fic up -- spavid 3
Ran out of time to post properly here, but chapter 3 of What You Want is up at FFnet and the Refuge. Will post here for continuity's sake, erm, someday . . . .

P.S. Saw [info]clio21000 yesterday. LOVE her. We definitely ended up singing along to CTB in my car -- even sang the A and B counterpoint parts. We're exactly that awesome.

scarce
Not that I've been all about the LJ posting lately, but here's my official notice to fandom and friends that I'll be scarce around these parts for the next week or so. Tomorrow I am at liberty as of 1600 hours and shipping out to wilds of the upper Midwest, and God only knows if there will be regular internet access, or any at all. Plus there's the 18 hours in the car it'll take to get there (yes, just get there -- but I'm kind of excited about that, too; I heart roadtrips). Aside from that, I'm way excited. WAY excited. And on top of that excitement there's the fact that I'll be meeting up with [info]clio21000 which is the sweet lickable icing on the top of a chocolatey cake of awesomeness.

Okay, just quick -- know why I haven't been posting to LJ?

Have a happy week everybody!

fic up -- spavid 2
Title: What You Want
Pairing(s): Spavid
Summary: Jack wants a future. David wants what he can't have. Spot knows you never get what you want unless you take it.
Warnings: Unending angst. Slight smut.
Disclaimer: No worries, Disney. I make no money off this stuff.
Author's Note: [info]mosephy's prompt appears in this chapter.* Many thanks for the reads and happy reviews.

*Her request was "I wouldn't mind Spot assuring David that he could have him flat on his back (or something) in three seconds if it suited him. While smoking."

fic up -- spavid 1
Title: What You Want
Pairing(s): Spavid
Summary: Jack wants a future. David wants what he can't have. Spot knows you never get what you want unless you take it.
Warnings: Unending angst. Eventual smut.
Disclaimer: No worries, Disney. I make no money off this stuff.
Author's Note: This idea has been half-formed since writing a small spot of Spavid last summer. I thank [info]mosephy for  prompting me the line that broke the story wide open, [info]polyesterrage and [info]queenitsy for poking me to write this unconventional pairing, and D for her unflagging support.

In my mind, all Spavid starts with Javid, so that is where we begin.

By the by, there is a total of six chapters planned for this fic, and all will be posted concurrently here, at the Refuge, and on FFnet.

study up
 A list meme from [info]lielabell.

This is inspired by the Big Read meme going around that prompts people to select 'classic' books from a list that they have read. With that in mind, I'd like you to list the ten books that have had the most influence on YOU, personally. It doesn't matter whether or not they're classics, adult books or YA. This meme is not asking you to be a literary critic. These are the books that have made an impression on you, that stay in your mind, that have had an impact on your life. The books that taught you how to write, that molded your ideas about life and love. The books that you *always* have a copy of on your bookshelf, and invariably read until the binding is falling apart.

In no particular order:

1. How to be Alone by Jonathan Franzen
2. Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein
3. Evidence of Things Unseen by Marianne Wiggins
4. Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
5. American Dreams Lost and Found  by Studs Terkel
6. A Separate Peace by John Knowles
7. Anne of Green Gables series by L. M. Montgomery
8. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi
9. All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren
10. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T. S. Eliot (poems count, yeah?)

Last week I finished Black Swan Green by David Mitchell. It didn't make the official list because I only just discovered it, but I've fallen in love with both Mitchell and his semi-autobiographical thirteen-year-old self, Jason Taylor. That book will never leave me.

spavid drabbles
Spavid has officially become The Pairing That Ate My Brain.

[info]polyesterrage asked for a drabble of David and Spot at prom. So I wrote her 100 words of David and Spot (kinda) at prom. But then the idea wouldn't let go and I was forced to write two consecutive follow-up drabbles. And although I haven't a bloomin' clue as to why I spent so much time on this little project, I feel it produced decent enough results, so I'm posting the series here.

And heck, while I'm here, I'll toss this up, too. [info]lielabell asked for a Javidy threesome drabble. The results surprised the hell out of even me.

So, the thing is, I personally don't even really dig the mental image of Spavid. It weirds me out a little bit, especially given my staunch belief in Javid. But I can't stop it from creeping through my subconscious and into my writing. (You know what I think the fascination is? I think on some level I like that it frells with my OTP...)

story meme
Jumped on this evening's bandwagon! Stolen from [info]queenitsy and [info]falco_conlon.

Ask me a question about one of my fanfics. It can be absolutely anything in any fic and I will tell you the honest-to-god answer. Don’t hold back. Ask about major upcoming plot points if you want to. Whatever you ask, I have to answer truthfully. (If it's a fic I only sent *you* you may still ask about it.)

And...

Ask my characters a question! You can ask any question to any character from any fic, and they will respond. Just specify which fic and who you want to answer the question.

And...

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

My repertoire might be small, but I guarantee to make it worth your while! Ask anything about a oneshot or a drabble or if you've heard me mention something upcoming . . .

somewhat disappointed . . .
So, I've been kind of ridiculously excited about the new Indiana Jones movie. Like, really totally fangirling-the-trailers excited.

And I just saw it. And ... and ... there are just no good words ....

Steven Spielberg, why you gotta break my heart? Why don't you know how to direct your own movies anymore? (Here's a hint: if the formula's worked for 20+ years, don't change it.)

s.w.a.k.
Two hours later, I'm just waking up from that twenty-minute power nap I laid down for.  O.o  blurgh. I'll so be paying for this in about two or three hours. Or maybe not, seeing as I still have that loopy-underwater feeling going on. Maybe I should just call it quits and go to bed for real? But no, there is fandom to be carried out. I must persevere.

So here's the deal. The rabid fangirl in me has reared up from the depths of my typically sane soul, and is demanding Javid. Absolutely craving  it. I've already exhausted my usual stores of tasty Javid tidbits and she still wants more. I've tried feeding her some Javid of my own devising, but she's too impatient and refuses to sit though the requisite before-story simmer. And so I plead with you, dear flist, to help me sate this demon.

Got any unpublished Jack/David floating around your hard drive? Know of any old gems I may have overlooked? Have any fic of your own you'd like to see another review for? (I'm good for one, I promise!) Want to share your favorite Javid scene/line/moment/memory? Please, I beg you. Promote, premier, pimp, ponder anything. Need not be smut. Need not be fluff. Need not be new. Need not be slash -- oh wait, scratch that. Yes, yes it does have to be at least kinda slashy. (It also need not be immediate -- can't think of or find something? Trust me, I'll want what you have just as much tomorrow (or in three days) as I do right now.)

This may not work, I know. But dear god I hope it does. Anyone? Anyone? Help!

shuffle
Because she so politely "suggested" I do this, here's my variation on a meme from [info]polyesterrage. (Check hers out, too. She's got great Sprace.)

Song Shuffle Drabble Meme
1.Pick out a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2.Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3.Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4.Do ten of these, and then post them.

These were my reward for finishing chapter 11 of S&F, my warm-up for the Refuge birthday fic I have outlined, and my procrastination technique for beta responsibilities. (Don't worry, girls, it will all get done soon!)

sex appeal II
Meme a la [info]clio21000

Inspired by the recent "which fictional characters would you sleep with" meme - name ten fictional characters of the sex/gender opposite the one you're usually attracted to (i.e., if you're a mostly straight female, name ten females, if you're a mostly straight male, name ten males, and so on) who you would sleep with.

You know what made this one harder? It wasn't a lack of women I find attractive, it was the lack of female characters I identify with/find intriguing enough. Is that a comment on our society or my attention span?

These are in no particular order, by the way.

Okay, kids. There are a darling few of you who are excellently and exceedingly patient while waiting for me to get my ass in gear and update Sharps & Flats like a decent fanfic author should. Because I appreciate your continued enthusiasm and support, this one's for you guys.

Um, there is one small spoiler. Just, so's you know. And this hasn't been beta'd because, well, my beta is drowning in academia at the moment . . .

Rest assured, the rest is soon to follow. I'm so sorry about the huge gaps between updates -- real life can be so annoyingly demanding sometimes. For months on end, even. Imagine!

Damn, it's good be a fangirl.
