Just in time...

... to start knitting for holiday gifts.

I think I'll be finding myself up that way every once in a while.

Presenting Barnabas

:D

I got a dog!

His name is Barnabas and he's a Corgi/Flat Coated Retriever mix.

He's incredibly sweet and shy and we just love him to pieces.

I've taken some pictures, and so has Jimmy, but they're not uploaded yet. I'll post some as soon as we get them up.

Question

Does anyone know of a good resource to transfer old reel-to-reel audiotapes to digital?

My dad has a whole box of audio correspondence between him and my Mamaw from while he was in Vietnam and we'd like to get that saved on DVD.

Thanks.

Paraphrasing Bette Davis:

"My mother always taught me to speak good of the dead. Jesse Helms - he's dead.

Good."

First day scootin'

I got to ride Mojito to work today. It was pretty uneventful, but State Street is way scary for me. It's so wide that if I got in any trouble, I'd end up like a pinball. I'm going to keep it to 700E, I think. Only 45 mph and only 2 lanes on either side. People are in less of a hurry on 700 than they are on State, too.

It was the perfect temperature, and I got to smell roses and treeflowers all the way to work (except for the small stint on State that smelled like exhaust). Somewhere up on 3rd there was a spill of some red fruit/vegetable on the road that, as I passed over, I discovered was strawberries. Smelled GREAT, but of course I immediately thought about passing near my first dead animal and that made me sad.

Everyone on the road was great, gave me plenty of room, and Mojito can really pick up the pace so I was able to keep up pretty well. The only driver who gave me any sort of hard time was a stupid H3 guy who pulled out about 3 inches behind me and then zoomed around me. I then was able to pull up next to him at each red light he hit. *roll eyes* Loser.

I'm looking forward to the commute this summer.

mini-zoo

I'm looking to add a dog to the household of 4 cats. I don't know a lot of people who have both dogs and cats, so I'm looking for any input.

I'm looking to get a smallish dog, depends on what I fall in love with at the shelter - I was thinking shih-tzu to corgi size, so I'm hoping that minimizes terror factor, but seems like it will increase yapping/herding factor. Also, none of the cats has ever cohabited with a dog before.

Does anyone have any tips?

Walkaboot

This is a very neat little site. You type in your address and it will show you a list of grocery stores, bookstores, convenience stores, coffee shops, etc. that are in walking distance so you can try to adjust your car usage by walking instead of driving.

My location is rated somewhere in the middle between best and worst, but I was pleased to see how much is within just a mile and a half.

Try it out!

w00t

Now I get to read this 54-page beast of a PDF for the closed-book motorcycle test. I'm hoping to be legal to ride by this week, so I better start cramming.

Lordy.

This just feels like the most self-indulgent picture ever.

But I like my new toy.

And what's up with the fact that it's June 7th and I have to put a jacket on to go outside??

Holy Crap

I just bought a Vespa.

Posty today

Favorite quote today on Overheard in New York:

One-eyed Armenian worker, pointing to sample bottle of Vampire wine:
Would you like a taste of this wine? It's half blood, but only the blood of pretty girls, I only drink pretty girls.

stuff and things

Had a disappointing day yesterday.  On Wednesday, I went to Eco Moto and picked out this cute little number:

I had the guy stick a "sold" sign on it and went to the bank the next day to get the loan. I was all approved and called Eco Moto to verify the amount I needed the check cut for and ... well ... they had sold my bike. The last red one in stock. I could go for orange (but it's not the orange I like) or green (but I'm not totally sold on seafoam), but ... it was MY BIKE, dammit.

I was so sad.

I'm over being angry, I understand that they're in business to sell things and the person who bought it had cash-in-hand, but you DON'T TAKE THE SOLD SIGN OFF, PLUS, the guy who I talked to didn't ask me for money down. If he had, I would have put money down. *sigh*

Anyway, I think I'll go back in and take a look at what they've got. I'm waffling on upgrading to this juicy little guy:

They've offered me $50 off of any accessory because of the mixup, but I may be able to whine my way into a bigger discount.

In other news, I'm seriously thinking about getting my hair cut like this:

What do y'all think?

This looks like fun...

1. Think of the first word that comes to mind when you think of me.

2. Go to Google Images and search for that word.

3. Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results (don't tell me the word).

4. Put this in your own journal so that I can do the same.

May. 20th, 2008

I'll give it a try...

If you'd like, comment on this entry, and I will honestly, to the best of my recollection:

1. tell you why I friended you.
2. associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc.
3. tell you something I like about you.
4. tell you a memory I have of you.
5. ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
6. tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

In return, you can post this in your LJ.
