Cutter is the name of the main character in the ElfQuest books. Cutter is also the last name of Charles Ammi Cutter, who back around 1900 created something called "Cutter tables" - let's say you have have two books on Math. On the library shelf, they'd both end up with the class number for math... say, QC53. How do you label the books differently? You add Cutter numbers after the first letter of the authors last name... like QC53.R53 or QC53.B56. One edition of the Cutter tables was modified by another librarian named Kate Sanborn, and this set of tables became known as the Cutter-Sanborn tables. So I altered the word balloon in ElfQuest from the word "Bearclaw" (Cutter's father) to "Sanborn". Stupid and totally irrelevant to the comic. :)
