cupcakes & other treats

romy found this great cupcake on craftster.  i changed the original pattern a lot.  after making the cake, i joined the icing & continued.  the other pattern made the two separately, then sewed them together.  i also chose to use a pom pom for the cherry instead of felt.  i added a plate for an extra cutsie touch :)

[info]bjerk919 ([info]bjerks_goodies) helped me find this great link to make rosettes.  you can make small, medium, & large sizes.  they can range in size from 1-6" depending on hook & yarn.

here's the mittens to match my scarf.  i found the pattern here

here's my special salvation army find from the weekend.  it's about 12-14" big.  all the fabric is sewn on & there's extra needle point detail, too.  i was also impressed w/ the frame that was made.  very neat stuff.  i didn't know there was an upstairs at our salvation army...that's where i found this :)

Your cupcake turned out cute! I like how you did the frosting, I saw that pattern on Get Crafty but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Get Crafty was the home of the original glitter boards, then glitter moved to Supernaturale.com and Get Crafty turned in to Hip Home Ec.
But just recently the gal who ran Hip Home Ec switched back to Get Crafty.com and now it's like the "new" Glitter!
Whew...that was a mouthful heh heh

so, i was right that glitter used to be on there. i missed the whole hip home ec thing. so now there's get crafty, glitter, craftster, & craftgrrl. anymore? why do we have so many again :P

i love your cupcake! the frosting reminds me of the turtle i crocheted way back when ~ the one whose shell looks like a cupcake or the top of an ice cream cone! ;) that owl picture is amazing! you're so lucky to have a good salvation army store!

guess what? i found you a little something, too :) that upstairs has tons of tins. what kind do you collect?? what i got you wasn't a tin this time. it's very, um, i don't know what style to call it. i'll just tell you that it has a bee on it. hopefully you'll like it.

ok. i'm glad you did that. now i know your style a bit better. i'm also feeling a lot better about what i found for ya. the reason i find the things that i do is because most other people think they're ugly ;)

That cupcake is so cute!!!! One of these days I'll get back to learning to crochet. :P

The other stuff looks great too! I still have to get around to uploading knick knack pictures (a few of owls) from my trip to California. I took some pictures of funny owls and turtles my grandma's backyard. :D

i can't wait to see all the pics!! i found you something at the salvation army, too. it's nothing fancy either, but for some reason i thought of you.

btw, i forgot to tell you that i did get the superman head so you could try making soap w/ it. i was worried about the writing inside, tho. they copyright, etc, showing up on the soap??

i'm not sure about the mittens. i used two strands of yarn held together, so they're kinda stiff. but...they're extremely warm!! i also forgot to switch to the larger hook on one, so now it's smaller. actually it fits better than the other one. oh well. i don't know what i'll do w/ them.

Okay so I see why you changed the pattern but what did you do for the top icing part. I have about 6 cupcake bottoms laying around because I can't get the top to look good.
??
Thanks :)

let me think....

i continued working right onto the cupcake bottom w/ the icing color. first i did a shell around it. i believe i did this in the front loops. then in the back loops i did what looks like hdc. then a round of sc & one more. you, of course, decrease w/ each round.

i know that's a pretty sucky explanation. i just experimented until it looked right. the whole trick w/ the icing is that first part...doing the front loops, then the back loops. that's how you get the icing to 'go over' the cake. good luck :)
