So ever since the new anime has gotten the green light, we've seen a variety of fan reactions to the news -- everything from ecstatic howls to horrified screams. The current speculation is that the new series would be a more faithful adaptation of Arakawa's original manga story, based on the fact that the promo materials for the announcement have all been images taken directly from the manga. I can understand when people say they are a bit sad to contemplate this...the two storylines differ vastly in both plot and characterization, and it's very true that those of us who did like the first anime may be sad to say goodbye to that particular verse. Some of the arguments against it, though, have kind of perplexed me. I guess my reactions have gone as follows:

"IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD! Now EdWin/RoyAi/MeYourMom WILL BE CANON, and everyone will hate my favorite noncanon ship RoyEd/EdAl/WinryDen!"

- As if any of our slash pairings have ever been 'canon' :) While it's true that the first anime had a lot more ambiguity regarding pairings (and the movie some out and out fan-fodder for gay ones, *coughcoughemomovieRoyI'mlookingatyou*), ultimately most pairings arise because of fan interest and fan creativity. If you are the type of person to only enjoy a pairing when it is endorsed by the creator, that's your perogative...but that shouldn't preclude other people enjoying their own silly creations, be they RoyEd or uh, RoyEd zoofic XD

"IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD! The fandom will get bigger again, and there will be lots of new fans and they will be STOOPID."

- There are also lots of potential new fans who are really talented authors/artists whom you haven't met yet. (And in any fandom, there are also always lots of old fans who are 'stupid' XD) On the internet, you and your buddies can be as welcoming or as xenophobic as you want, if that's what you choose...form your own closed community and ignore the people you dislike. And personally, I'm excited to consider any new fans a new anime might draw in -- the more the merrier, the more the merchandising, the more fun I get to have chatting about the series with people ;)

"IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD! I loved the first series so much nothing can ever compare and now it will be forgotten forever ;-;"

- Except by those who also loved it to death, like me (and many others out there). It's possible to enjoy multiple incarnations of a series -- look at the Tenchi fans who enjoy both the OVA and the TV series, or the gundam fans who love all of its various incarnations. And if your heart really and truly is broken, no one is forcing you to watch the new series anyway. Again - that's where the internet is great...find your anime one-only buddies and roll with that :)

I guess, at the end of the day: it's only fandom. None of what we do is ever endorsed by the series's creator, so we might as well hang out, chill out, and have fun with those who are like-minded :)

A/N: Huzzah! After about the 2902293 rewrite, I discovered why this chapter sucked: I had completely forgotten my canon f^^; For those interested, the jump-off point in this fic is more or less right after Alfons's fight with Ed at 1:02:59. Knowing this, I can now solidly forge ahead with the real plot XD Starting at er, 2 in the morning when I get up for work at 5.

In conclusion: AHAHAHAHA I POST THRAD!

Same as last year - time to April Fools' everybody else :) The idea is that you request a fic with a short prompt, and then others will claim those prompts...and attempt to joke around with you as much as possible. So for example, "Ed and Roy, fluff, feathers" might result in a 'pillow fight' normally...in the April Fools' world, someone gets comforted after being tarred and feathered ;) Really, the sky is the limit! The only rule is no utterly nasty stuff (scat, etc) and if you make a request you MUST fulfill a request -- only fair :)

In honor of the holidays, I am reopening the DRABBLE MEME...wherein you provide me with a pairing or word prompt (or both), and I try to give you a short drabble to the best of my ability :) I will see if I can post at least one a day from now til Christmas, as a present to all of you awesome people out there XD (And hey, occasionally these things balloon into much bigger fics in my head ;)

What would YOU like for Christmas this year?

Okay, LJ has finally come up with a solution I find palatable - which is that journal owners are now able to mark content as 'adult' so that only those with profile birthdates marking them over 18 ('adult' in the United States where LJ's servers are located) are able to see adult content. Hence, I am going to be unlocking all my adult content from friends-lock, and instead I will be flagging it as 'adult'. I would encourage those who would like to see it to note that while this does mean you would need to provide your birthdate to LJ, there is no requirement by LJ that you have your birthdate on display in your profile -- you may select an option in your profile page which hides it from the general public. I consider this an improvement on the status quo; normally in order to friend you back, I go on a hunt to find your birthdate. Now you don't have to have me asking how old you are XD

[BIG EDIT: HOWEVER, if you are interested in translations, you must still friend me. The reason for this is that translations I provide, I would prefer to keep on low distro. So if you're here for translations, please do still friend me and let me know, or you won't see any ;) ]

WARNINGS: This is I think the best chapter of any fic I have written to date. The fic is also increasingly filled with strife (not meaning character death, briny, that part is okay). What I will say about it is that (in case it has not become obvious by now): Ed is a very biased observer ;)
