Robots in the books [Jul. 25th, 2008|10:11 am]
Stopped by Dreamhaven after our Lake Calhoun walk last night. I'm really going to miss this version of Dreamhaven. The new store will be different and won't have the same staff. (One of who I've hear is moving over to Uncle Hugo's! Lucky for Hugo's!)

Little rose [Jul. 24th, 2008|05:48 pm]
Yay! Our little rose bush is finally blooming. It got pretty beat up with the long winteramd hail storms. I was getting very worried about it.

Have a good party folks. You earned it!

iPhone 3G case [Jul. 14th, 2008|09:26 am]
What is the best iPhone 3G case? I Lile the hard case I've seen for the old iPhone that had the bottom third easily slip off so it could be docked. Who makes that one?

Finally... An iPhone [Jul. 11th, 2008|03:00 pm]
After four and a half hours and four trips across the Mall of America, I finally have my 16 gb white iPhone.

I finally got to work after 11, and quickly assured my boss that I would take the morning as a half day of vacation.

Apple was having so many problems today. At least my iPhone is working now.

Doh! Waiting at AT&T [Jul. 11th, 2008|09:03 am]
Well, I got screwed at the Apple Store. Despite asking the store manager if my company service discount would be a problem, and she said no, they were able to setup my service at the Apple Store. They sent me up to the AT&T Store, where I'm now waiting in line at the AT&T Store. Frustrating. I fear that they won't have my 16 gb white iPhone today.

MOA Update [Jul. 11th, 2008|07:52 am]
10 minutes until the Apple store opens. We estimate over 200 people in line. Caribue (sp?) brought down coffee and water for everyone. Talking with two cute guys behind me. One of them looks like the young John Conner from the Sarah Conner Chronicles.

At MOA [Jul. 11th, 2008|06:01 am]
I finally decided to come to the Mall of America Apple Store for the iPhone 3G release. There are about 20 people ahead of me.

Weather [Jul. 10th, 2008|12:58 pm]
We are all in the severe weather shelter here at work. The sky is green and the rain is falling sideways.

I guess I'm not mowing the grass tonight.

old iPhone before new iPhone [Jul. 8th, 2008|03:19 pm]
I've been browsing through the AT&T forums and saw someones post suggesting that he could activate an old iPhone prior to July 11th (iPhone 3G release date) under the old iPhone conditions. This would then make him eligible for the fully subsidized iPhone upgrade price.

Anyone want to sell me an old iPhone? I could then give it to Joe when I get the iPhone 3G.

I'm not entirely sure this would work, but it's an interesting idea.

Craigslist [Jul. 8th, 2008|02:34 pm]
(Since my company now blocks LJ, I can't easily respond to replies to my postings. My solution is to just post my response as a new entry.)

Yes, using Craigslist before eBay is a very good idea. I'm not planning to post my old phone until after I get the iPhone, so I have time to look into both selling options.

Still no cheap iPhone for me [Jul. 8th, 2008|02:13 pm]
Just talked with AT&T Wireless Sales. They don't have the ability to change my account to eligible. And I can't buy out my contract without competely closeing my account. If I was willing to do that, I could potentially save $25. The cancellation fee is $175. The cost difference between the full and partially subsidized iPhones is $200.

So oh well. I guess I'm paying $499 for my 16gb iPhone 3G.

On the plus side, I look on eBay and see that people are selling their AT&T 8525s for $150-$300. Though sadly I didn't find any sign of people selling the other old PDA phones that I have, namely the Cingular 8500, Sprint SPH-1300, and Sprint SPH-1330. I don't even know if the old Sprint phones would even work on Sprint's networks anymore.

Hey... does anyone know how I can unlock my AT&T 8525? It looks like the unlocked phones sell for more on eBay and Craigslist.

I tried to work through AT&T to unlock it, but they say they can't. I could pay World of Wireless to unlock it for $69.95, but that seems like it's to much. I guess I'll just post it as a locked phone and let the buyer worry about unlocking it.

No cheap iPhone for me [Jul. 8th, 2008|12:31 pm]
I just talked with the Eden Prairie AT&T store manager, who said that they could not do a forced upgrade on my account to get an iPhone 3G. He said management sent a memo around to state that there are no forced upgrades on iPhones. To do so would get the sales person fired.

Doh!

This afternoon I'm going to explore buying out my contract, to see if that will be any cheaper.

I also want to see if I can get my pile of old PDA phones for sale on eBay. I should be able to get a hundred or two for all of the phones.

Can anyone help me with eBay? I've never sold anything there before.

Gaylaxicon party flyers for Convergence [Jul. 3rd, 2008|09:20 am]
Here is the party flyer that I'll be printing soon to advertise our Saturday party at Gaylaxicon:

http://www.gaylaxicon2009.org/images/pdfs/gaylaxicon_2009_convergence_signs_v3.pdf <http://www.gaylaxicon2009.org/images/pdfs/gaylaxicon_2009_convergence_signs_v3.pdf>

Yeah, I know the text is a little dense. It's less dense now that I've split it into two flyers rather than squeezing both parties onto one sheet. I want the reader to have a brief understanding of what Gaylaxicon is even if they don't make it to either event.

Anything else glaringly wrong?

iPhone rates publish [Jul. 1st, 2008|12:28 pm]
In case you haven't seen this yet on other sites, AT&T Wireless has published a new webpage explaining rate plans and other questions about the new iPhone 3G.

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iphone-info.jsp

I just talked with an AT&T CSR. Here's something interesting, we don't need to change our voice plan when we switch to the iPhone. We have an older voice plan at a great rate and we can keep it, but we do need to change data plans at the $30 rate.

Also, if you are already in the middle of an AT&T contract, the early upgrade price is $399 for the 8GB, and $499 for the 16GB. That is a $200 increase over the basic price. You will also need to sign a new 2 year contract which will extend from the day you buy the new iPhone 3G.

They will offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB at a later date.

I have a letter from a AT&T CSR on June 10 stating that I'm eligble to upgrade to the new iPhone, even though I'm mid-contract. Today's CSR said I should take that letter with me when I go to the AT&T Store to get the iPhone. Hopefully they will honor it.

Goodbye, General Hammond. [Jul. 1st, 2008|12:05 am]
I just saw on Aintitcoolnews.com that Don S. Davis has passed away. He was well known for playing the character of Major General George Hammond on Stargate SG1 for seven years.

This is really sad news. Joe and I have appreciated Davis's acting since his time a Major Briggs on Twin Peaks.

Thank you for the great characters, Don.
