This Charming Mystery [Feb. 29th, 2008|11:54 am]
{x posted from UndulatingUngulate}

Hey. You can listen to a bunch of songs by my new band This Charming Mystery at our myspace page, which has just gone live. If you are a msypace-enabled person you can add us as a friend and make us look loved.

But yeah. Head on over and have a listen. Tell us what we sound like, because it’s a bit of mystery to me. There’s quite a bit of variety in there. (And for those wondering, it’s a million miles away from what Idle Faction were doing ;) TCM is a mostly instrumental 3 piece doing… well. Go find out :) I am guitars and occasionally vocals when there are vocals.)

I’d recommend maybe Kilimanjaro, Seems That Way, Portobello Road or Monday Morning Traffic to start with. But then I’d recommend all of them…

[By the way, this LJ account is basically not used for blogging any more, just reading and commenting. You can add the LJ feed from my real blog by going to http://syndicated.livejournal.com/undulung_ljfeed/ and adding it as a friend. :) ]

Thanks to wildilocks for setting this up :)

You scored as Captain Jack Sparrow. Roguish,quick-witted, and incredibly lucky, Jack Sparrow is a pirate who sometimes ends up being a hero, against his better judgement. Captain Jack looks out for #1, but he can be counted on (usually) to do the right thing. He has an incredibly persuasive tongue, a mind that borders on genius or insanity, and an incredible talent for getting into trouble and getting out of it. Maybe its brains, maybe its genius, or maybe its just plain luck. Or maybe a mixture of all three.

That's another fine mess you've got me into, Bradley Rose! : A writhing in Upper Hutt [Mar. 8th, 2006|01:41 pm]
So there's a knock on the door. It's raining out, a warm summer rain, and I'm not expecting anyone. So I go down and open the door. A smiling elderly man in a fading suit, a little damp but the light in his eyes keeps him warm. He's partnered with a younger man wearing a shapeless black hoodie and holding a large sack, who shifts from side to side on his feet, and keeps looking off down the driveway like an amphetamine junkie. If he's learning the ropes he really needs to work on his public image.
"Good afternoon. How are you today?" says the elderly man.
I try to head them off at the pass. "Uh. I don't want any."
"We are out today collecting sacrificial victims for Cthulhu." He beams.
It doesn't really register. "Uh, what?"
"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn." he says helpfully.
"Um. Yeah. We're pretty much agnostics here, eh."
I shrug and close the door.

A minute later there's a scratching sound at the door.
I peek through the eyehole. The younger guy is writhing on the ground. There seems to be a large lump on his back. He's just a large dark shape in a hood writhing in some primal animist frenzy. An unearthly growling alternates with a horrific screeching.
The elderly man stands back chanting unintelligible syllables, arms raised in the swirling raindrops.

I stick the chain on and open the door a crack.
"Um. You can leave like a booklet or something if you want. We'll never read it, but, I mean you guys seem to be taking it pretty hard."
The writhing mass lunges for the open door. Startled, I slam it. I look down and stare. Huge severed grey lips are stuck to the door by bloody goo.
Outside the younger guy howls and howls.

The old man steps forward, stands right by the door, and says "Thank you. We'll call again at a more convenient time. Cthulhu devours all!" in a warm friendly tone.

Continue the story, if you like.

the catch 22 of pain [Feb. 22nd, 2006|04:36 pm]
when someone is in too much pain to take the extra painkillers that would maybe reduce the pain which has had them yelling in pain throughout most of the day.

a lot of being a caregiver seems to involve sitting around uselessly.

since i'm here, and that pretty well never happens, anyone who is reading this should check out my actual blog, which is much more interesting and fun.

Oh yeah. After many veiled threats, I have a new blog. Introducing undulating ungulate . (Bookmark it now, saves time.)

Serious content will start appearing sometime after the 3rd draft of the novel is done, and in general there will be much more to the site, but in the meantime I'm playing around a bit. If you've sat through this blog you can probably handle the setting up stages over there.

This means there are no plans for further content in here.

(Unless I just turn it into like a livejournal and fill it full of memes and wot i did while drunk last night and so have you. Bwahaha.)

I feel less sick. Just a dull ache in the backbrain and no energy instead of the temple-throbbing unfocused-thought broken-glass-throat want-to-puke-on-eating no energy thing of the past couple of days. A forcible day off from the various processes I am engaged in, where once again I suddenly realise I have no non-intense hobbies.

satellites [Sep. 8th, 2005|01:36 pm]
Satellites by Jonas Bendikson . Real interesting. A photo-essay-narration thing by a guy who's been travelling around the weird unrecognised and independent states on the southern fringes of the former USSR. Places that fell through the cracks in the world. For those who were at the World Press Photo exhibit earlier in the air, this is the guy who did the photo of the crashed rocket booster and the butterflies... (You'll need flash player to watch it.)

The most interesting thing I've heard from the New Orleans fallout, so far: Refugees at the dome are reporting that the army blew up certain levees intentionally to take out poor sections of town rather than the tourist areas. Multiple witnesses claiming to have heard the explosions...

Another blog is coming. Really. Domain and hosting sorted. Now just have to work out how to make it go, but my friendly geeksultant is busy busy busy...
