What the hell was wrong with me?

Okay, I'll admit it. 1999 wasn't my shining hour of good decision making and clearest judgment (for example). I vaguely remember seeing The Matrix. I'm pretty sure it was after it came out on video and I'm also pretty sure that I fell asleep during it. I remember thinking it was an interesting premise, but too much of a video game for me. When the second one came out, I had forgotten everything about the first one, so it made even less sense to me.

But lately I've had a hankering to watch it again. It arrived this past week from Netflix and we watched it last night.

OH. MY. GOD.

I don't understand how I did not love this movie. Keenau didn't even bug me. In fact, he was kinda hot. SO many things make SO much more sense to me now. From random quotes that folks say in the office to the boots that all the neko-kids wear in SecondLife. It's been awhile since a movie has griped me and grabbed my full attention like that. Usually I knit when we rent movies, but I didn't want to miss a single thing.

I don't know that I have any desire to watch the second and third (I know they are the suk). But I might just have to pick this one up on DVD for myself.

As an added bonus, you can now re-watch the Lord of the Rings movies and pretend that Hugo Weaving is playing Agent Smith in those. Hours of funny. Come to think of it, you can do that for any movie that he is in. Except that LOR came out about the same time so it seemed appropriate. But I digress.

By the way, we don't own a lot of movies but we do have this one, which we re-watch periodically. I really hate how they dropped the ball on the sequels though. There is no way that Neo is Jesus.

I enjoy rewatching that one, too.
The second had much of the glitz but little of the mindfarking nature of the first that made it more than just a special effects movie. I didn't bother watching the third, after the umpteenth person told me that they would have preferred a punch to the nards.
