I just figured out all by myself that the vocal samples in Orbital's Halcyon are Kirsty Hawkshaw from "It's A Fine Day".
Damn I feel dumb.

It was a bit chilly, but quite fun. Even got to do some fishing.
We drove out to Robert Moses State Park on the south shore of Long Island for the 2008 LINXC (Long Island Nissan Xterra Club) Beach Permit Run.

Well, I am gainfully employed once again in addition to going to school. Even though I am finishing my Mechanical Engineering degree, I took a job as an IT Manager for a small IT consulting firm. Today was my first day, I just have to start getting used to the driving. Most of my customers are in northern NJ. This should prove to be fun and interesting. We work with small to medium sized businesses and Mark (the owner) has many IT business contacts that he (and them) refer customers back and forth depending on their needs. Seems to work like an informal conglomeration, but smaller. Here we go again! |

Well, Matt's yacht transport service was back in action yesterday. We drove down to Keyport and picked up a Charles Hankins lifeboat from a boat builder that is friends with my friend Jack. Jack paid the hefty sum of one bottle of vodka. The boat is significant because Jack just recently bought the building in Lavallette where Mr. Hankins had his boat building business. It's diagonally across the street from the Crab's Claw Inn (but you knew that Chris, right). The life boat was in pretty sad shape, it was held together with 2 2x4s that kept the sides from falling in on its self. Jack plans to restore the little boat to its former glory, or something close.
Here is the vessel on my trailer in Keyport.

Amazingly it stayed in one piece for the drive down the Parkway.
While I was at the boatyard in Keyport, I saw I boat that caught my eye. I spoke to the owner of the yard and found out it was for sale. Needless to say, its VERY tempting considering the price.
The Evelyn 26. No bumble bee jokes necessary.

...or taxi cab jokes neither.
I likely. I want.

Only 48 hours till I leave for Florida with boat in tow. Gary and I are trailing his boat to St. Petersburg. The races are the 15th, 16th, and 17th. You should be able to track our progress at the following site: http://www.sailingworld.com/nood_regatta.jsp?location=597. The boat name is "Slice", Gary Gochal skipper.
Well, I had a full day today. I'm gonna finish my soup and go to bed.

Get a load of this gem. The Alps MD-5000. Come on, you remember these, nope you didn't need that brain cell either.

Pulled it out of my basement, looks like it works too. Just have to get a USB to 1284 adapter so I can use it on my main computer.
Oh, and get a load of all those tapes. Did you forget that it was a dye sub printer? Nah, 'course not.

Hmm, might be a reason why my friends call my basement the computer museum. |

So while reading the daily Anarchy I noticed a thread on the Olson's class websites. Since I crew on an Olson I checked it out and found this:
http://olsonuldb.com/media/index.html
That picture was taken last August when I was up in Canada, Kingston, Ontario to be exact.
Pretty cool I think.
The woman is Gina, our pit girl, the back of the head is Craig, trimmer/tactician. Not visible is Gary the owner/skipper, and Rich, the other trimmer.

I hope this victory isn't short lived, but the squirrels can't into the soffit right now. Last summer we closed off 2 spots where birds got in and just nested right at that spot. Then the squirrels got in and run all around the soffit which goes half way around the roof. They kindly made 2 more holes, one bypassing one of the closures. Well, this morning I went up on the roof, found the entrance, and closed it up with expanded metal. About a half an hour later you could hear them running around the roof, and they where not happy. I even got out my BB gun to take some pot shots at them so they would get the message. Hopefully they did as I haven't heard them so far tonight.

Today was the yacht club's annual frostbiting regatta and chili contest. I raced last year but this morning I just could not get up early enough to go down and race. The weather wasn't that bad, about 45-50 ish, but very little wind. My friends Eric and Gary won today. I sail with both regularly, so its cool to see them win.
As for the chili, I spent most of yesterday whipping up another famous batch. I took home 3rd place and best presentation which was cool. One chili entrant put a sign on her chili saying "So good it's all gone" she only made about 2-3 quarts. When I saw that I made sign saying "So good, we make ALOT". I had made 12 quarts and about 8 were eaten. Hmm, you be the judge.
I don't follow a recipe, just go to the store, buy what looks good and start cooking. This years had 4 types of meat, beef, veal, and pork sausages (Italian and chorizo). Lots of fresh tomatoes, onion, eggplant, and bell peppers. Spices came from habanero, serrano, wax, and poblano peppers. The 3 heads of garlic helped out too.

I found this amongst the Anarchy.
Not just during this Holy time of the year, but truly year round.
Our Lager, Which art in barrels, Hallowed be thy drink. Thy will be drunk At home as in the tavern. Give us this day our foamy head, And forgive us our spillages As we forgive those that spill against us. Lead us not into incarceration But deliver us from hangovers For thine is the stout, the bitter and the lager For now til last orders. Barmen
It's the first time I've seen it, so bite me if its been posted before.

Well, I should say Pete's personal boat mover, cause he has so many boats and he's always asking me to move them somewhere. It was absolutely beautiful weather wise today, so Pete and I spent most of the day down at the yacht club. We derigged his boat, setup his new, makeshift gin pole, and unstepped the mast. We also loaded up a new (new to Pete) mast for Harlequin. He's trying to make a 50 year old boat just a bit faster.
I was giving him shit about the hull of Harlequin being so dirty, apparently his brother had ragged on him too for the same thing. We had the boat out just before the end of the season, and it was dog ass slow. Here's why...

Yeah, back to me dragging Pete's fleet all over Central Jersey. Our friend Henry has a nursery, of all places, that fertilizes sailboats over the winter. Of course the lights on Pete's trailer don't work, so he has to stay behind me, and I don't know exactly where I'm going. So off we go with Harlequin in tow...

After all that fun I went to my Aunt's for Christmas Eve dinner and ate a lot. That's all for today, I'm beat. Merry Christmas everyone.

I got my first arrest warrant today. Yippie!
Ah, the wheels of justice...
...are apparently square.
A few weeks ago I received a ticket on my truck for my trailer, which was hooked up at the time, in front of my house. The ticket was for over due registration, the trailer lives on private property most and I had just brought it to my house. They couldn't even knock on the door, the ticket instead had no name on it, put in a zip lock bag on my windshield. Of course I was home at the time too. Additionally they put an abandoned vehicle sticker on the trailer, mind you it's attached to a properly licensed and insured vehicle. Anyway, I called to reschedule the court date, several times, with several voice mails, and no response from the township court. So, this afternoon I was greeted with a nice shiny warrant in my mail box. I think I'll frame it, but first I need a beer. |

Take note of the "id"
* af ShagOS swap partition
Unused. Claimed by Frank Barrus for his ShagOS.
Need I say more.
