Spent the last 3 hours trying to scan a picture and download photoshop on my dad's comp, in order to clean up said photo. Stupid photo scanned in at 1.27 MB. Stupid photoshop won't download on my dad's stupid old system. So why did I go through all that?
Answer: cause if I hadn't been up by now I would have missed TBS airing the movie Surf Ninjas! SURF NINJAS! Prophetic gameboys, evil overlords, chopsticks of doom, the What-If superpower, and SURFERS WHO BECOME NINJAS - great crack movie. |

So recently I've been thinking, or realizing, that McKay is hot. He's among a few within the sexy geeks trend that the Stargate fandom has started. Or at least started in my lifetime, I don't know about any old-school sexy geeks. For me it started with Daniel and Sam, then Kaylee and Simon, and McKay. And I'm looking over what they have at david-hewlett.co.uk, and when I go to blockbuster on saturday what do I find but a bunch of copies of the movie Nothing, staring him and Andrew Miller. It's directed by Vincenzo Natali, it's one of those things where they've all been friends forever and they make movies together and this is something like their seventh.
Anyway, in the history of my friendship with... all of my current friends, I am always the last to know anything, and for ONCE, *I* get to reccomend the incredibly cool and funny but not well known movie/music/show/thing to everybody else. So, ahem:
EVERYBODY! The movie Nothing is pretty awesome and you should see it. Rent it and then buy it from the canadian amazon.com for my birthday. ;) |

Ow. Ow. Ok, that's the first time I've cracked a joint and hurt. Ever. Also, I was cracking my neck, and it ricocheted down my arm. Somewhere between my elbow and my wrist there was this crack and then PAIN. It's fine now, it lasted a second, but - weird.
Also, one of my friends with their extensive knowledge of cult films must help me out with this. I'm writing a bar scene, and since I have little knowledge in bar fights or alcohol, I'm re-watching all the bar scenes in Firefly plus the beginning of Boondock Saints. I remember seeing part of one movie, and I'm pretty sure it was Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, where the guy takes a shot, spits it into another guy's face, and then throws his cigarette at him and the guy's face goes aflame. So, can anyone confirm this? Also, are there any other pyro moves to speak of, cause in Boondock Saints they tied the mobster down, poured liquer on his butt and set it on fire. There's gotta be more fire related stuff used in bar brawls. Fire pretty. |

Ok, does anybody remember those Australian/British shows that I think Disney aired: Spellbinder, The Tomorrow People, and Ocean Girl? They're like non-American, fantasy/sci-fi versions of Pete & Pete or Clarissa Explains It All. And a decade later all the DVDs are coming out! I want them very badly, will anyone contribute to this reclaimation of my childhood? Yeah, I know, I never go for the easy stuff like Care Bears.
Oi, I want sleep but I have work to do. Damn the two weeks of academic hell meshed between two long breaks, DAMN THEM.

I feel like such a jerk. My mom just told me my great-aunt Thelma died, like 3 weeks ago, and I can't say I'm in shock because she was 80 but goddamn. I never met the woman once. See, this is all on my mom's side of the family. I'm a lot closer with my dad's mom and his aunt. They're both grandmothers to me. I kept planning with my mom's mother, my other grandma, to meet her sister, and it just never happened, and now it never will, cause I'm too fucking lazy. |

8 minutes in, they've outright said the N word four times and talked about supporting (or not) homosexuals. Yay for keeping with Aaron McGruder's wonderful political incorrectness. It also manages to look like the comic, which I think looks like american anime.
Only bad thing so far are the voices. My *god* but Huey doesn't sound right. Huey needs to sound like a boy! Damn whoever cast Regina King for his voice! |

I don't like most of the Buffy/Firefly crossover fics I'm finding. For some reason I really *hate* the idea of River being a Slayer. It... cheapens her character somehow. It's a cop-out.
And it's seriously interfering in my fanfic enjoyment. I have yet to find a Buffy/Firefly (or Angel/Firefly) crossover that I really like. I mean, besides the stuff you can find at Twisting the Hellmouth, most of which is IMO below-average stories all about randomly pairing up characters Bcuz thier HOTTZ!!1! 2g3ther! or having a Buffy character show up and suddenly be the expert and boss of everyone. *shudder* Can't. Stand. Badfic.
Rough Heals is good, but too short for a story of that tone, at least for me. From Here to Serenity is very good, it has a fast pace, tight plot, and great characterization of, well, everyone, in both 'verses. I was on the edge of my seat until chapter 6 when it's revealed that Book is a watcher, ooooh, and in chapter 8 it's revealed that River is a Slayer, ooooh. Blech.
And the Book-as-a-Watcher thing bugs me for the same reason that Toby-Ziegler-as-a-Watcher bugs me, in some West Wing/Buffy xovers. Toby would never put up with the arrogant, controlling attitude of the Council. Doesn't mesh. It's all about taking the wise, most literate man of the bunch and slapping him with the role.
Anyway. At the moment I couldn't write anything better, but at least I know to keep all the crap to myself. |

Allright, the whole 'Mal Reynolds is like a poor man's Brian Kinney' thing has finally busted my brain.
Someone needs to write a Firefly/Queer as Folk crossover! And I'm not kidding. It needs to be done in the spirit of Serenterprise-D, and the style of every single QaF fanfic durendal has ever written. It can't be me, because then it would suck. I'd make Jayne only a little bit gay, if only to give River hope that she's got a chance. >D |
