Double Date
Thursday was a great day. I had a good time in art, though realistic drawing is starting to get on my nerves. Things really kicked off at five o'clock. I joined the international club in LAC for international dancing. A woman from Fermi Lab came out to teach us. We had a good turnout, though predictably a lot more girls than guys. We wound up dancing for nearly two hours. My favorite was the Serbian (I think it was Serbian anyway) one we did right away. Since then I've forced about ten different people to do that one with me. There was a really cool Hungarian wedding dance too. Most of the dances were in circles, though some were in lines or individual. The Japanese one came as a pleasant surprise, as it had one of the same motions in it that I'd learned in a Nagaoka folk dance two years ago. At 6:45, I walked to the station and picked up MIke.

Mike, Johnny, Bobby, and I had planned a double date. We'd been talking about having one for a while, so everyone was pretty excited about it. We'd planned on eating at Bennigans between seven and eight, then seeing Pan's Labyrinth at 8:05. For some reason, though Bobby's mom wound up working late, so we had less time than we'd planned. Mike and I spent the extra time waiting for Bobby to arrive going to Walgreens, going to Burger King, and getting food at The Cage. Bobby picked us up from The Cage. We then drove to the AMC. We had some trouble getting in, as I thought we could make a left at one point where we couldn't. So we wound up illegally u-turning in an intersection, but whatever. We made it for the movie in time. I hadn't cuddled during a movie since Joel last spring, so it was nice. It seems funny to think how nervous I was about it the first time, but now with Bobby it feels so natural. I liked Pan's Labyrinth. Like Emily said, there was a lot more in it about the civil war in Spain and less about fantasy or the labyrinth, but I didn't mind. It was an enthralling story. I definitely recommend it. It was a very unique movie.

We drove back to my dorm afterward. It was ten something by then, so we had about an hour to hang out. We chatted in my dorm and hung out. We wound up making out a little with our bf's and with each other a little too. Johnny proposed the idea of us mixing partners to figure out who was the best at it, but Bobby wouldn't participate. So, I had to be the judge, and decided that Bobby was the best (really, what else was I going to say). Eventually we drove Mike to the station and said goodbye. Bobby then drove back to my dorm, where we said goodbye at the door. And I guess, according to Johnny some people were looking down at us "saying goodbye" from the windows above. Gah. Bobby and Johnny left, and I went jogging with Jill.

All in all it was a great day. We didn't have as much time as we'd wanted for the date, but everyone had a great time.

Three Stressul Days
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday weren't so great. Mostly I was stressed out over my overdue art homework. So, I wound up skipping my Greek lesson, not going jogging much, and not studying Greek during the week. I did eventually get my art homework done after about 6 hours of one-point perspective drawing, which was exhausting.

Tuesday was alright. I worked on my ridiculous Japanese skit with Erik, struggled through my calligraphy class (it's tough), gave Calaya a Japanese lesson, and had Scott draw me in the nude for two and a half hours. Oh, and Melissa and I went to Graham Crackers.

On Wednesday I skipped the Gay Straight Alliance meeting, where I heard we actually did something for once, to ride with Nicole to Hobby Lobby to buy mat board. I really don't see Nicole much, but she's a really cool and nice girl. 日本会話 (Japanese conversation club) was interesting, we had to tell a story in the round. It wound up really strange, though. It involved a dead thief, a gunman, Superman, Mars, the planet of prostitutes, Hue Heffner, and a fairy. Amanda and I kept trying to end the story, but Prof. Matsubara wouldn't let us. Art club was better. Calaya came and taught us calligraphy. It was a lot of fun, and much easier than I'd expected. Of course, we were learning Hunchel (sp?), not gothic, so it was simpler.

Things picked up a lot more on Thursday. The first few days of the week were just stressful because of my looming art homework.

A Perfect Saturday
I woke up late on Saturday around eleven and spent the first couple hours of my day relaxing. I talked with Ian online, and we set up plans to hang out that night. He said we hadn't hadn't hung out one-on-one in a while, and I agreed. I really do miss when we used to work together and take our breaks together every Thursday. He decided he'd take the train in and arrive around 4:30. He wound up getting in at 5:30, as he'd read the wrong schedule, but it didn't matter. Mike was at the Fox Valley mall picking up Johnny from work, so he called me and, they decided to come over. The three of us had a fun time together. We didn't do too much, but that didn't matter. We chatted in my room for a while while messing with the calligraphy brushes. Eventually we took a walk/ photo excursion to the "end of the road" factory by the alternate jogging route. It was cool to see it in the day, and we explored the area around it more than David Seguin and I had before. We walked back eventually, as I had to meet Ian at the station at 5:30, and Mike had to be back home by 6. Fortunately Ian's train was on time. The four of us walked back together and said goodbye near my dorm.

Ian and I were both starving, so after dumping his stuff in my room (which had my roommate and friends in it playing Nintendo...since when does that happen?), we went to Noodles and Company. We both thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. On the way there, and while at Noodles, I saw people I knew from school. It's quite the popular place, I guess, as it's one of the only cheap restaurants downtown. We then went to Coldstone afterward. Ian had a coupon (go figure). We boasted about which one of our malts would be superior, and I think Ian's actually was better. He added a lot more stuff into it anyway. We got back to NCC and sat in the lounge and talked about sex, which seems to be a common conversation these days... We wound up hanging out a lot in the lounge, as my room mate and co. were in my room playing Nintendo for most of the night. We went through about twenty minutes of calling Mike, Cassie, etc. and trying to figure out if we were going clubbing or not.

We decided not too in the end. I wasn't really up for a long drive and trying to figure out how to get home on Sunday. Fortunately, it turned out that Wesley, Kirsten, Adrian, and a bunch of other people from the dorms were going to go laser tagging. The only problem was Ian and I would need to find our own ride. Fortunately, Melissa wanted to go too. Melissa, Adrian, Charlitha, Ian, and I rode together to the Brunswick Zone. It was a Funway type place, minus the bowling and roller skating. We wound up having to pay 8 dollars each for only 15 minutes of laser tag! The place in Aurora is much cheaper than that... I had mixed feeling about the laser tag at Brunswick zone.

The good points-
-The heat was off, so we didn't get really hot and could wear our coats.
- There was no referee or briefing
- Because of that we could run in the course and the half of our group that wasn't playing the first round was allowed to come in without gear and just run around (which lead to Ian, Kirsten, Melissa, and I dancing in the laser tag room during the second round)

The bad points-
- It was overpriced
- The vests didnt' react right away when shot
- Eventually some people's guns and vests just stopped working (mine, Wesley's, and Sean's at least)

So, if it had been cheaper and the vests had worked, it would've been a really cool place. The course was smaller than the Aurora one, but still nice. We watched some guy play DDR like a fiend after we were done. His feet were moving incredibly fast! On our way back to campus we (both cars) went through the Burger King drivethru. They forgot out order of fries and my milk the first time, though so we had to go through again. Back at campus we split up. Ian and I decided to watch Battle Royale. I called up Pixie and dashed over to Blue House to get it. Ian, Melissa, and I watched it on my bed. We even set up the speakers and subwoofer. Kirsten and Nico came in at the end, and we talked a bit. Ian slept on my big, round cushion on the floor, and we fell asleep at around three.

Perfect Friday Night
The excitement that was my weekend kicked off at 7:30 in Heininger. I went with David Seguin to see the comedian, Dan Tosh, who was pretty funny. He, of course, touched on a lot of inappropriate things, but don't all comedians? He made some pretty clever jokes about google, anal sex, gays, and television. There was a really good turnout, and I'm going to see the comedian next week for sure after seeing this one. I kept getting calls and voicemail during the act. I was nervous, as Aimee and I had devised an iffy plan where she would pick Bobby after he got off work then drive them to NCC. Then he would sleepover in my room and she would in Melissa's. Of course, the voicemails changed that. Aimee's parents wouldn't let her drive late enough to pick up Bobby, plus she wasn't up for it.

I got back to my room soon after the comedian. Calaya and Rhea came with to help me set up. I hooked up the speakers and spruced up Nicholas's stuff. They left soon after to play Mafia in the lounge while I kept preparing. It was a pain to hang the sheets. I wanted to cover everything in the room except for the door and the bed to create more of a dancing environment. I manged to cover Nicholas's bed with my brown bedspread, the dresser with my white sheet, the corner with a maroon one, and my desk with Scott's black sheet. I stuck them up with duct tape, but it was really unstable. I had to struggle to put them back up a couple of times. The party started off really slow. Everyone I had wanted to come was at Mafia. For a little while, Bruce, Colleen, Melissa and I were dancing, but eventually we gave up. I just waited for Mafia to end to start the party. Finally at 11 ish I had to practically capture the people who were putting their coats on! After the trouble though, the party really started. We had a good 12, 15 people dancing. Scott, Doug, Shannon, Jacob's room mate, all joined in too. I danced with Nicole a lot of the time. We'd danced together at the Halloween Ball, so it was to do it again. Around 12:20 everyone left except for Melissa, Jacob, and Colleen. There was about a ten minute gap with no one around. Fortunately that's when some of the sheets decided to fall down. I put them back up, and then a whole new crowd of people came back. We had a good number at 12. Then Bobby finally showed up! I'd been calling him impatiently throughout the night seeing when he could make it.

Unfortunately, it was 12:40, so there was only twenty minutes left to dance. I didn't get to introduce him to anyone because of how late it was, but we got to dance together, so it didn't matter. A lot of people said that I should throw another dance party. Considering how much fun this one was, there's no doubt about it. After one, I cleaned up the room with help from Bobby. Then we spent the rest of the night (until four) talking and making out. I really didn't want him to leave, and he didn't want to either, but he had to work at ten, so we had to say our goodbyes.

Battle Royale!
Today was very slow-paced and relaxing. Art ended at twelve, and I spent about an hour at lunch upstairs with Jason, David, Pixie, Nicole, Michiko, and Nicole B. I spent the rest of my day getting my hair cut, grocery shopping at Walgreens, and relaxing in general. I'm beginning to think that a week from Friday would be much better for my dorm room dance party, as I found out that I won't be able to play Mafia because of the schedule conflict, and the Union is having a club night! Ugh! Oh well, it's too late now...

At around 6 I watched Battle Royale with Pixie and Amanda in their room in the Blue House. I really liked it. It was really violent but therefore action-packed. It was about 42 Japanese 9th graders who are put on an island and given various different weapons (A rifle, knife, megaphone, binoculars). Then they're instructed to kill one another until there's only one of them left. If they don't do so by the third day then they'll all die. I liked how many characters there were and how they interacted with each other. Some banded together while others went on solo killing sprees. All in all, I'd recomend it. I think it's something that Americans could get really into, what with movies like Kill Bill and Sin City.

I'm still really up in the air about the weekend. Bobby is hopefully coming tomorrow night, though he may not be able to make it. My fingers are crossed on that one. A photo shoot might be happening Saturday morning, Amanda wants to see Pan's Labyrinth, I want to get together with people for the talent show, the 3rd floor crowd is going out to eat Saturday night and want me to come with, and then Mike wants me to go clubbing. So...we'll see what happens. I just wish I could reschedule my dance party to next Friday.

Kareshi? かれし?
Wednesday was alright. I was late for English, as I lost track of time. I wound up making it fortunately. I worked on different things between classes and went to Japanese at 2:40. We went over ”し” which, like most of the stuff in this unit so far, is review for me. Afterward I headed down to GSA. The meeting was pretty pointless. Bobby didn't show up, so it was a planning meeting for the drag show. I guess I'm on the "Guess the Hetero" committee, but it's been postponed because of the fact that if the people trying to guess the hetero know everyone in the line up, then there won't be any challenge. So...we'll see what we do with that. Scott and I spent most of the time discussing what it's like to be gay. Chris and Nicole were with us. I don't really like to talk about gay things a lot because I feel like it highlights the differences between me and straight people, but sometimes it's just nice to have someone to vent to about gay stuff.

I headed to dinner at The Cage after the meeting. I sat with a lot of different people: Scott, Calaya, Julie, Michael Gharst (the GSA president who kind of bugs me), Chris, and tons more. It was a lot of fun. I had to cut it short though to get to 日本会話 (Japanese conversation club). We had two special guests during the club. A former Japanese student from NCC who was now completely fluent in Japanese, and his wife. He was Asian and could've passed for a Japanese person in my book, but I guess his name was Dewey and he grew up in Naperville. I never heard him speak English, though. I really wanted him to! We were split up into two groups. The more advanced group was with Dewey's Japanese wife, while the rest of us were with Dewey and Matsubara sensei. We talked about a number of things. It was tough to follow, of course. At one point the conversation turned to me having a boyfriend. Nina and Amanda were teasing me that I was a pedophile for dating a 17 year old, but I kept replying "ペドファイルじゃないよ!”(I'm no pedophile!). Amanda asked if Bobby was emo because of his emo hair in his Facebook pictures.

Eventually Matsubara sensei started paying attention and asked if Amanda had really meant "かれし” (Kareshi- Bf) instead of ”かのじょう” (Kanojou- Gf), as she'd thought that Amanda had mixed them up.
I told Matsubara sensei that Amanda was right in saying "kareshi".
She replied "honto ni" (really?).
To which I answered "honto!" (really!)

So then they asked me questions about him like where I met him. Then they started asking me about Comart. It was pretty funny, I thought, discussing Comart and Bobby in Japanese. I went with Matsubara sensei, Dewey, and his wife to her office after nihonkaiwa to get the materials for calligraphy. She never stopped speaking in Japanese for the whole time until finally she said, "Oh, Zachary I didn't realize. I've been speaking Japanese the whole time!". It was pretty funny. Art club went well. Not too many showed up. I was the only Freshmen. The rest were Tim Brodeur's (the president) friends...who are pretty much the exec. board. Kaai showed up late to teach us Japanese calligraphy. Everyone thought it was really cool and was really impressed. I practiced my lines, but I still can't get one of them down. And Tim Brodeur is so obviously gay. I just want to shout it in his face!! He's been acting differently towards me lately, ever since I snagged people to teach both Japanese and European calligraphy for art club. Maybe he's just grateful, but he's been super friendly (and I do not mind :P )

I spent the rest of the night wasting time, talking to Aimee on the phone, chatting with Mike and Bobby online, and working on my art project. So, it wasn't a bad night.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
Sunday- Not too much happened on Sunday. I wound up trapped at home until I finally got a hold of Dad and caught the 4:20 train. Of course, I also got the new which freaked me out for half the day... Sunday night was fun. We didn't go for a jog because of the rain, but Amanda, David, Caroline, Erik, Matt, and I hung out in the Boilerhouse and watched some Almost There A to Z. I think David was a little apprehensive to watch it at first, as if he didn't expect much. Everyone thought it was a riot, though! Amanda loved Mavril Lazine and the theme song.

Monday- Yeah, nothing really blog-worthy occurred.

Tuesday- Yesterday was alright. I didn't go to art, though I felt bad. I didn't have my ink drawing done, though. Calligraphy class was tough. We had to draw the kanji for tree and day. I think I've got straight lines down and, if I concentrate enough, swish lines, but "stop and release" lines are tough. Then on top of of that there's the whole matter of symmetry and length of the lines. So, calligraphy is a challenge. I wound up not having a date with Bobby, as he couldn't get the car. So, instead, I did laundry and homework. Calaya came to my room, after leaving an angry message on my voicemail which upset me for a while, at nine for a Japanese lesson. Things went well. She still needs to work on pronuncation, but she's not bad. I went jogging immediately afterward. It was cold. My ears were not enjoying that. Still, David, Jill, and I had a good jog.

Let's hope the next few days prove more exciting. I think between clubs and the excitement that I'm expecting on Friday, they will be.

How much hotness do I need in one day?
So, I woke up late at nine thirty on Saturday, ruining my early morning plans with Bobby. We'd planned to hang out before he went to work at 10:30. I wound up waiting around until twelve when Aimee was free to hang out. We were briefly at her house before going for a drive. We drove up to Wayne to check out the beautiful houses and the Dunham Castle. Afterward we went to the increasingly lame Charlestown mall. We still had fun, though. We window shopped at some stores and took pictures in an old fashioned photo booth with art nouveau on the side. She took me to Funway after the mall. I thought I was supposed to be there at 3 for the AFS thing, but I guess they had told me 3:30. So, I wandered around outside of the Funway and killed time until 3:30.

Mrs. Ziffer showed up at half past three, and we talked for a while until the rest of the AFSers arrived. It was nice to see Mrs. Lang again. I missed Meghan and Melissa Clegg (who had undergone foot surgery), but at least Brenna (who I can't decide if she's obnoxious or not) was at the party that night. I mostly talked to Aida while bowling. She's a really cool girl. I talked to Janus a good amount too. Gosh, he's a knockout. He's so handsome and stylish...it's rare to see someone that good looking...anyway, I bowled really well. I got a 115 without bumpers! So, I was really happy about that. I talked a little to Hisako, a peppy girl from Japan during the two games. At six, we all wrapped things up. I helped total the scores with Mrs. Lang, Clegg, and Burdick, then went up to the arcade where the exchange students were. I didn't have any tokens, so I walked around and talked to Aidia and Janus a bit.

I was driven to the party at Mrs. Scales' house by an AFS volunteer who I hadn't met before. She said she'd been around for a few years, though. I sat next to a cool Brazilian girl in the back (her name escapes me). We talked about Brazil and my friend Renata (whom I miss). I was worried that things would be kind of awkward at the party as I'm not a highschooler anymore, and all the exchange students are. Plus, Meghan and Melissa wouldn't be there. Things went well, though. I didn't feel out of place with the students. The party was a blast. I got to talk in Japanese a bit with Taka and Hisako, ate some really good lasagna, tried to balance on the boogie board, and talked a good deal with Aida and Janus. i realised throughout the night that Janus really is full of himself and kind of pain...but he's still really handsome. Towards the end of the party I called Mike, Bobby, etc. on Brenna's cell phone to see what was up. Mrs. Lang drove me home, along with Taka, Wow (a Thai girl), Ace, Mrs. Lang's Austrian host son (who is kind of a pain), and others.

It was around ten fifteen was the time when I got home. I called Bobby and finally got a hold of him. He was free, so he said he'd come over after getting ready. I watched SNL while I waited, as Jake Gylenhaal was on it. Bobby came over at eleven, and we watched SNL together. The episode was alright, but could've been better. I think I went into it expecting too much, or maybe I was just not caring as much since Bobby was there. After SNL was when I really started having fun, anyway. Bobby and I made out for probably...an hour and a half or so. It was surprising in retrospect that it lasted that long, but it was that amazing. We watched some A to Z and figured out why Bobby would get home at 2 if he "were watching a movie at a friend's house" that started at eleven, but we figured his mom wouldn't be up when he got home anyway.

So, between going for a drive with Aimee, the AFS party, and hanging out with Bobby it was a pretty amazing day!

Creative Writing Slam
The highlights of Friday were definitely the creative writing slam and Ian's birthday party. Classes went alright. I skipped "History of Ideas" just because I was up so late the night before. I was too busy after Japanese to eat dinner at Kaufman, which was fortunate as a handful of people from Seiger got food poisoning and threw up.

Melissa came with me to the Boilerhouse at 5:30 to set up and wait for people to arrive. We wound up having a low turnout. Calaya, David, Caroline, Scott, Tia, Melissa, and I were the only ones there. Matt and his cool-looking, artsy sister made an appearance eventually, but we had finished by then. Everyone had something good to read. Tia's poem was very long, but amazing. We all told her she should publish it. Scott's poetry was very depressing and dark, but I like his first poem a lot. Calaya read a bit quietly. She'd written about her fears for a guy she knew that was near the London bombings. David and Caroline lightened the mood with their back-and-forth poem they made up at dinner. It was hilarious. I read my personal narrative that I wrote the night of Johnny's birthday party. It felt a little strange because I really wasn't interested in Johnny anymore, but I could still feel my emotions from that night. Everyone seemed to like it. Melissa followed me with her dramatic reading of the side of the pepsi can, which was a riot.

With the poetry over, we spent the rest of the time taking cool photos. Scott really got some cool angles. I went back to my room afterward, collected my things and then walked with Melissa to the train station. It was really nice of her to walk with me, I didn't think she'd want to. I took the 8:20 train (and didn't pay) to Aurora where Dad picked me up. He took me straight to Ian's party. The party started out small. Molly Walz, Kelly, a not-so-great-looking John Heronemus, post-dental-surgery Ian, and I were the only ones there. We ate snacks, played bumper pool, and watched Bend it Like Beckam. I liked it, as Dad said I would, but we stopped it once Mike showed up. Livi showed up around the same time, as did Gabby and Isaac. I felt Mike was a little rude for all the people he brought. Ian didn't seem to mind, though. I would've.

Cassie had to pick up her brother from the laundromat eventually. I decided to go with her. I wasn't totally in the party mood, so I wanted some time away. Plus, I still kind of missed Cassie from not seeing her for a year. We picked Zach and some other guy and drove them home on the east side. The other guy was really quiet and creepy-looking. I'd seen him at the high school. I was shocked at how fast Cassie judged him. She kept talking about how her brother shouldn't be hanging around with him and how it would make him look bad. It all seemed really cruel to me.

Back at Ian's party I hung around until midnight. I sang a little karaoke and played some more pool. I was having fun, but knew I had to wake up early the next day, so I left at midnight with Livi.

Holding Hands
Today was a blast. I loved being a couple in public! Holding hands, introducing Bobby as "my boyfriend", it felt great!

After art I went to lunch. I wound up sitting with Stephanie and Hsin Pei at their surprisingly quiet table, but later sat with David, Caroline, Melissa, and Joe. Melissa and I ran some errands in our rooms after lunch and then headed over to Caroline's room. Her room really is a nice size. It was messy, and she does have two roommates, but I like the cozy feel of it. We watched an over the top, 17th century-themed performance of "Vogue" by Madonna on youtube. It was ridiculous, but captivating at the same time. I posed for Caroline as she drew me in her room. The drawing turned out alright. She got the wrinkles in my jeans down, but made my bent arm too short. Caroline, Melissa, and I walked back to Seiger where I left to wait to be picked up in my room, Caroline split off to go to the Gap, and Melissa left to take a nap.

The Mall- At around three Cassie picked me up. Bobby was in the passenger seat. Mike and Johnny were in back. We drove for about 45 mins. or so until we got to the Woodfield Mall. The relaxing drive was quite the contrast to the time I'd driven up to Arlington Heights on the highway. We got to the mall and took snapshots in front of one of the giant horse statues in front. Cristin called, and we met up with her at Spencers. Our small fivesome wound up becoming a big group of around 12. Cristin, Will Sharp (From BUMC), Julian, Nicole P, Ellen, and Emily (the cool Homestad/track girl) joined us. Still, Bobby and I wound up splintering off. The two of us walked (with hands laced) to Urban Outfitters and Jimmyz. It was really nice. Ellen and Emily joined up with us at the end after we all ate dinner at Jimmy Johns. There were some cool things at UO, but I wasn't out to buy anything. I'm still not sure where Cristin's group of friends' money comes from. So many of them seem to spend, spend, spend, and then complain that they have to be more frugal...and then go to malls. People started to get frustrated towards the end what the plan was for the night and who was riding with whom. It seems that people in Cristin's group aren't the best at planning things out (a contrast to how I like to operate). Still, after some frustrated wanderings through the mall Cristin, Mike, Johnny, Bobby, and I found the exit we were looking for.

Bobby and I made sure to cram into the backseat to be next to each other. Mike and Johnny were next to us. Almost immediately マイクとジャニーはメクアウトをするをはじまった! I was shocked at first. I mean, this was Mike! But after some yelling/groaning by everyone else in the car, they stopped. We took a pit stop on the way home at Cassie's grandparent's house. We all had to play it straight, as they were old Catholics. They wound up being pretty funny. Their house was decorated really well. We even got to see the purple and gold themed bathroom with purple soap. The basement was really funny, as parts of it has really low ceilings where I could barely stand, and Mike had to duck. After some more socializing we were out of there.

Back at NCC-Johnny found out that he couldn't go clubbing, so Mike decided not to go either. I had homework left and class the next morning, so I suggested that we hang out at NCC. I called Merika telling her about the change of plans, and Cassie dropped us off near LAC. From there we walked to the Boilerhouse. Counterpunch was playing in the basement. It consisted of only two guys, but they were pretty good. Bobby and I sat holding hands through the Counterpunch performance and through a few songs of two other groups. The final band sounded a lot like "All American Rejects", and their guitarist looked kind of funny trying to thrash around on the tiny stage. Mike and Johnny disapeared for most of the time we were down there to go talk. Hmmm...

We headed to The Cage afterward to eat. There I introduced everyone to David, Rob, Caroline, and Jacob. Merika called a handful of times, as she'd gotten lost. It wound up that she'd turned the wrong way onto Diehl! I swear, if Paul can get to NCC with no trouble I would think Merika could too. At ten we went upstairs to Thursday Night Improv. Merika came during improv, so Bobby and went out to Brainard to find her. It was a pretty good show. I went up twice, but Merika, Johnny, and Michael had started a conversation in the hall, so I don't know if they saw me go up at all. At eleven we made our way to my room. We hung out until around 12:30. Scott came up and hung out too. Again Mike and Johnny メクアウトをしたい, but I put a stop to that. Gosh...those two. So, at 12:30 we left to walk to Harris, so I could get Merika some gas money from the ATM. It actually wasn't too cold, so the walk was nice. At one o'clock we got to Merika's car and I said goodbye.

That was the first day I'd been out in public as a couple and I loved it! Holding hands all around campus, knowing that I was with someone and that I didn't care who knew. It was great.

Single no more
A lot of different things happened yesterday. It was quite exciting.

I was worried that I hadn't completed whatever ink assignment I was supposed to do for drawing, but it turned out that there wasn't one. We presented our two-hour drawings in class. We were able to draw anything for two hours, so I drew the hearts dangling from my bedpost. I was satisfied with it, but knew it could've been better. Barry (our instructor) said that from far away it was hard to tell where one heart began and the next one ended, which was true. I felt happy when we walked around and looked at each other's. A good amount of people crowded around mine to look at it, so I was glad that it turned out well up close. Doug drew an amazing drawing from his head. It head book pages, roses, skulls, hearts, faces, lovers, all intertwining into the shape of a skull.

I had lunch with David afterward. I thought his cool, new roommate Erik would be there, as we'd made dinner plans with him and had rescheduled to lunch, but I guess he couldn't make it. I do want to get to know that guy better; He seems really cool. I gathered my Japanese things back in my room and headed over to Calaya's after lunch. I've started tutoring her in Japanese in exchange for calligraphy lessons. We went over the sounds of Japanese, introductions, useful words, etc. She was starting to get the choppy sound of Japanese down by the end.

I went back to my dorm afterward and took a shower, which caused me to be late for calligraphy class. I came in around 2:12, but whatever. About seven people were there: Caroline, Matt, Somer, Patrick, Stephanie, Scott, Charlie, and Amanda. Kaai and Matsubara Sensei were the teachers. It was much harder than I thought! All we had to do was make a Japanese ten (which is just a cross), but there was so much more to making a stroke than I'd expected. I think eventually it'll become more natural though. I found Scott and his visiting friend Nicole in Seiger and got them to run errands with me. We took the secret stairs of Carnegie, got stuck in the basement of Osterle looking for the "Iliad", and picked up the ten dollar gift certificate I won. I, along with some girl named Jenny wound up answering the most questions correctly (8/10) on the international questionnaire back in November at the International Luncheon. So, I guess it paid off.

The Bobby Date-I called Bobby afterward and had trouble getting ahold of him. Eventually I reached him online and we figured things out. He tried to cancel our date because of homework, but I followed Cassie's advice and didn't take no for an answer. He said he could get the car around six, so he'd be at NCC around 6:40. He called me at 6:50, and I met him outside of Seiger. We were going to go to the cage, but I grabbed my gift certificate and we headed to Bangkok Village. The atmosphere was nice and the food was great. We talked about school, Cassie, Mike and Johnny, Comart, different things. It was really nice. Afterward we retired to my room to do homework. I studied Japanese while Bobby did some awkward Howard Stern-related homework. He wound up having to write about penis-enlargement commercials and gentlemen's clubs...so, yeah. We studied for a couple hours. He showed me his amazing drawings. He even gave me three to put on my wall.

Eventually I asked him where he saw things going between us. We talked about how he's a nervous, timid sorta guy and how he doesn't like to be pushed into things. I told him I think we'd work together because I like to go slow and I'm not some manwhore. I told him that I'm sorry if I give him mixed signals and how I always seem to act too much like a friend around him, which he agree were the signals he was getting. After talking for a bit we wound up making out, which was of course a lot of fun. We had to stop at around 10:30, as he had to drive home and I had to go jogging. We walked back to the car. Jill and David were waiting for me to show up, so I ran over to them. Jill asked, "Wait, why are you wearing jeans? What are you-" And I kind of shoved her a replied, "I'm on date!! I'll be there in five minutes!"

I said goodbye to Bobby at his car just as David and Jill ran by saying they were going without me. I dashed back to my room after Bobby drove off and changed into my jogging clothes. I ran the route backwards and wound up catching up with them in the subdivision. Our run ended after only 24 mins! So, it's good to know we're getting faster. Back in my room I talked to Bobby and David online. David complained more than usual about how I should call if I'm going to be late. I got the feeling from him that he was sort of frustrated about me not liking him and going on a date, but I could've been imagining things.

All in all it was an exciting, interesting, successful day!!

Just Another Manic Monday
Nothing really happened yesterday and not too much today. My classes went alright. We learned different ways to say "to have sex" in Japanese. They have pretty much the same euphamisms we do, but they didn't take them from English. They say "I did her" and "I slept with him" that kind of thing. I was partners with Erik, my friend David's new roommate, and one of the new students in class who just returned from the China/Japan trip. He seems like a cool, interesting guy. I'd like to get to know him better.

I went online in the middle of the day and received a note from David Seguin on Facebook. He told me that he'd had a crush on me since the beginning of the year and finally wanted to tell me. The night before relationships had been the subject of our jog, so he sent me a message on Facebook divulging the information. I'd suspected as much. Our conversation about it wound up being not awkward at all, though. We talked in my room after the jog with Caroline. We basically resolved it in two minutes and then things were back to normal. I hope he's not disappointed about the whole thing.

Anyway, before that talk even happened, I ate dinner with Kara. It was really nice. She had already finished eating but stayed to keep me company. I walked to the train station after that and talked to Miles on the phone. It was nice to see how he was doing. I guess I feel like he's a cooler brother when he's not so accesible, go figure. Greek lessons were a little frustrating. I'd been studying for 45 mins. to an hour every day, but still felt like it wasn't enough. I could tell Maria was a little frustrated with us. She even mentioned how she could tell none of studied just because we didn't know the Christmas words.

Still, I felt like I was much faster at the verb conjugations and at forming sentences, so I just need to study harder this week and show her up next time. Oh, and Thais was there! I'd really missed her! She named her new baby Zoey (Greek for "life")!

Back at NCC I went jogging, talked to Caroline and David about maybe nude modeling for the drawing class (it's such good money). I came back to my room to find a tie on my door. I did a double take and was worried about entering, but I knocked and let myself in. There was no one inside. It turned out that Nikko and Tan next door had been pranked by someone putting a tie on their door, so they would both be too nervous to go in. Nikko was so upset that he went and put his ties on everyone else's doors in retaliation. It was pretty funny. My roommate entered looking pretty suspicious and confused.

Oh, and I talked to Bobby online and on the phone. We have a date for tonight at the Sushi House! This Tuesday should be fun :)

Really fun Saturday = Really long post!
Saturday was the awesome kind of day I've been waiting for. Mom woke me up at 8:50 by calling me asking if she could pick me up in ten minutes. I sleepily replied no, which gave me the burden of finding my own way home.

Artsy Photo Shoot-I got ready and put on some formal clothes at nine for Scott's artsy photo shoot. Scott and I headed over to Calaya's room to pick out her makeup, outfit, etc. It took ages, but eventually Scott and Cayala's roommate, Allison were satisfied.

The four of us walked downtown, got some duct tape, and started taking pictures downtown. Scott would draw mouths on duct tape and then cover our own mouths with the tape. It made for some pretty interesting pictures. I didn't really like Scott's style of photography at first, but he wound up taking a lot of great shots. We took some in the downtown furniture shop where the woman working there exclaimed, "What are you doing? Why are you putting those on your mouths??". She was funny, though, and nice for letting us use her store. Afterward, we walked to the train station to take pictures there, as I had to catch a 12:30 train. Rhea and Julie joined us. It wound up that my train wasn't coming until 1:30, so we had plenty of extra time. Scott took interesting pictures with the word "F*ck" on our duct taped lips, "Help us we're in Hell" broken up and written across our duct taped faces, and shots of Calaya clutching my leg as I left her for the train. There was even one with Calaya crying a little duct tape tear.

Geneva Commons-At one thirty I caught my train and rode to Aurora. Becka picked me up in her Dad's big, tealish minivan. We called Ian who was interested in doing something and picked him up at his house. The three of us went to Borders and the Geneva Commons. I picked up my calligraphy book (I still need a pen, though...) at the former. At the Commons we checked out a couple different stores. I went to the Gap and searched in vein for a medium of the red sweatshirt I'd wanted. I ended up having them reserve it at Fox Valley Mall. We were all having fun with Becka, but her mood seemed to change at H&M. We had trouble deciding what to do, as she had to have the car back at five, so we picked up Merika in Geneva and went to Ian's where he was possibly going to follow Becka to her house in N. Aurora so we could switch to Ian's car. Instead, we said goodbye to Becka. She had a headache, but I don't think that was it. She was quiet and seemed pensive, so I hope things were alright.

Fox Valley Mall-At Ian's we ate really good macaroni and cheese while making plans to see Children of Men with Hector. I remarked that it was strange that Merika and Mike, the usual single ones in our group (well, for that matter all of us but Ian were usually the single ones) were in relationships, while Ian was single. Ian answered that he liked being single and could definitely try harder to get a relationship if he wanted to. For me, though, I want this single life to be over. We decided on the 9:15 movie. Before that started, Merika and I would hang out at the Fox Valley Mall. I drove from my house. At the mall I picked up that sweatshirt (only close me 2.57 after my 8 dollar gift card!!), I also wound up buying a cool brown shirt for 30 dollars. I knew I shouldn't have spent the money, but...hmmm, I guess have no excuse for that purchase. Merika bought cool owl earrings that she said she would wear as a teacher. After some attempted Japanese translations of Express t-shirts, and some more walking around, we headed back.

Meeting Hector-We got the movie theater a little late, but Ian was still waiting for us. We had devised a plan to pretend to be each other, but it pretty much fell flat. Plus, Hector was late (he'd gone to a more northern theater on Randall). Children of Men was a good film. I was surprised at how simple it was. I thought it'd have deep back-stories to the plot, as was the case with V for Vendetta, but it turned out to be an interesting chase movie. It went by quickly too. Anyway, I recommend it. It was very exciting and had an interesting idea to it. We said hello (briefly) to Sarah Kessich after the movie, and goodbye to Ian. Hector and Merika then followed my car to my house. I wasn't sure if it was them following me because of the fogged up back window, so I turned into the cemetery to see if they'd follow. Of course, they did. Back at my house we talked for a good hour and half. We were also waiting for Mike to come back from clubbing so Hector could meet him.

Hector seemed like a nice guy. Merika was curious if she acted one way around her boyfriend and another way around her friends, but that wasn't the case. We both agreed she was acting normally. Hector was a little quiet, but seemed cool. He and Merika were cute together. He even wants to take me on a motorcycle ride. Wooh!!

The Sleepover-I waited forever after they left for Mike to show up. I figured he's be there by two, but I wound up doodling until 2:40 ish. Finally, I came up top. Mike was there with a voice that sounded like a frog. Johnny was with him. His gas tank was on E, so we nervously drove across the river to Cassie's. Cristin, Julian, and Nicole were already there. We basically just ate junk food, were forced to watch Burnadette Peters performances (I swear, Cassie is just as into BP as she ever was into Madonna), talked, played with Cassie's dog, slept (barely), and watched some lousy horror movie called Pulse. It was worth staying up. I had a good time. My body embarrassingly spasmed itself awake at one point when sleeping next to Johnny during the movie. That is such an uncomfortable feeling!

We woke up insanely early. Mike drove me home during dawn. We were really afraid that we wouldn't make it to the gas station, but we were lucky. I said goodbye to Mike at eight something, chatted with Mom a bit, and went to bed. At eleven she picked me up and drove me back to NCC. All in all, it was one awesome Saturday!

Classic Party
Today was alright. I really didn't do much until the night. Classes were uneventful. Japanese was review for the most part. I ate lunch with the 3rd floor kids and worked on my drawing project for 50 mins. in my dorm room. I called Ian, my mom, Merika, and Aimee at one point because I was desperate for Friday night plans. Though nothing came out of my phone calls, it was good to talk to my friends. It's only been five days, but I miss them!

At five something I went over to Calaya's room to watch America's Next Top Model (a predictable show) and eat pizza with Tia, Ashley, Calaya, and some of their friends. I love Calaya's room's. It's very cozy and eclectic. At seven something I got back to my dorm and set it up for the party...which took no time at all because all it involved was me pulling out my big pillow. After some waiting around and finding people, I wound up in my room with Caroline, Melissa, Adrian, and Matt playing Scategories. Adrian won, but it was a lot of fun in the process. I swear, people try to get by with some pretty lame answers. Caroline had "Janitorial Studies" as a school subject for J! And I'm not even going to start on Jelly Ice cream...

We finished and planned on watching Donny Darko. Calaya, Ria, and Scott showed up, just as Matt, Caroline, and Adrian left. We decided to go down to Scott's room (with giant pillow in tow) to watch it. It was much cozier there. Alex watched with us for a while, but fell asleep. We'd all seen it before save for Ria, who liked it. Though I've seen it five times now I still felt at the end like the five of us in that little room really shared in an experience together. When "Mad World" came on I felt closer to the people around me because we were feeling the same emotion.

in other news, I have to wake up early tomorrow to do a formal clothing photo shoot in downtown Naperville with Calaya for Scott. I guess we're going to play a couple but will have duct tape over our mouths with different kinds of expressions drawn on them. I don't know what the project's for, but it sounds really interesting.

Oh, and I've decided to end this whole "friends only" business. I like the idea of someone being able to just stumble across my blog and check out my life. If something's more personal, I'll make it "friends only" but besides that, read on world.

Transitioning
Thinking about today I started to get frustrated because it's just not been very exciting. Yesterday was dull too. Clubs haven't started, I don't have homework, so I have way too much time on my hands, I have classes, and my friends aren't around. Thinking more about it I realized that this is college and unfortunately it's not going to live up to the fun of my winter break. So, I'm just gonna have to get used to the monotony of school.

What did I do today? Went to art class where I drew figure drawings of the other students. I made attractive rocker Doug from my floor look like a lime. I ran errands in Old Main, studied Greek, drew, went to Walgreens, hung out at the Cage and on the third floor, and figured things out with Calaya.

So, here's the exciting stuff that happened. My creative writing slam is coming together. I reserved the Boilerhouse cafe basement for it next Friday. I already know at least ten people are coming! Also, I talked to Calaya and Diana about the talent show and it's a go. Calaya loves the wacky Devo song "Peekaboo" that I'd like to make a dance to. Oh, and I've decided to meet Bobby with his friends at the airport on Sunday to surprise him. I was a bit nervous about doing it at first, thinking that it might be a little soon, but on the other hand it'll remind him that I'm around and maybe spark something.

The most important part of my day came at 12:30, but I'll not disclose that portion. Basically, Mike and I had an important talk on the phone for half an hour. マイクはりょしんにカムアウトをした。ままだた。受け入れらないがまた彼を愛してる。家族はちがうと思うしお母さんは泣いた。I hope that things will improve. I'm really glad it happened, though. It's a big step. It felt good to be there for friend.

Sort of a strange day
It's weird. Looking back on this day it was boring, uneventful, and too long. At the same time though it was very productive and satisfying. On just this day I managed to make a to do list, go through with it, transfer my transcripts from both NCC and BHS, get a new student ID, get an add class slip, start organizing a poetry slam on campus, study Greek, eat healthy, make a new Facebook album, and go jogging. On top of that I had two classes and wound up not feeling busy at all. Hmm...I don't know it was a strange day now that I think about it. So anyway, here's how it breaks down.

I woke up early and was super tired and hungry. I made it to my "History of Ideas" (NCC's fancy title for philosophy classes) by 9:20 and found it was taught by the obnoxious man who I'd once shared a lunch table with at an NCC banquet back in the spring. What kind of teacher talks about erect penises on the first day?! I got through the class okay though. It didn't seem too bad. We only have two essays. It's just a lot of reading and requires a lot of books. My strategy is to get as many as I can from the library. From there I had David Seguin over, read him my personal narrative I wrote the night before, and went to lunch. After lunch I started organizing a poetry slam for a week from Friday, mostly because I was shocked that NCC didn't have one...and I felt like riding the party planning wave I was on over the break. I ran some errands in Old Main before Japanese, hung out some more in my dorm, and then returned for class. Japanese class was OK. I met David's cool, new roommate Erik. He was a little startled that I already knew so much about him, and that many of the kids in the class knew David. The class went well. It was easy. We introduced ourselves and talked about our break. I was surprised at how easy it was for me to speak Japanese again.

For the rest of the night I hung around and did basically the things I mentioned in the first paragraph. Dinner was alright. I really am not adjusting back to dorm food very well, but if I don't eat then I die, right? I studied my Greek words and practiced writing down in the lounge and then went for a jog with David and Jill. I was excited to find that Jill and I had had very similar emotions over the break. We both didn't work and were bored out of our minds for the first couple weeks. Then when our friends came home we had a lot of fun and didn't want to go back to NCC. David was quiet during the run, and I wondered if something was wrong.

So, all in all, it was a good day, I guess. Boring, but productive.

Happy Birthday Johnny. Happy Birthday
Today...today was fun. I got up at nine and was in drawing class at ten. We spent the first day just drawing lines, slanted lines, ellipses, circles, and simple geometric combinations (vases, cubes, bottles). It was fun to finally be in an art class again. The teacher seems nice. I spent the time after class until two eating tomales, finishing decorating my room, and going to Barnes and Noble with Melissa. I was looking for a gift for Johnny. I wound up getting him the 101 Things to do Before You Die book that Kirsten has. Melissa came back to my room to hang out. At 2:00 mom picked me up. She was going to take me to Batavia, but Mike called last minute, and we had to stop in the break down lane temporarily until I figured out where we were going. She wound up taking me to the mall.

As I suspected, Johnny and Mike were there together, so I was afraid of being a third wheel. I guess the day for me was really a way to see if I could get back into the running with Mike for Johnny. I dressed in my coolest combo, tried to be really funny, and got him a cool gift. Eventually, I knew that it was futile. We still had a lot of fun. Johnny got a job at A&F, and we went to a bunch of cool stores. We met up with his friend Julian eventually, who was constantly on his phone. We set up plans for the night and left around five. We briefly stopped in at Toys R Us and then got to Chili's. I knew by then, after the mall experience, that it was all over for me. I realized that I shouldn't be down, though. Bobby was coming back, so I had a chance there, Mike seemed to really want to pursue a relationship with Johnny, and Johnny and I had a friendship, so there was that. Julian, his friend (gf?) Ebony, Cristin, Cassie, and Nicole Paveza were all there. I pulled Cassie away at one point to talk to her about where I stood in the whole Johnny thing. Mike and I spoke about him a little in some Greek/Latin/English mixtures. I told him that Johnny really liked him. Mike left at one point and Johnny told us how he felt about Mike and if he should try to go out with him. We all said yeah. I said Mike was a cool guy and they would be good together. Of course, I wanted Johnny, but friendship comes before all of that, so I had to do what was right. When we left I decided to ride with frustrated yet funny Nicole to let Mike and Johnny have some alone time.

When we got the bowling alley it was a sealed deal. They were an item. Johnny pulled me into the bathroom to discuss it with me; Mike and I talked in the arcade. I was really happy for them, but of course disapointed as well. I think Bobby really will be a better fit for me, but I'm still not sure if that'll pan out. Johnny is just such a nice, attractive, good guy, but I have to be realistic. We bowled two games. Even though I had bumpers, I did pretty well, I though. 127 and 115. Mike managed a 145 in his second game though! The whole time, Cassie and Nicole took tons of pictures, many of Mike and Johnny. They were both really excited about how things turned out, and I tried my best to be right there with them. We said our goodbyes in the parking lot, Cassie drove me home after dropping off Lauren and Amy her and Cassie's friends who had just returned from living in Korea.

I guess I'm bummed because at the start it seemed like Mike and I really had an even shot with Johnny. I feel like if only I had exchanged numbers with him in the club instead of Mike, our roles would be reversed. Still, that may not be true. I did get a new friend out of all of it, and a new group to hang out with. A relationship will be great for Mike. He deserves one. And well, there's always Bobby. So, I just have to stay positive.

*sigh* I'd really like to be in a relationship, but I have to let this one go.

An odd day
Today was a jarring contrast to the excitement of yesterday. On Sunday, Aimee, Nancy, and I threw a New Years Eve dance party and Nancy's. It cost us 56$ in decorations, but it was worth it. The house looked great. We had balloons and streamers all over. Esther thought up the idea to put little instructions on stars all around the room. The guests had to pick a star and do what it said. Some were "introduce yourself with a bow" (Mike's star) and "Kiss someone at midnight" (Sabrina's). A good amount of people showed up, including Kirsten and Wesley. They didn't dance much, along with much of the guests are the beginning, so Aimee, Mike, and I had to dance with each other for a while to Mike's awesome mix CD to try to inspire everyone else. When Paul showed up, Aimee and I did our kooky Devo introduction dance. We had to start over once, but I think everyone enjoyed it. Things died down towards the middle of the party, but picked up around midnight. We watched the ball drop, Merika showed up, and we got to dancing again. Mike missed out on limbo, as he left soon after midnight. Aimee was feeling down, but we all did our best to cheer her up (which was mostly a lot of cheek-pecking). A couple of us called Melissa at WONC, and things wrapped up at 1:30.

Today, was odd, like I said. Merika and Aimee slept over. They left around noon. I spent the rest of the afternoon washing my clothes and packing, as Miles and my Mom somewhat rushed me. I guess I unknowingly screwed up Miles' schedule (he'd wanted to go to the Mac store), but we figured everything out in the end. Graham and I have been fighting lately via e-mail, and when I read the latest one he sent me, I couldn't take it. Grahams' the only person I've ever been able to say I look up to, and to be fighting with him is just really hard for me. I wound up crying a little, and sent him a message back saying that I just need a break from communicating with him for a while. I cheered myself up with Xmas cookies, eggnog, putting on nice clothes, and playing funky music. I'm also kind of stressed about going back to NCC, so I badly needed to relax and unwind.

Mike instant messaged me at one point telling me that, マイクとジャニーは昨日の晩マケオウトをしたそしてspent the whole 晩は話してた。I was disapointed, of course, but I tried to be happy for him. It's definitely not the end of the world, and he did tell me that ジャニーは僕が大好きだそひて that I was invited to his party so that was good news.

I'm excited about tomorrow. I'll be in a new art class, Adrian will be around to talk to, and I get to go to that party, so let's we what happens.

I made two new years resolutions. One was to really redouble my efforts on studying Greek and the other one was to stay positive. I hope I can go through with both.
