Giving Fan Fiction Its Head
The BBC’s Torchwood: sci-fi where everyone’s bi and hot guys cry
. The article is slightly annoying but the comments are purest treasure. The author can't seem to decide what his attitude to fanfiction is.

I believe I got the link from [info]torchwood_three.

By any chance, is there a list of cross-fandom Regency AUs?

I kind of love Rex: "The fact a 7-year-old can wreak so much havoc in such a short time, it's unbelievable. In my day he'd get a big boot up the arse," center director Rex Neindorf told Reuters by phone. What a little terror.

One would be inclined, though, to ask Rex how the boy got into the crocodile enclosure.

Here's a link to an extremely large picture of my favorite lizard, the gentle, small and gorgeous Moloch horridus, the Thorny Devil.

Tell me, wise internet, is it possible to sign out of Amazon.com?

EDIT: The answer, thanks to [info]jekesta, is yes; the link is the one that says 'Not YOURNAME?'

OTW
Say hello to the beta Archive of Our Own

Read more about where it's up to, what you can do, what features are currently available and what are still in the works, how you can give feedback and help us test that puppy right here.

So, in the past three weeks:
Transformative Works and Cultures
Fanlore Wiki
New improved website with news blog and comment feature (and big red Donate Now button <---)
Beta Archive of Our Own

Congratulations to all OTW board, committees and volunteers. Congratulations particularly the coders and testers who have been working like demons to make things and to break them and make them good again.

I'd also like to give a very big bouquet to all those who worked on policies and Terms of Service documents for the projects and a thank you to everyone who responded to public posts requesting feedback on them. A lot and I mean a lot"" of thought, consideration, debate and consulting went on to get these right, to get them meaningful for fans and fan use of these sites, to be something that can be called 'of our own'.

The biggest thank you to Development and Membership Committee who bring joy and tentacles to philanthropy and make volunteering easy.

On top of all that OTW's 501(c)3 status was approved and USians donations and memberships are tax exempt!!

Dear me. Think I'm going to cry.

"It's not the American people's fault that the economy is hurting."

Yes, yes it is. You either voted for the bastards or you didn't vote for the other bastards. Its a democracy. YOU GET TO VOTE. That makes it your responsibility and yeah, it's YOUR FAULT.

This is so brilliant, so brilliant. It's like one of those time lapse flowers only it's a time lapse jungle, a time lapse freaking Amazon. Watching information about things I know intimately grow so wild and entwined with things utterly new to me and all the levels of intimacy in between is so damn cool and mesmerising and fun. Hi, hi. This is me, this is we, all of you I know and all of you I don't and everything that is my dearest hobby and all the things that are maybe yours.

Go. Go now and add your piece of story. It's really, really easy. It's so easy I can do it. Want to edit wiki? Ask me how! My limited but practical experience at your disposal. Only perhaps not for a few hours. Bed now.

Okay, one more thing: I am so very proud and pleased to be one of the volunteers working on OTW. It's about practical, accessible resources for fans, controlled and managed by fans and here's one, right here. I love it so much I want to smish it and the wiki committee and all the contributors. *SMISH*

Fanlore has been launched. Soft-launched they say, but regardless of relative hardness: yay!

Now, I have a question for people who may or may not predate me. Which mailing list came first: slashpoint or virgule? Was it called slashpoint? My memory is addled. I know I was on a general slash discussion mailing list from around 97. Help!

True Blood is proving to be dead cool. From the gorgeously gorgeous opening credits to Anna Paquin's cleavage I would like to cuddle up to, please and all the bits in between. 01x03 spoilers )

And now I shall amuse myself by imaging a St Trinian's/Sarah Connor Chronicles crossover with Chelsea confused, adorable and dragged along in Sarah's wake. "But Miss Dickinson..."

I think this just might work:

Your challenge is to write crossover fanfiction combining Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Grease.
The story should use evil characters becoming good as a plot device!

Because Riley/Forrest TOTALLY maps to Sandy/Danny. IT COULD WORK!

My dears, can you rec me some femslash? I'm specifically looking for long or long-ish plotty stories. Fandom doesn't matter. Established relationship, AU and/or RPS is fine. I don't want: drabbles, vignettes, character studies, PWP or WsIP.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for, I just know that whatever I'm reading in femslash simply isn't what I want. It discombobulates me that I can't find the femslash of my heart because I do indeed love the ladies themselves and watch femslashy shows with glee and delight and a warm satisfaction. My fannish heart therefore tells me I want fanfiction, but I can't settle on it and perhaps I am wrong? Maybe I don't need femslash fiction?

To fix this problem - thought it may not be a problem - I thought I would read for style and form, rather than for fandom. Perhaps in this way I will find the stories I want to read. I'm quite fixed about what I like in my boyslash: I like the cold prickly style, I like first time stories overwhelmingly in preference to established relationship, I prefer humour to tragedy, I don't like the ratio of hurt/comfort to lean to heavily to either side, I don't like too much whump, I prefer the writer to love both/all characters in a relationship and I like canon partners to be treated with respect and dispensed with gently.

Anyway, your assistance would be appreciated.

Why, delicious? Why did you take the function that allowed me to bundle unbundled tags out of a spot that was intuitive and MAKE IT LESS FUCKING INTUITIVE? When I click on bundle tags I should SEE ALL MY TAGS NOT MY BUNDLES. That doesn't make sense! I should see the things I want to ACT ON, YOU IDIOTS.

Ahem.

So. Website design hate on a Monday evening for me. You?

Dear Glinda/Elphaba shippers,

Sometimes paragraphs have more than one sentence. I swear this is true. You don't have to get all William Faulkner on your story's arse but do consider keeping your pinkie off the return once in a while.

Vera

Wow, SGA writers, you really, really know how to bring the stompy elephant feet of canon gay subtext to your increasingly feeble attempts at canon het text. Spoilers for Tracker )

Wicked OMG. I'd read the book, you see and then I heard that in the musical spoiler ) so naturally I thought, what rubbish! What Disneyfication! But, au contraire! How wrong I was! What spoiler, spoiler, glorious spoiler )

[info]vissy, this squee's for you. Though I feel certain you've seen this before, it doesn't suffer from repeated viewing.

Dear Richard Armitage, don't be changing. Also, please be keeping the long hair, mmmmmm, and the Very Big Sword, Indeed.

(Kindly be noting Harry Kewell/Tim Cahill icon. That's canon right there, that hugging and carrying and carrying on: CANON.)
