Subject:Great Sand Dunes National Park - Alamosa, CO
Time:03:24 pm
Last weekend Tanya and I traveled on a Colorado adventure [thanks to my amazing American Airlines travel voucher]. We pulled in roughly 850 miles and visited two different National Parks on my 'to-do' list, all while suffering from high-altitude sickness and non-sleepage. Our first stop was the Great Sand Dunes National Park, containing North America's tallest sand dunes. I think their tag line should be 'the fastest sand carrying winds in North America' or 'don't exfoliate your skin before you come here park'. Enjoy the pics!

About: Great Sand Dunes National Park

View Gallery
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is a United States National Park located in the easternmost parts of Alamosa County and Saguache County, Colorado, United States. Originally designated Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve was created by an act of the United States Congress on September 13, 2004. The park contains the tallest sand dunes in North America, rising about 750 feet (230 m) from the floor of the San Luis Valley on the western base of the Sangre de Cristo Range, covering about 19,000 acres. They are likely 12,000 years old.

Subject:Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve;
Time:11:34 pm
Last weekend I went and visited the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve as everything has been blooming over here in SoCal. I've actually been following their website for the last couple months waiting for the right time to go visit, and now it looks like it's finally hit a peak for the season. As for the reserve, it's a pretty amazing place- quite literally the entire hillsides of the area become an bright orange glob of color. You can probably still catch it for the next couple weeks, you should try to get over there as it's really a remarkable experience.

About: Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

View Gallery
The Antelope Valley California Poppy State Reserve is a state-protected reserve land located in the rural westside of the Antelope Valley in northern Los Angeles County, 15 miles west of Lancaster. The reserve is at an elevation ranging from 2600 to 3000 feet above sea level in the Mojave Desert climate zone. The reserve is administered by California State Parks. The reserve's namesake and protection is based on the state flower, the California poppy. The area is one of the state's most consistent poppy-bearing lands. Other wildflowers within the reserve include the owl's clover, lupine, goldfields, cream cups and coreopsis.

Subject:Venice Beach, California
Time:03:41 pm
So for the last month or so, I've been trying to make it a part of my routine to go out and shoot a new place every week. Mostly this is to get me away from editing photos every day, but I'm also to add to my ever growing stock photo library. With this, I'm going to try and get everyone caught up on the last few places I've been which have been pretty cool I think.

Subject:Aaron and Melinda's Engagement
Time:02:56 pm
It feels like I've been running up to Pasadena a lot lately to shoot couple's engagement shots [which isn't a bad thing, because Pasadena is a gorgeous place]. It's just starting to get hot in LA, and it's in the Summer that I really appreciate living down by the beach- it's just too hot in the valley for my blood. Even still, during the Summer you'll find me out swimming in between working almost on a daily basis. Anyway, so I found myself in the early Summer heat out shooting Aaron and Melinda's engagement shots whom Tanya and I met over by the Playhouse 7 theaters as they're big movie buffs. We also stopped over at Caltech, which is a great scenic campus in the area with a really nice mix of architecture.

Subject:Poor Riley
Time:04:03 am
Our poor little cocker spaniel Riley has had a tough last couple weeks, he had a reoccurring problem common to cocker's called Cherry Eye. I'll spare you the details, but for the brave ones click here- You've been warned, its gross. He has since had great successful surgery, but now his leg is all busted up, we're thinking from playing a little too much rough ball catch. Here is a nice little slide show so you can see how funny he looks with his cone hat.

Subject:Distinctphoto.com is Updated;
Time:02:15 am
Every once in awhile I'll go back and kind of overhaul my sites, and this weekend it was my photo site's turn. I went and added some new photos [mostly to the headshot section, the rest is later] and cleaned everything else up. It's also the last site to be moved over from Dreamhost to Media Temple, which I'm pretty pleased I did rather seamlessly. I'm pretty happy with the new update and it's work a look if you're pretty bored or at work, or both.

Subject:Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea
Time:09:15 pm

I was very pleased to finally pick up the 'Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea' documentary this past weekend- which I must say is completely fantastic. If you know me, you know one of my favorite trips is my once a year trip to the sea where I think I've taken some of my best photos. If you've never been, or you've been and want to learn more/relive the amazingness you should really pick up this disc. You can get it on Amazon, or support the filmmaker and buy it direct.

Subject:Thanks!
Time:08:16 pm
Thank you for everyone who wrote about the whole Seattle thing! The reason Tanya and I are considering moving in a couple years is because 1] we're kinda tired of the desert, and desert themed national parks 2] we can't afford a house in socal, 2 bedroom condos across the street from us are going for 600k 3] there are three great national parks within close driving distance 4] glacier np is within far driving distance. we'll see...i think over the next year we're going to go visit a few times up there and see how we like both portland and seattle, but i think seattle would probably be the easiest transition.

Subject:The Venice Beach Canals, California
Time:10:00 am
I've been trying to continue my little Los Angeles project whenever I can, and the most recent shoot I did was over in the Venice Beach Canals which is a great little side away from the crazy beach scene over there.

Subject:Clothing with Style!

I thought this was pretty funny- Someone decided to use one of my Paris Photos [with credit, thankyou] as a background for their Paris clothing style thing. Actually I'm not quite sure really what it is, but it's pretty amusing.

Time:03:06 pm
Thanks to my beautiful $300 free travel voucher from American Airlines, I'm going to Denver in May and am going to hit up some National Parks that I haven't been to yet...mainly Rocky Mountain National Park and maybe Black Canyon of the Gunnison down south.

Subject:Big Waves in Carmel, California;
Time:03:18 am
On our little 'Central-Coast' California trip to find a Wedding B+B, we stopped over in Carmel and looked at a few places that we could stay in August. In the past I've only been to the Point Lobos area of Carmel, so it was nice to see more of the town [though it's not exactly reflected in the images below]. On the day we we arrived there were some amazingly huge waves, this man was out on the rocks and I was pretty sure he was going to get washed out at any second. He seemed pretty content listening to his iPod while counting the seconds till the tide came in more...

Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

Carmel-by-the-Sea, usually called simply Carmel, is a small town endowed with a rich artistic history situated on the Monterey Peninsula in Monterey County, California. In 1906, the San Francisco Call devoted a full page to the "artists, poets and writers of Carmel-by-the-Sea" and in 1910 it reported that 60 percent of Carmel's houses were built by citizens who were "devoting their lives to work connected to the aesthetic arts."

Subject:Sunset at Point Lobos;
Time:02:23 pm
One of my favorite places is up in Central California by Monterey and is a small little park on the ocean called Point Lobos. I've visited Point Lobos probably a good 7-8 times since I've moved out to California and every time it's always a great treat- especially at sunset.

Point Lobos State Reserve

View Gallery
Point Lobos State Reserve commonly referred to as simply Point Lobos is a sea side state reserve south of Monterey, California, north of Big Sur. The very precipitous drop in the ocean floor off Point Lobos (reaching levels characteristic of the mid Pacific within a few kilometers of shore) gives rise to strange tidal effects, with unusual levels of oxygen being injected into the ocean water. This in turn has attracted an unusual collection of plant and animal life, ranging from high plankton concentrations, moving up the food chain to large mammals.

Subject:The Salton Sea - in Color!;
Time:10:54 pm
Somehow the Salton Sea has put itself on my list of places to visit at least once every year, and every time I come by I think I take better pictures as well as appreciate it's uniqueness more. I even broke down and bought the 'Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea' documentary that I've always been wanting last week. It's a seriously cool place, and if you're anywhere near the SoCal area you really need to go check it out. Here are a few great areas to see when you go down there.

Bombay Beach

View Gallery
Bombay Beach is located on the east shore of the Salton Sea and, like many communities along its shores, has had to contend with rising and falling water levels. A berm now protects the west end of the town but a portion of the town beyond the berm is either sunken under water or is half-buried in mud.

One of the more random places we stayed in Ireland was in Malin Beg. It is a small quaint little area up in picturesque Donegal Ireland. Also in the general area are the 'Largest Sea Cliffs' in Europe, the Slieve League.
