Confusion about Chapter Thirteen [Feb. 13th, 2008|05:48 pm]
So, apparently chapter thirteen was far more confusing than I realized writing it.  I'll give it a read-through to see if I can't figure out a way to make it clearer, but since Harry doesn't really know what happened (until Vernon explains later)... well, at any rate, I'll take a look at some point.  But any way what happened was:

He was in a potions accident that made him hear magic.

Hogwarts had a lot of magic.

Harry was driven unconscious by the sheer pain of the noise of all the magic around him.

Using magic to try to fix it made it worse.

They sent him to the one nearly-non-magical place they could think of--back home.  He'd been commenting on being homesick anyway.

He woke up already home with only a faint ringing that signified the wards.

He did home-stuff.

Dudley has been meeting new people and connecting in different ways while Harry's been at school, and was finally seeing how his family treated Harry rather than just accepting it.

As for the end, well, I guess that bit can stay unclear for now and become more clear in the next chapter.  Though several people thought that might be the end of the story (Harry died. The end. *giggle*)  No.  He's not dead.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Catechism, Chapter Thirteen: Home Again [Jan. 6th, 2008|04:50 pm]
Thanks: To several of the members of catechismplans (in alphabetical order): amanitajade, Caroline, Laura Peregrine, jaymalea, lauren, margot, Molly Morrison, nicole, Rose, Thursday, and Toastie for their invaluable assistance in helping me get my head around how to make this chapter do everything I wanted it to without it being completely unrealistic. Of them, an especially big thanks to Thursday, for coming up with paint and margot, who fleshed out Clarence. The coach was an amalgam from several suggestions, but it was Laura Peregrine who first put me onto the coach as opposed to teacher idea--thanks! More thanks will be going out when I get to chapters where they helped me with other bits;) And if I missed anyone, my apologies. I know you guys probably thought you and the story both had been abandoned. You weren't. Here's proof. This one's for you guys!

Chapter Thirteen up at ffn: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2006636/13/Catechism (though technically it's still at the point where it's saying it'll be up within 15 minutes. If you're not a fan of ffn, you can also read it here and now. )

Albeit in two posts. Because it's too big:p part two.

Varieties of Undeath notification [Dec. 1st, 2006|09:10 pm]
Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know: If anyone is at any point looking for my BtVS/SERRAted Edge story, Varieties of Undeath, grab it on FFN within the next week or so. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2629658/1/ Apparently Mercedes Lackey has a fanfiction policy that pretty much makes it not okay to even talk about her characters with your friends, so TTH requested that all stories including her stuff be removed. I obey and shall wait for a little while and then remove it from FFN as well.

I've lost a good deal of respect for Ms. Lackey over it (I think the policy both arrogant and paranoid, an unattractive combination), but it's her stuff and if she wants to take people's interest in the characters as theft and debasement rather than flattery and compliments, so be it.

Chapter Twelve Typos [Jun. 29th, 2006|07:32 am]
Okay, I always miss a bit here and there, but this is positively embarassing. I should have edited more before posting, clearly, but probably the same exhaustion that was making me overlook millions of stupid mistakes was probably also making me make stupid decisions-- my excuse is that it was the end of a couple 12-hour shifts, and, as I said, I was not thinking well.

My thanks to Cherry for pointing out typos-- they've been corrected.

Carving Out a Future Review Response [May. 24th, 2006|09:28 pm]
I have finally caught up with review responses. I'm truly sorry for being so abysmal about this guys. Life's been crazy.

Note on chapter length: Again, the chapters are short and that's not going to change. This is partly because I started it for NaNoWriMo, and found that the more I updated the more I wrote, and primarily because I'm writing it for TTH100, which means there will be 100 chapters and there's no way I could do that if each chapter were 5000 words long. Just not gonna happen. So I'm sorry about it, but it's the way it is and it won't change. Plus at this point we haven't yet reached anything that wasn't already written last November, and while I'm doing minor editing, I'm not making dramatic changes. Mostly, at least.

I'm way behind on Cat and Carving responses and am not gonna work on them right now, but wanted to deal with the handful that came in recently for the rest. So!

As always, I'm delighted to hear from you and know your thoughts.

[Feb. 23rd, 2006|07:34 am]
As those of you who have been with me may recall, I had some computer trouble a while back and eventually got it sorted out and a new computer. My bad hardware luck continues to haunt me, however. I went to install a new video card and was rewarded with billowing smoke. With the old video card there's no more smoke and the lights come on-- but nothing happens. So apparently I blew my motherboard. So I'm back on ye olde deathtrap of an ancient computer, and we'll see how long that one holds up.

Carving Out a Future Review Response [Feb. 9th, 2006|09:53 pm]
First off, as always, I'm grateful for the responses! This story was incredibly fun to write (still is, in fact) and it was a bunch of fun getting so much of it done at once. (And to my Cat readers: No. It wouldn't work to try working on Cat in the same way-- believe me, I would've been painfully burnt out and the story would have died a firey death. It's too heavy to rush.) Chapters will continue going up on FFN a bit at a time, but I thought I'd get started on response. And to the marvelous people who reviewed on TTH: I responded directly there rather than here, since they have that handy dandy author response part of the review page.

Before the individual responses, let me state that I'm going to ignore out of hand all complaints as to the length of chapters. It was explained in the first author's note that they were short and the reasons for that were provided. I offer no further apologies. Cope.

japanese-jew: *grin* NaNo was a ball, but definitely not something I could do full time. And while I understand your wish, believe me when I say that there is no way in hell it could have worked with Cat. And I believe the rest of yer questions will be answered as the story continues. And nope, no Zoe/Xander or, in fact, anyone else/Xander. He's gonna stay a lonely bachelor.

Allen Pitt: Well... not exactly. But he does have an interesting first meeting with Mal. Couple more chapters and you'll see it. And, as you say, since Xander didn't get caught up in the Jasmine stuff, he definitely won't see that resemblance.

lunadragon88: *grin* Glad you're enjoying! I found firefly relatively recently myself and fell for it hard. As this shows, I guess!

yeibitchi: Thanks! I'm always glad to get responses on the LJ, too. I cna't remember if I answered your question as to crosses there or not-- if not, I apologize. Things have been hectic. Either way, I haven't seen a whole lot of BtVS/Firefly crosses, but there's a handful. I think the best place to look (that I've seen) is Twisting the Hellmouth. That site is devoted entirely to BtVS crossovers, and if you go into Television and then Firefly (come to think of it, here's the link), there's currently 50 up there. A lot of 'em are pretty short, but there's some neat ones. I'm a bit behind in my reading-- this semester has really cut into my time -- and I can't remember off the top of my head which ones I particularly liked, but that's definitely a good place to start. Good luck!

JennMel: Thanks!

gaul1: Soon to be shown! Enjoy!

enchantedlight: Thanks! ANd updates should be coming fast and furious for a bit.

japanese-jew: *grin* Yup, they are. And yeah, I'm incredibly pissed it was cancelled. Although there's a group of folks tryign to get it going again-- I don't have much hope, but added my name to the survey for the can't-hurt-might-help reasoning. If you choose to do the same: Firefly Season Two.

Allen Pitt: Yep, nicely caught. That will come into it, the Chinese thing... He's been around a bit, so he doesn't react too weirdly to tech, but the language... well...

Tangerine-Alert: *grin* You'll find out abotu the Chinese-- and glad you're enjoying him and it and them together!

JennMel Thanks! I will.

Selene: Glad ya like! And nope, it will remain pair-less. Some mention of canon couples, but nothing more.

japanese-jew: Not even remotely. I have a teensy bit of rapidly deteriorating Japanese, but nothing like mandarin. I've left myself at the mercy of the Firefly-Serenity Chinese Pinyinary, some of them mildly rearranged, but a lot of them lifted straight from the phrase dictionary.

Ryudo: Glad you're enjoying! What happened will come out in time-- hope ya like it when it does!

iscariot: Glad you're enjoying. Jayne's rather fun to write-- which I didn't really expect him to be. And I'm pleased to hear that Xander's feeling IC. Updates will be coming soon.

ashez2ashes: Thanks for letting me know!

banduraqueen: Thanks-- glad you're enjoying. Updates will be coming fairly quickly, at least for a while.

Fanfiction Elimination [Feb. 2nd, 2006|09:26 pm]
Heya, I saw this and thought it was kinda neat-- small time now, but it does seem like something that could grow into rather a cool contest. The concept is that they take 8 fics in various different categories (currently Harry Potter, Crossover, and Other (simply because that's what people have provided), and then once it's all set, they're paired off and people vote on which of each pair they like better. Then the losers go out, and the winners are re-paired amongst each other. And so on, till there's only one-- per category, I believe.

Fanfic Elimination

Anwyay, they's only one HP slot left (Partly my fault, cuz I made two recs, plus Cat got put in when I told a friend about it:) ) but if you've got any favorite crossovers or fanfics in other fandoms, drop 'em off to liven up the competition, and if not you might be interested in voting later on anyway!

Talk ya later,
Avea

Clarification [Jan. 29th, 2006|10:16 am]
Let me clarify since I had at least one comment on the story suggesting I was unclear: The near-tears state of last night had less to do with the story (and nothing with its contents) and more to do with exhaustion and frustration. I'd just spent several hours editing followed by a couple to a few more at responding to comments, all I wanted to do was go to sleep, and ffn had changed their file upload details so that it read them differently than it used to. It's actually easier to use now, I think, but since I wasn't used to it and was not quite at my finest due to fatigue, rather than my usual five minute exercise to get the story up, it took nearly half an hour cuz I couldn't figure out why it kept changing my formatting and it was almost three in the morning and I was tired. Bah.

And then I finally finished and realized I'd forgotten my sheets were in the wash and had never been moved to the dryer:p Not an ideal evening, over all, but at least the chapter got up.

Chapter Eleven [Jan. 29th, 2006|02:43 am]
Well I was nearly in tears when I was trying to get the damn chapter up and ffn apparently decided that they'd change the way you input stories and-- Right. It's up.

I'll do Skyehawke when I do Skyehawke. Now I'm going to sleep. Nothing was supposed to take this long tonight:(

Catechism Review Responses [Jan. 29th, 2006|02:24 am]
Never again. I will never again leave them this long. I just spent like four hours on review response, and I'm so tired I could scream, but I wanted to get responses up before the chapter and the chapter up before I slept, and, and, and... Yeah. This time I'm gonna keep up better. (Yeah, I know you've heard that before. Lemme alone.) Right. I'm thoroughly incapable of communication right now. As always I appreciate all of the feedback. To any of you who are answered later on in this list: I apologize. I was thoroughly exhausted by the time I reached you and probably said nothing worth hearing.
