orpie - RPN calculator for the terminal
orpie is a console calculator application based on the ncurses library. It behaves roughly like some of the more popular RPN calculators available on the market today, but data entry has been optimized for efficiency on a PC keyboard. Some of the primary features are:

  • Reverse Polish Notation

  • A visible data stack

  • Extensive scientific calculator functionality

  • Extensive stack manipulation functionality

  • Configurable keymapping

  • Small memory footprint

  • Low CPU usage

  • Speedy to use

  • Your coworkers won't know how to use it

orpie used to be called rpc when is was still a C++ program.

Sorry everyone. I've been getting a little spaced out lately. Leandro L. P. suggested orpie.
I really prefer RPN calculators, but everytime I try to use "dc" I have to learn it again. So I discovered Orpie. Orpie is a RPN calculator with help and the stack nicely presented in its full-screen curses interface. Anyone that has ever used a HP will feel right at home with it.

So far, I really like it. But it's been a challange to make it a habit. Maybe I should just alias bc and dc to orpie.

More information on this package can be found on the Debian web site.

Now available in RSS and ATOM flavors too.

I love RPN calculators too, especially my hp48. So I built something similar to use on my linux desktop and PDA. It pales compared to the hp48, but it has at least the basics and 60 or so functions:

This is a shot of it running on an ipaq:

It's not a debian package yet, though. :(
