I haven't been writing for awhile. It's been a busy few weeks!
Jon had his surgery on the 17th. Everything went well. His rehab is progressing slowly but steadily. He went to the doctor on Friday and got nothing but positive remarks from his doctor, so that is good. He is in much better spirits now as his rehab has been cut down from 6 hours a day, every day, to 1 hour 3x a week at the physical therapy place + an hour or so of exercises at home.
Things are going well with the whole move-in thing as well. We're still taking it slowly, but progress is being made, which is the important thing. In a couple of weeks we are doing a walk for epilepsy. (Thanks to
magickchild for supporting Team Bacon!)
I've been knitting a lot. I'm starting to get a feel for what yarns I like and don't like. Next I am going to try and teach myself increases and decreases in hopes of knitting a dishcloth. I also need to finish the scarf I've been working on.
I went to Door County this past weekend with friends and it was a ton of fun. We painted pottery and went to wineries and played guitar hero. All in all a fun weekend. I am strapped for cash for a few weeks now, though. I didn't realize how much I had spent until I saw my Chase statement - yikes! Luckily I have Guitar Hero and lots of New Glarus and Bell's beer to entertain me until then.

Haven't done one of these in awhile. Thanks,

I think all this meme has done for me is made me realize that I need to update my interests. ;)

We have to be at Northwestern at 6am for Jon's surgery tomorrow. Someone pass the coffee.
My best friend from high school is expecting! I'm so excited for her. I picked a good time to learn how to knit, what with 2 good friends having babies this year. :)
I'm starting to work on downsizing my stuff. It sounds like we're going to end up pitching or storing most of the stuff we have and starting anew.
Things we're looking to buy:
new mattress
2 flat TVs (one big for the living room, one small for the 2nd bedroom)
new couch for living room
daybed or pullout couch for the second bedroom
drop leaf table
I hope noone minds when I knit them all their Xmas gifts, as I'll have no money.
We've also been talking about where we'd move next. It's looking like a suburb move - only problem is that we're really limited in where we can go. Forest Park would be a good start, but it's still in Cook County, so hi insane taxes and hi bad schools. Other choices are Glen Ellyn (bah), Wheaton (I am not church-y enough), and Villa Park (doubtful). Soooooo.....I wouldn't be shocked if we got out of Chicago entirely. Too expensive-y, not accessible enough.
Jon's surgery is this Thursday. Ugh for him.

I sure did just spend my first ever night in a hospital! (And no, this isn't an April Fool's Joke.)
Jon came home and found me in pain on the floor - the pain was all in my abdominal area. He took me to the ER at Rush, and after a 7 hour wait, I finally got in to see a doc at 2:30 AM. They did a CT, gave me IV fluids, did some blood work, and pronounced me fit as a fiddle. I have to go back if the pain returns, but all of my tests were normal, so they discharged me around 8:30 AM this morning. That doesn't solve the problem of WTF caused all the pain in the first place, but I'll worry about that if it comes back.
Rush is horrible, btw. Don't ever go there for emergency care.

Oy vey.
Tonight is stupidity on the internets.
Apparently, if you don't participate in earth hour, you hate the environment and are akin to folks who dump toxic waste into the oceans. At least, according to the folks on Yelp.
Never mind that all my bulbs are CFLs, I only have one light on at a time (maybe 2 if I'm in the kitchen), I only watch about an hour of TV a week, I hardly ever drive anywhere, I'm one of the only people in Chicago who recycles (Chicago's recycling program is a joke), and I unplug my non-essential appliances when I'm not using them. Apparently not participating in an event that is not really going to change anything makes me a bad person. Never mind that half the people who were berating me were using their computers during the hour. (Hi, do you think your cable modem runs on batteries?)
Typical - spend thousands of hours and dollars on an event that will make people feel good, but will do absolutely nothing to provide any real change. Kind of like the whole "don't buy gas on Wednesday!" forwards that go around. Americans are great at empty gestures, but horrible at making any sort of real change that will decrease energy consumption in this country.
WWF - next time, spend the time, money, and manpower promoting ways to really decrease energy consumption over the long term. This is not going to cause anybody to change their energy consumption. Thanks for playing, though.

I am old. But people are awesome. Jon got me a spa day (SQUEEEE!), and Tiffany sent me an edible arrangements fruit bouquet with chocolate. YUM!
A winter storm watch ON MY BIRTHDAY???????
Epic fail.
Epic fail.
Jon will be 35 in July, whilst I will be 29 in just 1.5 short weeks. *cry*
Between the two of us, we have a lot of crap that we've accumulated over the years. Better yet, between the two of us, we have > 2 of just about everything.
We're both starting to inventory what we have, so we can figure out whose stuff goes where. A lot of both of our stuff will go into storage, as, well, downsizing from 2 people in 1800 sq ft to 2 people in 900 sq ft will require it. (Unless we want to not be able to sit on the couch or open the front door, things I consider to be kinda important).
To tell you a bit about us, here's a bit of our inventory:
Wine openers - 5
Beer openers - 3
Computers - 3
Wine fridge - 1
Beer fridge - 1
Bottles of ibuprofen - 7 (!)
Coolers for picnics - 3
Video game systems - 3
Bowling balls - 1
Bowling shoes - 6
Games - 15(?)
There's obviously going to have to be a yard sale or something in the near future. Because OHMYGOD, we have a lot of crap.

I'm back from Costa Rica. And exhausted.
I put up pictures on facebook. I'll get the flickr album in order....sometime.

I can't believe we're going in the morning.
We have a connection in Houston, and the weather is supposed to be awful.
Here's hoping everything goes smoothly.

The list of things that needs to get done before I leave for my trip is a bit staggering right now.
1. Finish packing, check list twice
2. Clean out fridge
3. Take out trash
4. Stop mail
5. Unplug electronics
6. Laundry
7. Check in Online
8. Schedule car to airport
9. Make copies of my passport
10. Locate tank tops
11. Purchase 1 more pair of capris or shorts
12. FINISH MY EFFING REPORT
13. Wash dishes
14. Pack carryon
15. Call credit card companies, warn them of impending international travel
I'm having a hard time getting excited. It doesn't seem like we're leaving in 54 hours.

I am signed up for updates on nkotb.com because, well, it is my goal to get the best tickets possible when they do their reunion tour. Well, tonight I got a note that said that the website had been updated. So I surfed on over there, and squeed in delight. All the old videos are there for you to watch! I'm currently watching "Cover Girl", which is a song I had forgotten about until recently.
And now my phone is ringing off the hook because I sent out a mass text message about this development. SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Illini,
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
MAKE YOUR EFFING FREE THROWS!
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
MAKE YOUR EFFING FREE THROWS!
I haven't really written much lately about what I've been up to, so let's recap.
Becky is teaching me how to crochet. Her, Mariah, and I had a fun night on Saturday drinking Bailey's, eating pizza, and "crocheting".
My first project:

A penis!
Mariah's first project:

A tampon cozy!
Yeah, we're dorks.
We didn't do anything for the Super Bowl. Anna had a party at Tavern, but ugh. That place is douchebag central, so I just couldn't stomach the thought of spending time there. Nick and Emily had a party in Bolingbrook, but we were worried about the long drive after the game - lots of drunks out there. Besides which watching the game at home afforded me the ability to call my dad every five seconds to bitch about the Giants.
Otherwise, we've been laying pretty low. It's the perfect time of year to say "screw it" and cuddle up on the couch in front of the fire. It's too cold, too snowy, and too gross to go out much. Jon is laying low in hopes that the seizure event from January 1 is not repeated. And we're both trying to save money for our trip, which we leave for in a week and a half. I'm getting so excited for it.
I think I have plans with Hannah this weekend. Hannah and I are also going to see the New Pornographers and Okkervil River on April 20 - yay! And I think I'm having lunch with Dorothy and Biana on Saturday, which will be fun.
I found out that the APO gang is heading up to Door County the first weekend in May, so we're tentatively planning on joining them for that. Julie's dad has a cabin that is 2 stories, 2 kitchens, 3 hot tubs, and a huge TV. Should be an awesome time.
We're also supposed to head to Door County with my high school friends and their spouses the last weekend of June. I better get going on the arrangements for that, eh?

Tomorrow is Super Tuesday. VOTE. You have no reason not to. No lame excuse you come up with is more important than participating in the democratic process.
GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
