04:25 - Worldcon: The LiveJournal Annotations

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry

I've posted my Worldcon reports to my regular blog Dirac Angestun Gesept (aka [info]dirac_angestun), but since many of the people I met are LiveJournal users, I figured I'd make a post for LJ with appropriate LJ-user tags, and discussing some events which were semi-private but have since been mentioned on LJ. (This also acts as a pointer to my regular blog for folks who find my LJ but don't look at my bio page.)

Think of it as the annotated NESFA Press edition, or the extended edition with Peter Jackson's commentary, or whatever.

Thursday:

Mary Kay Kare is, of course, [info]marykaykare. The folks I had lunch with and then took to the MIT Museum were [info]trinker, [info]betnoir, and [info]western_slope. I also met [info]seawasp in the ConCourse.

There were about a bajillion folks at the LJ/blog party, but at the moment I remember talking to, in alphabetical order, at least: [info]aiglet, [info]annafdd, [info]autopope, [info]betnoir, [info]chanaleh, [info]cheshyre, [info]curiousangel, [info]feorag, [info]kate_nepveu, [info]lilairen, [info]marykaykare, [info]nancylebov, [info]orzelc, [info]papersky, [info]pnh, [info]rivka, [info]seawasp, [info]stakebait, [info]tammylc, [info]thomasyan, [info]tnh, [info]trinker, [info]veejane, [info]xiphias, and [info]xopher_vh.

If I've left you out (or included you when I saw you elsewhere at the con and not at the LJ party), I apologize; please let me know so I can fix it. I'm sure I'm missing people I actually met!

Friday:

Dealers' room time was usually at [info]elisem's table, often in the presence of [info]papersky. [info]autopope was at the kaffeeklatsch, of course. The dinner run was with [info]curiousangel and [info]rivka. I don't know if any of the other gamers had LJs.

Saturday:

The "Tradeoffs" panel included [info]tnh.

I stopped into the start of a panel to say hello to [info]gnomi before running off to the Fantasy of Manners panel, which itself featured [info]papersky.

The kaffeeklatsch I didn't get signed up for would have been with [info]tnh and [info]pnh. I did meet [info]farwing in the ConCourse, however, so not all was sadness.

[info]papersky did her reading from Farthing, and then the "small private gathering" I referenced was her Saturday tea party, with [info]rivka and [info]curiousangel again, plus [info]ailsaek, [info]rushthatspeaks, [info]gaudior, [info]tammylc, [info]aethereal_girl, [info]dhole, probably some folks I'm forgetting, and [info]jonsinger.

Dinner at Chilli Duck was with [info]rivka and [info]curiousangel yet again, except that unlike Friday's dinner, we ate at the restaurant and combined great conversation with the great food.

[info]seawasp was at the Baen party, where I also met [info]chakaal, though I didn't know she had a LiveJournal at the time.

Sunday:

I signed up for a kaffeeklatsch with [info]mabfan, had a chance to chat with [info]cheshyre, was reminded about the art show by [info]jonsinger, saw [info]farwing again at [info]elisem's table, and caught [info]papersky on yet another panel.

The Tor presentation had [info]pnh presenting, and I also saw [info]kate_nepveu and [info]marykaykare there, though they headed out before I did.

The "another small quiet gathering" was another [info]papersky tea party, which benefitted from my over-buying of cups on the previous day.

While party-hopping, I once again encountered [info]farwing and also finally met [info]del_c, both at the Readercon party, then saw [info]veejane again (though I didn't know it at the time) at the Weird Al sing-along party.

Monday:

Kaffeeklatsch with [info]mabfan and [info]gnomi, then to the "Obsolete High Technology" panel featuring [info]autopope and [info]beamjockey. From there, lunch with [info]beamjockey, and after the closing ceremonies, a short chat with [info]kjc007 and [info]jbsegal.

Aftermath & Thoughts:

As already noted, attendees at [info]feorag's birthday bash included [info]del_c, [info]autopope, and [info]fluffcthulhu.

Holy crap, so you're the other person on the planet who read Wasp. I loved that book, wore out one copy as a kid/teen.
I tried loaning it to some people, with no success.

It's in print from NESFA Press in the omnibus Entities.

I love it; it's one of my favorite books, and seemed like a suitably offbeat/fannish name for my offbeat/fannish blog.
