As of this week, I'm changing.
Everything.
So if you liked the old Katie, sorry. I'm shifting to a better person, I promise. You'll like me more when I finally get my shit together and figure out who I really am.
You know how people always say that they're going to do something, book travel, go somewhere, start this habit, quit this habit? I started Sunday, with this:
- New York, NY (LGA - LaGuardia) to Houston, TX (IAH - Intercontinental) on Wed., Aug. 20, 2008 - Houston, TX (IAH - Intercontinental) to Tokyo, Japan (NRT - Narita) on Wed., Aug. 20, 2008
- Tokyo, Japan (NRT - Narita) to Houston, TX (IAH - Intercontinental) on Mon., Sep. 1, 2008 - Houston, TX (IAH - Intercontinental) to New York, NY (LGA - LaGuardia) on Mon., Sep. 1, 2008
Oh, and I'm also climbing Mt. Fuji while I'm there.

2008 is almost half over. Here's what I've done so far:
- Gotten promoted - Started taking 3 ballet classes a week - Found a new apartment with cool flatmates - Started eating slightly healthier
Here's what I still need to do:
- Go to Costa Rica -> Go surfing - Go to Japan - Obtain another raise (6 mo) - Eat even healthier - Find a tap class - Read one book a month till the end of year

So I changed my facebook status sometime on Thursday to "...is starting to get sick," and by end of day, a few coworkers had already commented about it.
On Sunday, I changed my status to "...slept the weekend away, and is feeling a little better but her throat is still scratchy." I talked to two people that night, and both (without any sort of prompting or hints) came out on their own and said that they knew I was sick and hoped that I felt better.
Strange how we now live in a society of twittering and statii (statuses?) changes, where constant updates of your current state (mental, physical or emotional) have become the norm and keeping abreast of these keeps you constantly in the loop.
Just further proof that we truly have entered the information age, where my generation (and the ones after) have a desire and addiction to always knowing what's going on, with daily, hourly or even minute updates.
In other news, no one cares that I got a promotion / raise?!?!?! :p

So, lots has been happening! It's been about three weeks since my last post about electric eels.
1. I got a promotion! Well, sort of. A little bit of an increase on the pay scale, and a completely different role than what I'm used to - I'm moving into Search advertising which is the new hot thing. I'll be working with one of our clients to optimize CPC (cost per click) in online advertising campaigns, and of course some SEO (search engine opitmization). What I'm really interested in is the kickass tool we get to used, and hacking up how to boost natural rankings. This has been an ongoing process for about three months now, and I'm glad it finally came through!
2. I'm still doing my ballet class, and I love it. I go two times a week, and because it's on Monday, it makes the beginning of my workweek totally bearable! Plus, I've made some really cool friends through class, which is I think, the best perk.
3. I've been having a great time in New York, and I really do love living in the city. I'm thinking about heading home in a bit to visit the family, but flights are so pricey.
I think that's just about it...back to work for me!

On my oatmeal packet for tomorrow (Strawberries & Cream):
"Electric eels can produce enough energy in one shock to light up a whole house."
Screw solar power. Why don't we just have eels swimming around in a tank in our basement providing our energy?
Edit: The best part about this - eel sushi anyone? So freaking tasty.
