TN-1'd! I am now officially in the States for serious bizness.
Christ, it took WAY longer than usual driving down here - a total of EIGHT hours to get through Washington state (usually we can clear it in four), at a complete crawl. Total hours of driving: 26 >_o I never, ever want to make this drive again! LA has welcomed us with a dramatic rain shower (got enough of that, thanks... it was raining all the way until middle California!)

| Delayed by Depp |
[01 Oct 2008|06:53pm] |
So, I was going to leave tomorrow for the US of A, except Dizzy Knees didn't get my Visa packet together yet. Apparently they delayed mine over Johnny Depp's Voice Coach, who needed it ASAP since they were starting production. I'm glad it's at least Mr. Depp and not Miley Cyrus, otherwise BOY would I be steamed. Anyway, I've stopped packing and am going to get a delicious dinner and drink my fill of Masala Chai because I heard Los Angeles hasn't caught on to the magical stuff yet (en masse). Who can blame them, it's death valley degrees down there.
( in the meantime here are a tonne of screenshots from my show )

| RENTING. |

Hey, does anyone have or know where to find a (the?) standard apartment application form online? Is there one for California specifically? I'm a newb when it comes to renting (because I bought and lived in my own place for three years), and am a little worried I don't have all the right papers for the process. I don't have a credit report yet and don't know that I'll have it before leaving the country... will a mortgage statement, employment letter, recent bank statement and copy of my tax return suffice? Overkill? Plus a letter allowing potential landlords to pull up my credit report? Also I am moving from Canada to the US. Help me, intarnet!

Did the music for my show's promo today! It's sounding pretty good and kind of LOST-ish, with just a few instruments at a time throughout and accents only when needed. The action part of it is driving percussion, and we got rid of the flighty woodwinds so many shows are afflicted with. We also put in some faint high-pitched frequency sounds like they do around some places to ward off loitering teenagers... hopefully it won't be too annoying.
Anyway, working with the musician was AWESOME FUN. I never have a difficult time working with creatives who immerse themselves into their work. The writer, however, is another matter entirely - not able to empathize with any situation or even bringing his own personal experiences to the table, his writing is dull and uninspiring. I've pretty much had to rewrite anything he came up with. Bleagh. In any case, I'm confident this show will sell now, but don't know if I'll end up working on it. Will cross that bridge if I reach it.
I've decided to invest in a DSLR once I hit the states - more specifically a Nikon D80 with the 18-55mm VR kit, and then one of those lovely 50mm f/1.8 lenses. I mostly shoot in medium fielding so I guess these lenses will be ok for now? Any thoughts? All my cameras are Canons, but I like the way Nikon handles colour better - a liiiittle more elegant.
... I should go and draw something.

Cute letterhead, huh? I'll be starting as a story intern there in October.... provided I survive the mountain-load of paperwork. Man, I am so so so happy and grateful to have this chance. Thank you, Dizzy Knees! You're the studio that got me hooked on the stuff in the first place!
Next week we lock music and sound effects on my show's promo, and I will have a pretty little thing to show people on my ipod! Finally it's almost done!!! Then I shall be freeeeeeeeeee.

Hey, talking to my MP really worked!! I got my Citizenship card processed TWO DAYS after they opened it. Got it in the mail yesterday... HOWEVER.

AAAAAAAAAARHGSDHGLAKSLFASD*X#*%$@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Somebody must hate their job over there.
You just can't win with the government.
In happier news I attended a rather nutty wedding over the weekend. Alex & Alicia are two of the sweetest people ever and obviously went above and beyond to make sure their guests were entertained.... and boy, WERE WE. Topless women in bodypaint, trapeze artists, and a fan dance. They all made the lovey-dovey moments more adorable by contrast.
