Way to hedge your bets (14 May 2008 | 09:29am)
I recently had about 6" cut off my hair, bringing it to just barely shoulder length. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it, which is nice, because I'm still not sure if I like it.

At any rate, we were at the DeVours on Saturday, and I said to Jean and Anne, "Ok, neither of you have noticed that I got my hair cut!"

Jean looked at me and said, "Hey! You got a hair cut and it looks nice, unless I wasn't supposed to notice, in which case, hey, your hair just looks nice!"

Clearly a guy who has been married a long time, him.

Monday, Monday ... (12 May 2008 | 11:26am)
I had a relaxing weekend, which is good, because I don't think this is going to be a relaxing week.

We got together with the DeVours on Saturday - they invited us and the Lekases over for enchiladas. Very nummy! We provided a flourless chocolate-chipotle cake and cinnamon whipped cream - a little spicy for me, but everyone else enjoyed it. Jean made sneakily strong margaritas, and a good time was had by all.

Sunday was Mother's Day - my present was that everyone helped me clean the house and then I went clothes shopping alone. Chris also surprised me with scones for breakfast - very nummy.

All in all, a good weekend. And now it's Monday, and the shenanigans have already begun.

Please, week ... just end (08 May 2008 | 10:18pm)
This week has been ... long.

I think I've been in meetings at least 6 hours every day.

People are sort of driving me nuts.

This weekend I will eat mexican food with friends, clean my house, and sleep until I want to get up. Also there may be waffles.

Blaaargh (01 May 2008 | 01:19pm)
Monday night, Riley was sick. Not as in, "Didn't feel well". As in "exorcist sick". The first time was at midnight, all over his floor. At least it wasn't all over his bed. The second time was at 2am, in the kitchen sink. At least it wasn't the kitchen floor.

The kicker was he had no fever, and Tuesday morning, was chipper and raring to go. Of course, we kept him home from preschool - Chris stayed with him in the morning and I stayed with him in the afternoon. He was fine Tuesday night, and since "no fever + 24 hours since vomiting = can go to school", we let him go yesterday.

No one else seems to have come down with anything, although my stomach has been a little upset since last night. Nothing bad - just a little queasy. We'll just have to see. Hopefully I won't catch whatever he had.

Embarrassing Confession #7 (28 Apr 2008 | 09:52am)
Some of you will not find this shocking. I am apparently the sort of person who spends two full days debating what new set of sheets to buy ... and then another full day debating what coordinating duvet cover to buy ... and then wonders if maybe I picked the wrong colours.

Weekend away (24 Apr 2008 | 02:24pm)
A couple of Chris' friends from work are getting married in Vegas at the end of June. They've invited us, and the fates have conspired to make our attendance possible!

The wedding is during a lull in my big project, so I'm totally free to take the last Friday in June off work. Chris' dad teaches at ULL, but will be done by that time, so his parents are going to come up for a week - we'll get to see them for a bit, and then they'll stay with the kids for the weekend.

So I bought plane tickets yesterday! Well, I used a combination of miles and money to buy tickets. And we decided to splurge and go first class, since it was only $100 more per ticket.

We haven't decided where we're staying. I like the Renaissance - it's smoke-free and Chris gets a corporate discount. We're definitely going to eat a Picasso, though (if they have reservations). And going to see a Cirque show - although we haven't decided which one.

At any rate, it will be a nice break, so I'm quite looking forward to it.

Full weekend! (21 Apr 2008 | 09:18am)
I did no gardening this weekend - partially because there wasn't really an opportunity what with the hail, rain, and snow. But also because we had a lot planned.

Saturday afternoon I took Britt shopping for some new shorts and a skirt - she remains hopeful that summer is just around the corner. Saturday evening we had plans with the Lekases and DeVours - we went to Cremant to celebrate my birthday. It was an outstanding dinner - I loved everything except the casoulette.

Sunday morning I got paged at 7:30 for a work issue, so I dealt with that for about 4 hours. I did manage to get all my laundry (only three loads!) done during the issue, so it wasn't a total loss. And then Sunday evening, we had Brian and Crystal over for dinner and to exchange Christmas presents. Yes, it's 4 months late. We're a busy people.

And now I'm at work, about to head into 3 hours of meetings, and hoping for better weather this week - it's staying light much longer in the evenings and I'd like to get some gardening in after work one day this week.

No spring yet. (17 Apr 2008 | 01:29pm)
I really want to change my LJ layout to my spring one .. but they're predicting *snow* for this weekend, and there's a freezing wind blowing downtown, and clearly it's still January and no one told me.

Tater chips! (16 Apr 2008 | 02:26pm)
I have ketchup potato chips, an appointment to have my brows shaped, and my project requirements are complete - it's a good Wednesday!
