Out during the day?

I was quite shocked to see our midnight hedgehog snuffling around the garden this afternoon. After seeing him through the windows, a little later than usual, at 1am last night I thought he would have been asleep, but no, he was just as energetic as ever. I've never know a hedgehog move so fast.

As you can see I opted to grab the camera for a couple of quick video shots and he didn't seem to to mind at all. The little hedgehog walked straight up to me before deciding to continue on his way to the next house on his route. He is such a cute little creature :)

Just one Syrian?

For some reason I am still remaining hopeful that I will be able to own a hamster some day and have found myself continuing to research Syrian hamsters. Sadly, the female I had seen on Saturday was probably sold on Sunday though. If you wonder why I like the character of these little creatures, I would draw your attention to the following quotes from the hilarious Hamster Tales regarding female hamsters:

The hamster web site had advised: "You must get your hamster used to being handled." This, I found out, was to shorten its response time. At first, when I picked up the hamster, it looked around in a puzzled way, squirmed for a few seconds, and then bit me. By being persistent in handling my pet, I found that no time at all elapsed between my picking it up and it biting me.

Flash, I had already decided, was a female. Baby and one of the others seemed almost certainly males. I was undecided about the fourth baby until it squirmed around and bit me, and I put it into the female bin.

Oh, I really hope this somehow becomes a possibility as I have become rather attached to the idea of caring for a hamster now.
