"A West Virginia airport terminal has been evacuated after two bottles tested positive for possible liquid explosives. A bomb-sniffing dog reacted to the containers in a woman's carry-on luggage. .. They have been taken by robot to a remote area for further analysis. .. "It looks like there were four items containing liquids ... two of those containers tested positive." .. Flights were temporarily suspended and about 100 passengers and airport employees were ordered to leave the terminal." - Sky News
If this incident does turn out to be a bomb at least people will have to stop moaning about how unreasonable it is for airports to make them take a supervised sip of their water before going on a plane.
"Police probing an alleged plot to bring down flights have found a suitcase containing items which could be used to construct a bomb, the BBC has learned." - BBC News |

"A terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight from the UK to the US has been disrupted, Scotland Yard has said." - BBC News
"Security at all UK airports has been tightened after an alleged plot to blow up planes in mid-flight from the UK to the US." - BBC News
"The liquid or gel explosive designed to bring down transatlantic passenger jets was going to be hidden in sports drink container, according to reports. [Unconfirmed] television reports in the US say the terror suspects had planned to trigger their devices with a flash from a disposable camera. 'Most people associate explosives with either solid materials or gases,' said Dr Alford. 'You don't expect an explosive to be liquid.'" - Sky News |

| The Heatwave Moves |

"New York is continuing to swelter in a heatwave that has prompted city officials to declare an emergency. The mercury hit 101F (38C) at LaGuardia Airport... An extreme weather front has caused more than 100 deaths over the last week as it drifted across America from California to the East Coast.
In New York, officials are desperate to avoid a repeat of the crippling blackouts suffered in Queens two weeks ago. The lights on the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building have been dimmed so as not to overburden power supplies, and offices have been told to turn down their air-conditioning." - Sky News
We're told that the UK is due for a second bout of the heatwave this month, with temperatures possibly exceeding 40 degrees C. With these sort of serious concerns in the US at the moment we really need to take this time to prepare. I am hoping that the 16" standing fan I'm after will come back in stock soon and I'm now wondering what cheap backup power storage units are available. |

"Britain will continue to sizzle over the next few days - but it will be a degree or two cooler than last week. Temperatures could hit the 34C (93F) mark by the middle of the week before slowly starting to fall. ... There will be no rain in [the South] until Thursday. ... Some [bookmakers] are offering odds on thermometers reaching the 100F mark (37.7 C) for the first time this year." - Sky News
So I have ordered a 16 inch deskfan and a 16" standing fan to arrive tomorrow and replace my current 9" deskfan, just in case we do hit 37 degrees and I totally melt. |

According to Sky News, "At least 33 people have been killed in three separate suicide attacks in Iraq" today, with around 46 people wounded. These are people's lives, being lost every day. In London there are still 62 people in hospital from Thursday's attack. Is there really no way to stop all this worldwide violence.
Edit: I can't help feeling a little nervous about today's date. |

Seem to be up and awake for 6am this morning... I blame this weird, excessively hot weather. In fact its over 24°C again today so I might just have to decide to blame the weather for everything. It was around 28°C yesterday afternoon and I just hope it doesn't do the same thing later on. Looking at my Trillian Pro the forecast 12-8pm looks OTT and it does say it'll reach 26°C at 5pm! Aaarrrggghhh!
So, today I must focus on Creatures... Must. |
