Another three hundred bucks later, DK is also back from the vet because she was peeing outside of the box again. I've gotten her a new box and fresh litter, and put another box upstairs that I hope Kira will use more, so maybe DK won't be skittish about using the litterbox. The vet is also testing her blood in case there are kidney problems lurking. Apparently she had fleas too, so the vet insisted on her being wormed and getting flea protection. Oh, and I'm supposed to bring Kira in for the same deal. There's another fifty bucks. I cleaned when I got home and did as they said, but geez. It never ends.

I'm tired of laying out all this dough, though. I'm trying to build back up my financial cushion, and shit just keeps coming up that ends up being several hundred bucks each month. I can swallow it, but it's not letting me build my cushion back up very much.

Sheesh. I just noticed today the sales tax has gone up to 9%. When did this happen?

Now, inconsiderate parking is yet another feature of our generally inconsiderate society. Generally, the worst offenders are the ones who park down the center line of two spaces to make sure nobody will park anywhere within door-striking distance of their precious car.

After all this nonsense with DK not using the litterbox, the truth turned out to be simpler. I found a stain on my carpet with a distinct spot of red in it. So a trip to the emergency clinic and two hundred bucks later, we've got antibiotics for the Texas Tonnage who's gotten another bladder/urinary tract infection. I feel really bad for yelling at her, now.

So here's a fun change. DK's now decided she doesn't want to use the litterbox anymore. So now she's defecating and urinating behind the TV. At least, that's the place I've found so far. I've just tried to block it off as best I can. We'll see if that helps.

But I'm starting to think maybe Kira would be happier in a home without another cat. She seems to be trying to be friendly with DK, who is just having none of it.

Maybe I should get that cat pheromone thing my vet suggested.

I heard the sound of dribbling liquid in my office. This is never a good sign. I turn around to see DK has her tonnage in the covered litterbox -- except her backside sticking out of it, which is urinating on the end of the litter box and dripping down onto the mat in front of it. Lovely. So I had to share the joy with you all!

I just happened to see this scene upstairs, and thought I would share. It's progress...

And now, a kitty update.

So, there's sort of been progress. Kira is trying to be friendly with DK, and DK isn't exactly thrilled about it, but she's not actively resisting. I woke up one morning with both kitties on the bed. Yesterday, Kira hopped up on the couch in my office where DK was, and despite DK hissing a couple of times, Kira settled down and they were actually fairly close to one another for a little while. Of course as soon as I got up to get the camera, Kira bolted back into her fort.

And then last night, I saw DK go wandering behind my TV -- and then I caught her squatting and pissing on the carpet. And I discovered a little pile of poop back there too from a previous visit. Damnit. I thought she was through with doing this.
