Tut for PS7
PS7 tut. for:
6 easy steps. So easy you'll feel dumb...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Layer 1

I took this picture from here, resized and cropped it. I also sharpened it. The icon is 100x100 but I left a space on the top of about 10 pixels.

Layer 1 copy

I duplicated the first layer and set it on screen.

Screen

I used this gradient and set it on screen. (Opacity 100%)

Layer 1 copy 2

I duplicated the first layer and set it on soft light.

Gradient

I used this gradient from crumblingwalls and set it on multiply. (Opacity 50%)

Result

And than, to finish my icon, I used a "border" brush that I made myself and added some text (Copperglate Gothic light 2pts) and voila! Nothing easier than this one, huh!!

6 easy steps. So easy you'll feel dumb... haha. I feel like that everytime you post a tut. Cause they look so hard, and then you make them seem so easy!

Thanks!

LOVE IT. I'm trying it right away on a Gilmore icon I've had saved incomplete for ages. Sometimes I can't figure out what would look good and just stash it away, and I think this might help out. :D And I'm definitely adding this to my memories - thank you!

Lovely tutorial! I added this to my memories and am about to go try it out :)

Also - I know you just made one, so this is somewhat silly - but would you ever consider doing another? Like, maybe for this one or one of your other blue-themed icons?

I made it the same way with the same technique and same layers... the only difference is that I used a blue gradient (on screen) instead of an orange gradient...

You know?
It's great to see that you as an icon maker I so admire, also doesn't use a lot of layers and other things. I love the more simple icons and you do that so amazingly well, though in a way they never look simple.

But this is a great tutorial. I love the way you displayed it and it was so easy to read. I love the way you created the color here, so I'm going to try that out soon. And thanks :D

Not trying to but in - but different images get different results. Just play around with opacities and adding different layers.
