meme!
Those were the days...

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now (even if we don't speak often or ever) please post a comment with a completely made up, fictional memory of you and me.

It can be anything you want - good or bad - but it has to be fake.

When you're finished, post this little paragraph in your LJ and see what your friends come up with.

i'll cover you
So, I spent the weekend with my Niki, who is now a married woman and I am left standing here going WTF when did we get all grown up? (I actually got back Sunday afternoon, but have been at work pretty much constantly from then til now.) It was a beautiful ceremony, she was gorgeous, I know they're going to be very happy together. And I miss her already.

i are sheep

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than twenty icons, post them all. If you have between twenty and fifty icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, and what significance it has.

Went out with my mom this afternoon to track down shoes for teh Niki's wedding. Found some. Will have to learn how to walk in heels. (They're not *horrible* heels, but they are more of a heel than my sneakers-wearing-self is used to.)

MY MOM: Worth it, right? You only get to be in your best friend's wedding once.
ME: Right.
(pause)
MY MOM: Or twice.
ME: Three times, tops.

NO SERIOUSLY IT WILL ONLY BE THE ONCE. But I thought it was funny?

heroes s3
So. Lots of my flist has been talking about Heroes' third season. Good, bad, mixed reactions.

I never actually finished watching season two. I don't have an explanation for this. *cough* So, um. Guys. Should I be watching season three despite not having seen season two? Should I actually be making an effort to finish season two rather than continually postponing it? Should I just give up on the franchise? I don't know.

how did the perfect girl land the housewares employee?
Because I am random...I don't know why I suddenly felt like doing this, but whatever, it's done.

The Bechdel test as it applies to stage musicals:

Chess fails -- Florence and Svetlana have "I Know Him So Well", but as the title suggests it's a song all about the guy in their lives.

RENT passes -- because of Maureen and Joanne.

Wicked passes -- obviously. Most of the show is a conversation between two women about things other than guys.

tick tick...BOOM! fails -- although to be fair it's a cast of three, only one of whom is female, so how exactly would a girl-on-girl conversation happen?

[title of show] passes -- because of "Secondary Characters". The guys get mentioned in the song, but Heidi and Susan aren't really talking *about* them.

Zanna, Don't! passes -- because of Roberta/Kate, pre-Steve.

bare fails -- I think. Ivy and Nadia have several just-them conversations, but they're usually Nadia sniping about Ivy's boyfriends.

Brooklyn -- um. I know Brooklyn and Paradice have a couple conversations, and Brooklyn talks to her mother early on, but I can't remember if all those conversations center on Brooklyn's father or not.

Company fails -- understandably. It is a show about the relationships between men and women, and pretty much Every Conversation In The Show is about relationships between men and women.

Evil Dead: The Musical fails -- in the best tradition of B-rated horror flicks everywhere.

Altar Boyz fails -- but then, it has no female characters. At all.

Chicago passes -- "I Can't Do It Alone", "Class", probably others.

The Drowsy Chaperone fails -- while there are strictly-female conversations, they tend to revolve around relationships with male characters.

Any others?

Random note:

The weather today is really gorgeous. I mean it's rainy and wet and windy and coastal-Virginia-during-hurricane-season, ys, but it's rainy and wet and windy and coastal-Virginia-during-hurricane-season in a really pretty way that makes me glad I don't have to go to work so I can just sit here and watch it out the window of my apartment.

die, vampire, die
The last vampire is the mother of all vampires, and that is the vampire of despair. It'll wake you up at four a.m. to say things like:
who do you think you're kidding?
you look like a fool
no matter how hard you try, you'll never be good enough
Why is it that if some stranger walked up to me on the subway playform and said these things, I'd think he was a mentally ill asshole, but if the vampire inside my head says it, it's the voice of reason?

[title of show] is going to conclude its run at the Lyceum on October 12th. Yet another awesome show closing before I can get to New York to see it in person. :(

So if you have the opportunity to go see it before it closes, please do! It's probably the sweetest, funniest, most original show on the Great White Way in a long time.

Snatched from [info]kradical, again.

When you see this post a Douglas Adams quote in your blog.

It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on Earth has ever produced the phrase, 'as pretty as an airport.' Airports are ugly. Some are very ugly. Some attain a degree of ugliness that can only be the result of a special effort.

As I work my way slowly backwards through my flist...

First Ten Songs playing on iTunes after hitting "shuffle":

March of the Winkies (feat. Male Ensemble) - The Wizard of Oz in Concert
Introduction - 1998 Chess Concert Cast [10/05/98]
Swing - Seth's Broadway 101 - April 14 2008
Capablanca - Chess 2005 Bergen Cast [Norway] [August 2005]
Evil Puns - Evil Dead: The Musical Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording
Pity The Child - Chess Karaoke
Finland/Fisch Schlapping Dance - Monty Python's Spamalot Original Broadway Cast
Locust - The Frames
911! Emergency! - bare: a pop opera original cast recording
When The Sun Goes Down - Kenny Chesney

On my iTunes can be found: 9131 songs, which would play for 22.4 days continuously

Most represented artist: Original Broadway Cast, with 551 songs, which would play for 1.2 days continuously. If that doesn't count since it's technically many different artists who I just group together, The Pogues, with 243 songs, 13.4 hours.

Second most represented artist: After the Pogues? and ignoring OBC-esque groupings...John Barrowman, with 126 songs, running 6.4 hours.

Top 10 most played songs:
Um. With the oh-so-recent laptop crash, all my playcounts were erased. If I remember correctly, and I did make use of my playcounts often so I might remember this correctly, the top four or five were Pogues songs -- "Turkish Song Of The Damned", "Fairytale of New York", "Rainy Night In Soho", "If I Should Fall From Grace With God", "The Boys From The County Hell", I think? And then "Acoustic Song" and "This Town Forever", both by Endway. "Defying Gravity" by Raul Esparza. "Sally Maclennane", again by the Pogues. ...and then a Dropkick Murphys song but I don't remember which one.

you can be what you want to be...don't listen to them, listen to me
To everyone who responded to my last post: Hello, I love you, you're incredibly wonderful and I'm amazed by you all. *huge hugs* And I swear I did not mean to hide under the rock quite this long. But my laptop died a week ago last Monday, and I do mean 'died'. For good this time. It has been consigned to the electronics dustbin in the sky. I talked to the computer repair place I use and they said they might be able to fix it for like $400 and they remembered it and wouldn't it make more sense to just replace it?

So as of about an hour ago I have a brand new computer, which I am writing this to you from. I'm getting used to it, it's gonna take a while, but it's a huge upgrade from my antique POS, much as I loved that thing. This one's pretty and sleek and new and has like actual memory and stuff. Now I just need to build up something comparable to all the stuff I had on the old one...

Yeah, when I said the old one was dead? Completely dead. Not recovering anything off it. Everything I had on the externals I still have, so my music library and video files are safe, but everything else -- photos, documents, programs, fonts, all that -- pretty much completely gone. Um.

I have named the new laptop Sally Maclennane, Sally for short, because I am a dork like that. She also has a webcam, but I have not yet figured out how to use it. I'll figure it out, eventually.

In other, non-computer, RL news: Emerald Beat officially closed, a week ago last Monday. There were tears. There were hugs. There were pranks and general silliness. I miss my cast, I miss my crew -- I crashed a Monster Stomp rehearsal looking for a wrench yesterday, ran into one of my former spot ops, got tackled by a hug that took me off the ground and five minutes of conversation about how jealous I am of the MS lighting design and how much I wish I was working it. Yes.

But Jack Is Back is going to be...cheesetastic but not unfun.

I missed you guys! Once I get Sally here reasonably up to date I'm going to go as far back through my flist as I can, but if there's anything I really should pay attention to, anything you want to link me to, any news I should know about having been out of touch for almost two weeks, this is the place.

I just wanted to let you guys know I'm still alive, 'cause I <3 you guys hardcore.
