Fantastic: now my laptop isn't holding a charge.

Technology (and life generally) hates me.

And if you were curious about what I look like on a good day, when I'm not oozing and festering in my own squalor: I posted this a couple of weeks ago. Um, so you're not under the impression that I'm always this gross.

And now I'm going back to bed!

So, like I said, I had my surgery done yesterday. ( gory details! like, really gross. )

And now I'm going back to sleep. When I come back, maybe I'll post a gross picture. yay!

I was just chatted up on the subway by an 18-year-old kid (or so) who didn't even notice I had a black eye until I pointed it out to him.

Anyone any good at this whole technology thing? For whatever reason, my tech-fu is totally failing me in getting Vuze un-firewalled. I've opened the port on my router and actually disabled the firewall on my internet security out of sheer frustration (PC-Cillin 2008) (though I had also allowed it to access the port, when the firewall was still on), and still no dice.

I'm, uh, downloading things (like -- comics. don't ask.) to get me through my impending hospital stay and I'm topping out at 3k/s and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY.

Help a girl out?

No fucking surgery today, either. My doctor is supposed to call later today to schedule it, and it could be any time in the next week if I'm lucky. My status on facebook pretty aptly sums up how I'm feeling:

Victoria is going to have a titanium plate screwed into her face! yay!

And sometimes it's sarcastic, and sometimes it's not. How does that sound for a bling skull?

The bad news is that it might take up to six months for the feeling to return to my face. ugh.

Ugh. Now that the swelling has gone down, it's really obvious just how far my cheekbone has been depressed. I don't have hugely prominent cheekbones or anything, but they are pretty high (it's those Slavic genes) and now this one is just... not. There's a visible dent under my eye. Moreover, there's a popped blood vessel in my eye (in addition to the blood from the abrasions on my eyelid) and my entire eye socket has swelled up. Also, still no sensation in part of my face, although it is tingling in a reassuring way.

The up side is that someone has agreed to cover my tutorials on Tuesday! Yay!

Thank you so much for all the kind words, everyone. I'm still in a tremendous amount of pain, I haven't regained total feeling in my face, and I am now BLEEDING INTO MY EYE, but the black eye has healed a surprising amount overnight, and obviously the drugs are helping a lot.

Also, just to expand: the accident was totally my own fault, and although I'm not sure it would have helped anyway, I wasn't wearing a helmet. I was biking through the park, trying to get off the grass and back onto the path, and the front wheel hit the pavement at a bad angle, skidded, and I was thrown off my bike. I didn't lose consciousness, I'm not concussed, and I'm not injured anywhere else, so even though I'm a fucking moron, I am pretty lucky. I think most of the damage was caused by my sunglasses getting smashed into my face.

However, I will have to have surgery, probably on Thursday. One of the fractures has depressed my cheekbone, such that it is cosmetically noticeable but also pinching a nerve in my face. So that needs to be popped back out. The other one is beside my eye, and while it's not doing much at the moment, there's a chance it could affect my vision; so they may have to do something there too. Unfortunately for me, I was supposed to be giving a presentation on masculinity in Old Regime France on Thursday, and handing in my final paper in the same course. Obviously, that's not going to happen now, but given that Thursday is the end of that course, I'm somewhat concerned that rather than getting an extension, I may be forced to withdraw. Which really fucking sucks, obviously.

Nine hours in the ER. My cheekbone is fractured in two places, I have no sensation in my right upper lip or the right half of my nose, I have a black eye, and my eyelid is abraded to hell. I need surgery to pop my cheekbone back out, but I have to wait until the swelling goes down.

Kids, always wear your helmet. I don't even know.
