I hate having to look for a new band. So much of it is basically because I love my job, I love my life, and my wife is my first priority, I'm not looking to tour, shop for a record label to screw me over, etc. Pretty much every band I talk to want to 'Go all the way" (don't we all?) and that basically means 'drop everything for the band'. I just want to play, have fun, and make a little extra cash.
sigh. |

Anyone looking for a roomate for the upcoming school year? I know someone who is starting her first year at the U of L in the New Media program who has yet to find a place to live. |

Who likes to draw? Anyone who would like to draw something for me, I'd love to see your ideas. I'm looking for a compass or compass rose with points extending further to the east and west. The exact style is up to you, however I'm very interested in seeing your takes. |

Julia and I were driving around, listening to music having the 'this band sounds like that', 'this guitarist sounds like that' discussion. Julia then says "If I ever started a band, I'd call it 'Everything Sounds Like Everyone'."
I nearly died, it was so funny.
It also is perhaps the best idea for a band name. Ever. |

So, for those of you that don't know, I'm in a band now called Face First. We actually did our first gig together when Dino came up to Edmonton, so that was a slice of fried gold. Well, we also competed in the Kokanee Freeride battle of the bands and WON! Because of this, we won a bunch of money, accomodations in Jasper, we play before Social Code on the hill at Marmot Basin, headline at Pete's Place in Jasper that night, and we'll also be opening up for Social Code at the Urban Lounge a few days after that (appearantly).
Good times! |

So, I was taking my laundry downstairs today and, without realizing I had left my keys on the bed when I changed out of my pants to wash them...I did the habitual 'lock the door' motion and closed the door. Crap.
Well, at the very least I put the laundry in to save some time. I then contemplated my next action as I was in a pair of denim shorts, a t shirt, socks, with it being -2 outside with 4 inches of fresh, wet, melting snow. I had no phone, etc.
An hour earlier I had helped a friend move in to his new condo, conveniently 2 blocks away. So, I steeled myself, and jogged through this sloppy, wet snow in my socks to his place, where another friend was able to give me a ride to Juila's work on Whyte ave (with a borrowed pair of shoes) to get the apt. keys then back home.
I was first upset, but think about these small blessings that turned into one big one: - I knew my friend was home - my friend was close - it wasn't that cold outside - his shoes fit me enough to be able to get the keys - another friend was able to give me a ride |

Alberta has the hottest economy in the country, how is this being passed down to the average person? Have we seen a significant difference in our taxes? No. Have we seen the government willing to do anything about skyrocketing rents? No. Will the current government impose a rent cap? No. Has the PC government specifically refused to institute a rent cap? Yes. Have living expenses exploded with the 'hot economy'? Yes. Is having a red-hot economy benefiting average people at all? No. Are there 'jobs a plenty' in Alberta? Yes. Do these plentiful jobs pay well enough to make up for the living expenses? No, unless you're working in the oil field. When a two-bedroom house that 2 years ago cost 200,000 now costs close to a half million dollars, there is a problem. When banks and mortgage companies are approving mortgages with no down payments and are 40 years long, there is a problem. When 'interest only' mortgages are offered where you pay the interest on the mortgage for the rest of your life and when you die, the bank still owns your house/apartment, there is a problem.
It's sad to think that at the current rate, I'll likely never be able to afford a house. |

As per my resolution several years ago, I have decided to email all of the candidates running for my constituency and ask them why I should vote for them. I like seeing what accountability there is out there, and what the actual candidates believe for themselves, not how they would respond to MY beliefs. Feel free to do the same and post the answers, as I sure will. (with permission of course)
Template: Hello,
My name is Degan Richards and several years ago, I decided to start actually asking the candidates why I should vote for them. Too often the candidates simply either tow the party line, or tell the voter what the candidate thinks the voter wants to hear. I would like Mr/Ms.______, or an appropriate rep, to tell me what THEY believe and what THEY stand for. Please, convince me.
Thanks for your time.
Sincerely, Degan Richards |
