3rd October, 2007. 12:00 pm. book list

I wasn't going to do this because I figured it would be all sci-fi and fantasy and I would feel stupid for not having read any of them. But I looked at the list, and thought, huh.

The basic rules: bold what you have read, italicize what you started but couldn’t finish, and strike through what you couldn’t stand.

Book list! )

I've read most of the classics, but not necessarily finished them all. Hooray for all the Jane Austen books, since they tipped the balance for me. I have to say, I read many of the books when I was younger and didn't get it, which is why I couldn't stand them (ie: Brothers Karamazov and Dubliners). Also some books I had to read for school, like Ulysses and Mrs. Dalloway...

16th December, 2006. 11:16 pm. ha ha ha meme

I've been watching the 12 Days of Christmas song make its rounds on my friendslist. I was originally not interested, but I just tried it.

The site told me: This song would be better if the user had some interests listed. Add some and come back tomorrow, if it's yours.

What was my song?

On the twelfth day of Christmas, duchez sent to me...
Twelve veeks drumming
Eleven trentms piping
Ten divinedivads a-leaping
Nine jearls dancing
Eight stormes a-milking
Seven mangofandangos a-swimming
Six lurds a-laying
Five li-i-i-iza31337s
Four katre50s
Three inkyljs
Two jrws
...and a LiveJournal meme in a pear tree.
Get your own Twelve Days:

I get dancing [info]jearls and [info]storme as milkmaids?

I think I like it better without the interests!

Current mood: amused.

I recently added a few friends to my friends-list, but since I rarely post on LiveJournal, I thought I would just say hi!

Also, if you would rather read my posts through LiveJournal instead of going to the web site each time, you can subscribe to my RSS feed using this link: http://syndicated.livejournal.com/duchess_muse/

Basically, this link would add "duchess_muse" to your friends-page, and whenever I write anything on The Muse, you will see it appear on your friends-page. Handy, no?

What Kind of American English Do You Speak?

I find it interesting that I do have some Dixie - I blame [info]katre50 for that, and I wonder if Upper Midwestern is a holdover from the teacher I first learned English from?

Seems like people took my attempt at making a list of songs easily recognizable in good humor. I was surprised one or two remained unrecognized, so I am actually putting up the answers, just like a good sheep I am.

All in all, I am happy people guessed most of them, but I am musing over the ones people didn't. Thanks for playing!

12th December, 2004. 12:32 pm. song meme

I looked at [info]ifmud's song memes, and could guess none of them because I haven't heard of most of the songs/artists. It then occurred to me to do my list off a CD-set that I used to have (that I lost) - and I know a vast majority of you *have* heard these songs at some point or the other. Shouldn't this be fairly easy for you?

I think [info]tablesaw has an advantage, but [info]lpsmith, [info]limax and [info]markm probably will recognize them. But I wouldn't put it past [info]storme and [info]kizlj, either.

If you figure out what the CD was, or the theme of the CD, it should get pretty easy. Maybe I should put the one-song-per-person-restriction on this...?

Edited: I italicized the ones people said they knew - but there seems to be a couple that no one recognized yet...

enjoy! )

Current music: can't give that away.

[info]fourcoffees has this for Austria over on his journal, and it seemed like an interesting move. It's tiny and most people have never heard of it, but if you have any questions about Bangladesh, comment, and I will try to answer it!

Current mood: smug too.
Current music: Prince of Egypt Soundtrack (don't ask).
