7:58 pm - Hilarious booze warnings from the nanny state

Apart from saying that you should drink less than 2 cans a day, this can of cider now also sports a fetching 1cm high NO PREGNANT WOMEN symbol.

Thankyou, new labour! That's sure to save lives!

3:26 pm - In the car, on the way to devon

Driving to devon to see the relatives and the seaside for a few days. Stopping at exeter for the afternoon, then off to budleigh!

8:32 am - epic win
The Scottish National Party has pulled off a stunning by-election victory by winning Glasgow East, one of Labour's safest seats by 365 votes.

... but more importantly, the BBC article describes this as an "epic win".

politics lulz!

11:52 pm - comments?
Among many other projects, I'm lending my production ear to a friend on this instrumental track.

I don't normally ask for comments on my stuff as I'm a reet touchy bastard, but I wouldn't mind hearing what people have to say about this particular one (I didn't write it, so I don't mind! haha!)

So, yeah, hope you like, but if you have anything to say on it, drop me a comment.

Thanks!

I know you can do this with Google Mail Notifier / Google Talk, but I don't want to install them. I like this. :)

1:28 am - logic
Is it just me that finds it odd when people quote the simplest interpretation of Occam's razor for explanations of a situation as a solid, perfect rule, not a helpful heuristic?

Excusable in TeeVee land (I seem to recall it being quoted in Contact in a court room as fact?) but it seems to have seeped increasingly into the lexicon of people who like simple answers, instead of requiring correct ones.

Hmph. Maybe it's me that's simple. I don't know if my brain works right these days.

2:33 pm - It's all gone a bit Jerry Springer
Yeah, I know that online petitions are a rather minimal way of expressing your opinions on something these days buuuuut this tickled my fancy...

In response to this weak attempt to dodge justice, there is now:

We the undersigned call upon Mark Thompson of the BBC and Jonathan Thoday of Avalon to insist the £90,000 costs awarded to them against Stephen Green in the Jerry Springer the Opera case are paid in full.

[Petition] [Facebook group to bring attention to petition]

Back story: Man causes great kerfuffle about Jerry Springer the Opera, on blasphemy grounds, causing, along the way, massive financial losses and a wave of death threats against (among others) one of my favourite comedians of all time, Stewart Lee.

So, having lost, there was an attempt at a petition to induce Mark Thompson of the BBC and Jonathan Thoday of Avalon to waive the costs awarded to them - which has already been heavily hijacked by people using it to leave opposing comments (ho ho ho).

So, yeah, I do think that if you bring court action like that, and lose, you ought to pay the price. If that would bankrupt you, you obviously should either have abstained from litigation, or have the courage of your convictions. Tough break, hate-monkey.

[edit]: I confusingly pasted the wrong paragraph to begin with. I'm in favour of the petition that insists the costs are PAID. Doh.

4:16 pm - Onjoy: plug
My friend, [info]pixie_fae has set up a community called [info]onjoy to gather feedback about an adult toys website she's working on.

As a reward for people taking a little time using the site and returning bug info / suggestions, there are a mixture of freebies and money-off vouchers available each week.

If you're in the market for, or regularly buy lingerie / toys / etc, you could probably save a few quid and do her a favour while you're at it... ta!

A bit repetitive, I know, but I think I was 17 when I did this :) ('94, I think - I dispute discogs, as I went to uni in '95, and this was while I was in 6th form)

Hilariously, I also wrote tracks #3, #7, #10, #11, #15, #18 and #19 (the cheesier of which, at the behest of my label) on Illegal Jungle 1, under different names so my boss at the time could sell it to Cookie Jar as a compilation album while only having to buy half an album's worth of tracks. Yes, I have the CD inlay with "Scott Lamb" on the credits to prove.

I'd apologise to Edie Brickell, but I never thought much of her, to be honest. My dad suggested and provided the track on the basis that it had a nice, clean, exposed section to rip a sample or three out of.

To avoid paying up or being sued, we had the vocals resung by a Birmingham session singer lass called Judy Hayward, who I only met on the day, and remember as having nice (by which, I mean prominent) tits.

If I remember correctly, one of the breaks is from The Dark Stranger, another from Scottie the slower synth stab is from Mentasm, and the bassline is a sinewave from an Akai S1000

Originally written on an Amiga in Octamed, then remade in the midi room at Ritch Bitch Studios (Birmingham) on an ST with Cubase and an Akai S1000.

4:45 pm - Wikipolitics
Hurrah!

Some wikipedian found Line Out Records, then decided to flag it for erasure as non-notable...

Then they went after the artists listed on the label (Including us, of course) How kind!

And, since being mentioned in the course of deletion arguments, rather than supposing that possibly, Wasp Factory might be another cog in a number of arguably notable bands / labels / relationships within our scene, they've flagged Wasp Factory for deletion, too.

Joy.

I don't edit Wikipedia pages pertaining to me or my work, and I don't want to cry "RELEASE THE HOUNDS!" - but if you know your Wikipedia, and could help out, it'd be appreciated.

Things that may or may not assist in notability for DeathBoy at least, include:

* Featured on PGR 3 for X-Box 360, which I know has been mentioned before, but it's worth a second mention because it was a release-title on that platform and sold over a million world-wide. That's akin to being on an admittedly large, but platinum-disc compilation CD.

* Little known: a DeathBoy track is featured on the credits of Action Man for Playstation 1. Trufax. I don't have sales figures for that, but the game did well.

* Anuism by DeathBoy, featuring Mog Xykogen has been featured twice on Eve TV [snippet][mention]

Featured on the (admittedly small) web game "Bat out of Hell" via Neolicious - this is barely notable in of itself, but I'm trying to demonstrate a case for "we get about a fair bit".

We've supported acts like Gary Numan, Rico, Sheep on Drugs, Icon of Coil, Mesh, This Morn Omina, Cruxshadows, Je$us Loves Amerika, Inkubus Sukkubus and Bella Morte, played Whitby twice and festivals abroad a few times.

I provided a remix for the I:Scintilla album, Optics, which (the album) enjoyed some chart success in Germany.

We've worked with Rico and John Fryer (notable in themselves, but don't know if that drags our notability up at all).

---

If the general opinion is simply "sorry, mate, you're none of you arguably notable", that's fair enough. What's bugging me is not the prospect of losing an ego-stroking page in wikipedia, but that someone's response to attempts to prove notability by linking to others has led to an enthusiastic witch-hunt. "Hurrah, more articles for the bonfire! Purge the UK industrialists!"

It's possible I just don't get wikipedia. I like it, but I never create content, I'm aware there's a whole culture I don't delve into.

[edit]: Is it bad form to hoi up to your own deletion page and say "fuck it, put us out of our misery"? ;)
