run my bass through it. Getting into scoring cheap pedals at the moment when really I should be paying off my UK credit card bill as fast as poss so then I can get back to saving for my modular synth I'm hanging out for.
Not much else going on though I'm detirmined to get a rollerskate posse together sometime soon. My tinker around on my rollerskates the other day erally got me keen to get some likeminded clumsy oafs together to chimp around trying not to fall over.
Still waiting on my small amazon order which is due anyday now. I ordered one of the latest Love & Rockets books & the second season of Twinpeaks on DVD. It's due any day now apparently.
Powerful.
On other fronts, I should check out the new Ladytron album & go to the mall to buy the third season of Deadwood already.

Thie weekend CP & I went down to Te Puke for her dad's 65th birthday. A lot of time in the car but the scenery was a lot greener than the last time I went down in the middle of this summer's drought I almost managed to squeeze in my first driving lesson since getting my license. Yes, licensed to learn how to drive now, heaven help us. A few bunny hops here and there & not loving the huge difference in pressure between the accelerator & the clutch but I'm sure I'll get there at some point. Not getting anywhere near as bullied as in that Happy-Go-Lucky movie.
We'll see.

Since I've been going crackers getting all my holiday snaps developed, I started feeling bad that my poor lil camera has been so neglected since I got back to NZ. So lastnight I decided to break out the camera to take some snaps:

I think I've finally finished developing the photo snaps, very happy to have them all in my hot lil hands.
This Friday night Sandoz Lab Technicians are playing in auckland. Definitely gonna go and take that in. Been 10 years since I last saw them play. Played CP a record of them, wasn't her cup of tea. Guess I'll be going to that one solo..

I've just got home from seeing HDU. The first time I saw HDU was at the Empire in Dunedin in 95. It cost $3 to get in, there only about 10 people there, and the gig was unsurpassable. i went off them a bit over the years as their sound changed and they got a bit mellower. Anyhoo, it's been a few years since I last saw them so when I saw they were playing here tonight i decided to go along even though the door charge was $27. Í'm real nostalgic for NZ music of that period at the moment so I really wanted it to be good, but really I'd be hard pressed to say the gig was anymore than OK. There were moments when it was sweet but overall? The bass player insisting on tuning his bass between every song? Come on, get a decent bass chump! And the drummer? What the fuck's up with all the dumb 'I wanna be a disco drummer' beats? Tristan was on fairly decent form. Only one song from the early days when they were good. For that brief moment, it was almost as good as being back at the Empire in 95, great days...
Other than that, today I finally got round to getting my Learner's Drivers license.
I also got me a Django Reinhardt record & a Perez Prado record:)

Current Mood: sick
Current Music: GG Allin - Needle Up My Cock
This morning I'm rediscovering the joys of GG Allin after a few years' absence. For a while there back in Dunedin it seemed like you couldn't go round to anyone's place or go to any parties without GG rockin'and it got to the point of over exposure. And then there was the GG tribute album a friend of mine put out a few years ago that i recorded some songs for. Anyhoo, I bumped into him again this morning on a random mix cd I put in the player and it was good to hear him sounding nice and fresh again. Classic, vintage GG, pre prison stay and before his voice got all fucked up.
So I'm sitting around after another week on the new job and I have my first cold of the winter. It's just entering that yucky stage.
My job is quite challenging, mainly to my sense of morals and ethics. I don't know whether this job is gonna be longterm or not. I enjoy approving shit so people can have surgery and stuff, but I hate declining people. That shit sucks.
Soon I shall be startingmy psych study so that'll be cool.
Nex weekend I might be biting the bullet and finally getting my learners license...

May. 5th, 2008 @ 07:38 am (no subject)
The task this weekend was to start sifting through hundreds of digital photos to work out what to print. What a ballbreak. So many subpar or funny angled photos! So glad I didn't take them all on a film camera...
Looking forward to getting the prints out when it's all down though. Looking at pics on a poooter screen just isn't the same as having a hard pic I reckon.
I got all my stuff out of storage this weekend including all my old pics which are are all water/moisture damaged... Sigh...
Training for my new job is finished now so today I start my frst week on the job proper, let's see how bad I fuck up...

It's pretty much all work for me at the moment but my 3 week training up period is finished so now I get to make some real fuckups. Those monkeys are gonna regret hiring me by the end of the month, I'm sure. We'll see.
My nursing knowledge is already getting me noticed by folk furtherup the chain though so I might get head hunted...
Looking at signing up for my mental health qualification in the next week or so, which will be good to get started in on.
Other than that, not a lot, bought a Zen Stone cause as much as I love my other player, it's a lil bulky at times where the Stone is a tiny lil thing. So cute!
Mental note: take guitar into shop for maintanance next payday.

Apr. 25th, 2008 @ 07:26 am ANZAC Day
I was going to get up early and attend the Dawn Ceremony outside the Auckland War Memorial but it turns out there's no public transport at that hour and I really didn;t fancy getting up at 4AM for an 80 minute walk. So instead I'm sitting around watching the coverage on Maori TV.
This time last year CP and I were on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey sorting out our position for what was a very cold night, waiting for the dawn ceremony there.
We got by on hot cups of Turkish apple tea.

Kemal Ataturk, the prime mover of Turkey's defense and founding father of modern Turkey actively fought and led Turkish troops in the war. This was what he had to say about the whole thing.

Iconic landmark of Gallipoli

Anyhoo, I'm gonna go to the Auckland War Memorial later on to check out some of the comings and goings.

I've reached humpday of my new job. So far it's not too bad. I get to dust off my nursing knowledge which is good. I'm not sure whether I'm going to be ethically challenged by the role but t this point it's money and I've been out of work for a long time now.
I have a growing pile of things I want to do with money once it starts coming in including
Pay off the credit card
Enrol in some Psych/Mental Health papers towards some sort of mental health role.
Get my guitar fixed up
See some flicks at the upcoming International Film Festival
Buy a fake iphone.
Stoked to be working again, now to get a band going...

Current Music: High On Fire

After many years of false starts and saying I would, I think this is finally the year I get my Learners Drivers License. to be honest I could give a shit about getting it and learning to drive but I told my gf I would when I get a job and now that I've got a job I have no real excuse.
I've been doing practice tests online and I'm at the point where I'm acing them now so I guess anytime from here on in I can probably look at booking in and becoming licensed to learn how to drive.
I'm kinda meh about the whole thing.
I'm also meh about the fact that for his birthday, a friend of mine has decided we have to go to the rugby league with him today I don't like sport so I've never attended one of these games. I guess it could be fun in a retarded kinda way.
On a note unrelated to anything, I was watching Danger Mouse the other day and he kept on cracking jokes about my old London stomping ground Willesden Green, cuuuute!
Made me all nostalgic and shit...

Tonight I baked my first Peach Cobbler. I'd never tried it before but if it was good enough for George Hearst on Deadwood, then it's good enough for me I figured.
I baked it for a dinner I was going to and man was it yummers!
Easy dish to make. Not too pricy.
I hope I get to take in some good gigs soon.

Apr. 10th, 2008 @ 10:46 am And So Endeth the Drought
After months of nothing, I start my new job on Monday. I feel like I can finally get cracking back into life in New Zealand now that I have a job and money coming in. My poor credit card will be sorely thanking me.
And after a long absence, it's going to be good to get back into the health field which I've been looking into for quite a while.
It's also gonna be a good year for parttime study. The plan will be to do some mental health/psychology study around the job, along with some Italian study I think.
Desperate to get back into some travel so there's gonna be some saving to then too.

Feb. 18th, 2008 @ 05:24 pm Daydreamin'
I'd totally forgeotten all about it until the day had pretty much dawned and smacked me in the face but CP and I had bought ourselves tickets to the ATP:Don't Look Back presentation of Sonic Youth performing Daydream Nation! I love it when that shit happens.
Rocked out to the venue on the North Shore only to find out that not only were Sonic Youth playing, but that Dead C were playing support, super awesome!
Great sets from both bands, heaps of flying into the sun, heaps of noise, good shit.
And if i'm not mistaking, for the encore of non-Daydream Nation material Sonic Youth brought out Mark Ibold (ex-Pavement) as an additional bass player.
So that was a pretty cool night.
But what was also cool was getting to catch up with a whole bunch of chums I hadn't seen since I got back in country.
Good shit.

On Christmas day my niece made the call that I don't understand the new music cause I'm old and I onlylisten to old people's music.
To a certain extent this is true. I listen to a lot of old school jazz like Gene Krupa and Django Reinhardt. But on the other hand there's the fact that pretty much all contemporary popular music really does suck.
