I have to be at the airport @ 4effing30 for check in. Yay for pre-printed passes and no carry-on. Hoping a Starbucks will be open at 5:30 so I can get my meal replacement coffee.
I will be taking and posting pix throughout. Taking a cue from Cris Butcher, here's where to find them:
http://flickr.com/photos/divalea/
I hope no one expects awkwardly posed shots of me grinning next to Darwyn Cooke--I'm gunning for Steve Silver. I'm stoked about seeing Lauren Faust after ten years. (Well, I saw her three years ago, but, get this, I was shy about saying hello.)
For the last time before take-off, here's my signing schedule and fantastic sponsors:
FRIDAY:
Image 2729 for Comic Book Tattoo 1PM
Papercutz 2046, 2048 4PM
I'll be sitting with
kadymae and Ralph at the Eisners
SATURDAY

Staying up all night to get things done. Effed a piece and have to start over.
It's so weird to be at just two full days to flight and know all I have to do is laundry and packing, and my biggest problem at this point is "Will my Penny Boots fit in the carry-on?"

Just a kitten! Take that!
I finally found a new jacket, last store I could've checked, marked down to less than 1/3 of its original price. Beautiful. Hair looks good curled, and I've found a product to minimize the mess the bleached parts of my hair turned into once the split ends were cut off. Got cards in from Lene Taylor of IReadComics, along with some delicious candies.
Also got a box of 50 blank Marvel Masterpieces cards! Yeah, I'm doing some original art cards! Yay!
Zero is doing great! The other cats are getting along with her. Janie treats her like a kitten (cuffings) and a playmate (wild chases across the house). Zero makes the rounds all night and day, curling up with whoever is sleeping. I just melted into a puddle when I saw her curled up with Boy.
Right now, she is a neat little catloaf on my external drive, where she likes to be when I work. She is biting less every day, which is a relief, and we've got her off people food except for treats of ham), and on dog food.
She eats dog food because she hates cat food. Tried to bury it, and she is a most thorough burier. We'll eventually get her to dry like the adults. She's just gotten her other teeth in.
Zero is a real treat. I am so glad she came to us.
I'm suddenly inspired to take a nap...skzzzzzzz.

Let's try one more time: go to the Hyatt bar, or don't. See? Simple.
I'm going to run through the BOOM! party in a bear suit and a pink tiara, then go drink at the hooka bar from a flask full of Ralph's wine, and send my Starbucks receipts to Melissa Manchester.
WIN!
P.S.: And count the number of Dr. Horribles and Captain Hammers at the show. Time permitting, ask how many of them made their costumes since yesterday.

Y'all can FINALLY see a page of my story from Comic Book Tattoo! For recent arrivals, CBT is an anthology of comics inspired by the music of Tori Amos.
An interview with Rantz Hoseley was posted to The Pulse along with more preview art. Click on the picture to read the article and see a larger version of this page from my CBT story, "Ribbons Undone."

Kitten Zero fell asleep on my chest. Heavily. Sometime while she was napping gravity failed, but I was saved from drifting away into space.
Good kitty.

One of my favorite jobs of 2000 (not 2003, it was really eight years ago not five, FAAAHHHHHCCCCK) was drawing "Magical Truthsaying Bastard Spidey" for a fill-in issue of Transmetropolitan. I'm amused and pleased that those pages still generate fanart and comment. Probably because the name is so funny, but I think also because the art was so cute coupled with very wrong things like a trampy nun and liquor with a label shaped like testicles.
And the smoking cat. The three-eyed, two-mouthed cat.
I got it into my head to play with a picture of Kitten Zero and dress her digitally as the Transmet Cat.
Clicking on this pic will take you to the large size, suitable for inexplicable office wallpaper.

Ziggy Zero is doing well indeed. The biting has minimized as she gets enough to eat. As do all kittens, she loves to play. By play I mean run after Jane so that Jane runs away because Jane does not want forced interaction with Zero.
Most of the hissing between the cats has stopped, but Zero never ventures from a room without bottle brushing her tail first.
Zero likes to sleep with people, mainly right by their heads, which I love. Sprocket used to do this, too, and it was companionable and comforting.
TinTIn wants to regress. TinTin wants to be the baby again. She showed this by waking me repeatedly during the night. I got to bed at 10PM, a miracle guaranteed to have me fresh in the morning. BUT NO, can't have nice things, TinTin woke me repeatedly for the first three hours I was in bed. I finally got the squirt bottle at 1AM, and demonstrated my deadly aim. I can't throw or catch a frisbee for shit, but I can hit a cat in the dark and right in the face with a squirt bottle.
This bought me four hours before the "LOVE ME LOVE ME PLEASE LOOOOVE MEEEEE" started up again.
Add on to this that the bed seemed to spontaneously generate bedcrumbs of many shapes and sizes, all itchy, some painful. When it wasn't the cat, it was the one-person presentation of "The Princess and the Pea."
My eyes are uncooperative marbles in my head. They're rolling around like Mad-Eye Moody's magic eye, and independent of each other.
I so need a nap.

The FINISH LINE!
Just $50. to go! I needFOUR THREE ONE more $50. sponsor. You, in turn, get the usual "speaking part/pet/words in Rumble Girls" and assorted goodies, BUT!
You ALSO get (and this is a great deal for companies) me wearing your logo/URL for the day "sponsored by ...." Since I'm coming to promote Comic Book Tattoo (and my plucky ATF comeback) and will be at several signings, parties, and the Big Comic Book Tattoo Panel on Saturday, this is a good chance for some good PR, especially for a company/person that won't otherwise have a presence.
Sponsors so far:

Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls (Lauren Faust's awesome girl team!)
Christy Marx

If you ARE going to be at SDCC, I will wear your booth number. Either way, I'll be walking all over the show, since I won't be holding down a table this year, which means your sponsorship gets all over the place.

Boots was not at the shelter.
We got lost on the way and found three dogs (a Weimaraner, Retriever pup, and a Terrier mix) in an underpass, the Retriever and mutt wrestling in the middle of the road. I thought at first the pups were a dead cat, and then two dead cats, then a dog mauling a dead cat.
The lot were really friendly and sweet, and got into the car with minimal coaxing. It was kind of a gruesome ride, since the dogs were covered in clots of ticks.
Since we were going to the shelter anyway, it seemed like the thing to do.
Three hours later, I had missed a doctor's appointment, we had turned in the dogs, and found a kitten in the parking lot. I would've turned her in, too, but after two hours to turn in the dogs, I said "fuck it" and brought her home with us.
Here they are.
L to R: Eggs, Bacon and Hashbrown and Boy:

This is Zero, because you add a zero after a number and it multiplies by a factor of ten.

Right. I'm walking the hall for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I have no table, and thank goodness. I haven't walked the show in ten years..
Saturday will be Comic Book Tattoo stuff in the middle of the day. No doubt other things will come up.
BUT I really don't want to miss anything cool since I have an opportunity for the first time in a decade to visit Artist's Alley and Small Press. I want to see stuff.
You can post here (posts will be screened, so DON'T BE SHY) and give me your booth number. Even if I know you, POST. I'm making a master list of places to hit, and I want you on it.
I can't promise any critiques, and I don't want to spoil anyone's weekend with them, anyway.
If you're amenable, I will post the list of booth numbers here for others to use.
Go!

For truly bleak manga news, here’s T Campbell via e-mail, describing information received from Tokyopop director of new product development Jeremy Ross:
The relinquishment of rights by Tokyopop is an unfortunate hoax, a rumor that got blown out of proportion, with no basis in reality beyond Tokyopop’s cutback in production. Tokyopop made no statements indicating they would do this.Oh, how I could take "unfortunate hoax" and run with it, but there's comics to be done.

I drew a comic of my younger self talking to my older self, ala' the criminally wonderful and funny Kate Beaton. (Who apparently threw down and chellenged other people to do it, too.) My comic is pretty funny. Funny enough to inspire second one.
I have to tighten it up, and I will post it tomorrow.
Douchebag mom at pool freaking because Boy spits pool water at her kid. She was awesome because she inspired a NEW RULE!
"If you know I'm his mom, and you stand ten feet away and speak loudly so I hear you disapproving, I will no longer engage you and be the apologetic autism mom. I'm going to pretend like I don't hear you.
If I'm especially perverse that day, I will say, 'Oh my gosh! Was some kid picking on yours?' And you will say, 'Yours was!' And I will say, 'Oh, okay. I thought it was my kid. Sorry to butt in.'
If you're going to judge, I might as well have the fun of fitting your verdict.
DivaLea Video Show got stopped twice because of Flock AND FF3 crashing. UStream, HOWEVER, saved the streams by default, so the show is there! Yay! I even had enough people in that there was a scroll bar in the user list!
That's Wednesday, and it's 1AM Thursday. I going bed.
