Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I'm...wow. I have no idea what to do with myself.

Apparently, as we left for the movie tonight, we held the door open too long and Schro got out. We didn't notice, being as we suck at pet parenting.

After the movie, we're sitting in Denny's talking to some friends of his. My cell goes off. I can't hear crap, so I tell them I'll call them back in a minute and go outside.

Apparently, someone got hold of him and set him on fire. His rear end, though he got badly burnt all the way up to his shoulders, and his ears are singed.

So, we rushed home. My dad spent the whole mile and a half talking about how it's already too late and it's too bad and at least we still have Taki. Which resulted in me screaming at him. We got here, met the person who heard the screaming and someone laughing and saw the flames (whoever it was apparently extinguished him after a minute or so) and had the guts to touch him to read his collar tag. The lady whose husband maintains the pool, actually. She had him in a towel and took him to the only vet clinic we called that was open today.

I don't actually know what they did, but he's apparently going to be okay. He's burnt bad, but everything's whole, and they're keeping him sedated. I don't know where I'm going to get the $5,000, since my dad has informed me he's not paying it, but I don't give a shit really. I must have something I can sell.

Yeah. I don't have any words. It's just as well for whoever did this, really, and for my sense of self, as I try not to be a vengeful person. I always tell my father that we won't let him out around Halloween because people are fucktards...what is it that made me think people would wait for Halloween? I guess any old holiday will do.

Yeah, going to go flip a shit now.

EDIT: This has got to be some kind of fucked-up nightmare. Please wake up. Schro never scratches or bites, not even when you grab him in an awkward way. He just lays back in your arms and tilts his chin up for scritches. And purrs. Why? What's the point of hurting something weaker than you are, of hating a creature of pure love?

EDIT 2: Because I'm only just now gathering enough I.Q. points to think to edit this post...the financial situation is taken care of now. I thank all of you for your incredible generosity and loving-kindness, and am happy to report that much is no longer a worry. Please, just send prayers and positive energy now. All is well. Any donations from this point forward will either be refunded as per the benefactor's request, or used as reward money in finding the perpetrator. THANK YOU!

Because humans are a generally terrible race that find their fun in tormenting things for joy.

Lucky there are a few of us who have redeeming qualities like the wonderful people who called you about your kitty. <3 (Report it to the police, it is very illegal and whoever did this will get a serious fine slapped on them if nothign else. You can also sue for the vet bill. <3)

My word. I lost my Szara to a wild animal just a few weeks ago...she was torn apart, there wasn't even a dream of trying to save her. But had there been, and I couldn't afford it, I'd certainly try everything I could to raise the money.

I remember someone asking if I wasn't sure a wild animal had done it, and not some rowdy teens. The fact that such people even exist just makes me sick to my stomach. I truly feel for you, and for Schro, and for Taki, who's probably also out of his/her mind with worry.

Take good care of yourself, and be so very thankful that Schro is going to be okay!

i worked at an animal shelter for about two years: i saw some pretty horrible things there. one cat, in particular, had to suffer in our shelter for six months.

i do not remember the cat's name; i have blocked most events of the shelter not of my mind. he came in with most of his neck muscles exposed after being strangled and dragged. when he came in, he was terrified-- he was a big, angry tom cat and no one blamed him.

unfortunately, or fortunately as i would say later on, i was assigned to take care of his wounds.

it was messy business. the best way to deal with burns and pus like that is to, oddly enough, cover them in sugar. it helps heal everything over, as long as it takes, and it's also cheap. but with him being so nervous-- it was difficult. very difficult.

in the end, he was one of the friendliest cats i ever knew. the last few months of his residency, we would let him out of the vet's office where he liked to stay and wander around the shelter. he had a beautiful temperment with cats at that point: he walked through the halls of the shelter like a prince. all the dogs were scared of him, and rightfully so, because he was not afraid to show them a little claw if they got too close to his territory (the cat wing).

it takes time for animals to regain the trust they lost, just like people. but it'll happen. just takes time, patience, and love.

I came here via [info]anjimoto's post.

Things like this are treated more seriously nowdays, thankfully. Oftentimes, if a person is willing to torture an animal that cannot fight back, their conscious may be depleted to the point that they can move on to torturing animals of a different sort. Namely, fellow human beings.

Of course, why justify this asswad's behavior? What happened was pure cruelty, and if you ever get this person in court, throw the book at them for the sake of everyone.

If anything, I bet karma'd get them back later.

definitly report this to the police, and local media (newspapers, tv etc). Talk to the vet also about how to set up a special account for donations- and mention it in reports- hopefully local people will help too with dontions (they're more apt to donate to a vet then you personally in my experience; and seeing picts and stories of injuried kitties usually encourage people to help). Also, such coverage might help with getting someone who saw something to come forward- help you cass this asshole- and if they are caught- besides getting them on animal abuse charges you can sue them to cover the vet bill and your own emotional suffering from this.
also, talk to the vet about this- they shooud, given the situation imho, be willing to set up a payment plan for you to give you more time to raise money. If they won't, check with other vets as well as local animal-welfare societies/charities that might have funds to help or at least could give you advice on other contacts. best of luck

Here through [info]ataniell93 and I just have to say that in your shoes, I would not be nearly so kind towards the fuckers responsible. I agree with calling the police - people who will torture small animals who can't fight back may eventually move on to helpless people instead.

Call the police, and if they catch a person, then sue for the vet bill. If not, at least you'll know that they're looking, right?

;__; Gods, that is so horrible. If someone did that to my cats, I'd be on a hunt with my weapons collection and several animal lovers. My condolences, and I hope your kitty heals well.

Listen to [info]bdot. Quite a few people would make at least a small donation, and these things add up, and it sounds like you'll be pressed to pay for this.

It's the abuse of the trust of the poor animal that really cranks me up. I just can't comprehend the kind of monster that could do that sort of thing. If your sympathy (not empathy) and hopes for recovery for the perpetrator help you get through this, go for it! I'd be hoping I *did* catch them in the act -- well, especially if it could be before they lit the poor cat, when most of it could actually be prevented.

Is it possible to report this to your local news station? Perhaps with a little bit of publicity you can educate some people out there that this kind of thing isn't funny, that a cat is a living creature not to be abused. Also, public outcry would be substantial (I assume) and someone (or someones) may come forward to help you pay your vet bill.
