That was the WORST CSI I have EVER seen and even Little Greg's hair could not redeem it. Not only did they give a full and frank explanation of "jumping the shark" (AS IF ONE WAS NEEDED), they also nicked a line from Sneezy :( |

[May. 13th, 2008|08:18 am] |
I just cycled in in THIRTY TWO MINUTES! Despite Multiple Towpath Error (ie the "Two Tings" ppl are all very well but they were TOTALLY blocking the path by - guess what - standing in the MIDDLE of it, though I did take a sticker. Also - don't read this bit katstevens! - there was a woman feeding pigeons UNDER A BRIDGE so that the entire path under the bridge was blocked with a mass of heaving pigeons! FFS! Oh and a squirrel ran out in front of me on Boleyn Road and stopped to look enquiringly at the enormous mass of metal and rubber and shrieking cyclist bearing down on it. Where is their fear eh where oh where)
In other news, further updates will have to WAIT as I am still totally snowed under at work. Sadface. |

| what i did at thee weekend |
[Apr. 21st, 2008|12:12 pm] |
A very lazy and almost entirely lovely weekend (the only non-lovely bit = the fact that a couple of friends are going through bad patches at the mo - sending good "vibes" to you all my lovelies) during which I:
- Drank too much BEER after work on Friday (curse you tasty Deuchars) with martinskidmore, carsmilesteve, atommickbrane and friedslice. This was obviously totally awesome but did mean that I fell ASLEEP during the ambient section of the Harmonia gig, hahaha! Harmonia were totally ace though, they managed to combine the old motorik thing with PROPER BANGING MINIMALIST BEATS at one point and I nearly fell over trying to contain my excitement! - Did All The Cooking (beans with tomatoes and sage, patatas bravas, pizza x2, digestive biscuits). Unfortunately I also did All The Eating so I have put on about 2 stone :( - Rushed around (but in a totally non-stressful way) being a social butterfly on Sunday afternoon - coffee over the road with a2, a3 (who is now a Stokey Resident, hurrah) and a4, then up to Islington to see the Gothical Hive Mind and KR, then back to Stokey on the Magical Bus for CSI:Sneezy with katstevens and boyofbadgers hurrah! - Did exciting grocery shopping (alas the "exciting" bit is a bit of a lie, there) - Got Exciting Post from strange_idol! The "exciting" bit there is NOT a lie! - Did lots of lovely sleeping and pottering about and reading the paper and drinking tea with my lovely PM - Failed to get ANY washing or tidying done, haha I am useless :( Washing and tidying are therefore my tasks for tonight.
Things I need to Sort Out This Week include: - various bits of correspondence - aforementioned washing and tidying - re-entering the Land Of The Sober - oh goodness, sorting out the balcony... - updating the 101 list as I've made a bit more progress on that too! |

The more GOTHICALLY-minded ppl on my friends list may like to note that on 30th April the Borderline Club is hosting "An Evening With James Marsters". This fact made me larf like a drane as I stood shivering outside the Borderline last night before, going to IN to the club see Jana Hunter and Phosphorescent play an gig. Jana Hunter was pretty awesome; she has a Proper Country Yowl on her and plays submariney guitar through a bunch of delay pedals. Oh, and she looks about 12! I had to leave after one Phosphorescent song, as I was about to fall over through tiredness, but I did see him make a GRATE BIG NOISE with his amplified nylon-string acoustic, and sing a song about some wolves. And I got to cuddle PM lots and drink orange juice and talk to A4 and Mat, so that was all good :)
Tonight I am going to see ancient Krautrockers HARMONIA play on the South Bank! I am super-excited bcs a) mmm Krautrock and b) mmmmmmm seated gig, god I am so old :)
How are you lot? What you up to at the weekend? |

Last night... 17.15: Flatmate calls me, I am still at work! She says that she's found a flat she likes and has put a holding deposit on it! I go SQUEAL and arrange to meet her in the pub EVEN THO I am not drinking on skoolnights! I plan to drink oranj juice! You can see where this is going, can't you! 1800: I get to the pub! Flatmate and Flatmate's Bestmate have a bottle of wine! I partake! It would be rude not to! 2045: Three bottles of wine later, we leave the pub! And go home! Via Tesco! Where we buy more wine! And drink it!
This morning... I am hungover! Also: an idiot! |

In my bid to Eat More Healthily From Now On (Or At Least Not Eat So Much Crap), I bought a salad-bar salad from Waitrose for lunch, and UGH! Everything is covered in icky grease! That'll learn me. ( Anyway. )
Today my wisdom teeth are niggling at me, and I've spent most of my time at work running after academics with my POINTY EDITORIAL DEADLINE STICK in hand *sigh*
ION: Rex the Dog is SNAPPING at Greg's husband-list heels, once again...
[0] ie. running about in posh frocks and silly shoes, totally p1ssed. JUST LIKE OLD TIMES, ahhh Cambridge etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc ad infinitum [1] Shopping in Cambridge is brilliant actually; they have all my favourite shops e.g. Neals Yard Remedies, FOPP, H&M etc but it's magically all squidged into an area less than half the length of Oxford Street. I bought lavender oil, another BRA, a silver chain and no less than SIX CDs from FOPP. One of which, it transpires, contains a track by Does It Offend You Yeah, oh dear[2]... NO MORE SHOPPING FOR ME. [2] Oh go on then, they were: Kitsuné Maison compilation 5 (which is full of trendy music for young people), Missy Elliot's grebtest hits, the Luke Slater Fabric comp, DE9/Transitions by Ritchie Hawtin, The Trinity Sessions by those Cowboy Junkies, and the Felix Da Housecat album which everyone except me bought about 7 years ago. |

Hurrah hurrah hurrah I SUCCESSFULLY DJed at Poptimism! Here is a (mostly-complete and in approx the right order, tho I'm sure I've forgotten something) setlist:
( Here it comes )
Things that I totally had ready but did NOT get played in the end: ERASURE, Men Without Hats, moar Dre, BUSTA RHYMES. So er yes sorry to the ppl I was whinging at before the night began, obviously there was nothing to worry about and I hadn't forgotten how to play records at ALL and I had a GREBT time at Poptimism (no change there then :)) Thank you for dancing!
I have mainly spent today frolicking in the snow, eating CHIPSES for breakfast and making muffins!
[0] Hahahaha this was TOTALLY played especially for PM as apparently one of the guest vocalists on this song is him out of Broken Social Scene! So there you go, I have TOTALLY played Broken Social Scene at Poptimism, or something ;) [1] At this point I looked up and there were RANDOM PPL in the room, and they were DANCING! |

[Mar. 27th, 2008|06:34 pm] |
MMMMMM YOU GUYS I have just finished preparing my first ever batch of Pickled carrot sticks (cannot remember who originally pointed me towards the recipe? cis? atommickbrane?) Instead of the dill seed I used about a teaspoon of pickling spices (the pickling spices I have are from the flourbin and contain dill seed as well as mustard seed and allspice) and bunged about a teaspoon of dried dill herb into the pickling brine as it started to boil, as suggested. The quantities in this recipe EXACTLY fill one of those large jars that olives come in, you know, the 860g net weight/460g drained weight ones that you get from Crespo/Cypressa. I CANNOT WAIT to see what these are like! Will report back.
(this last bit x-posted to rubbishvegans).
Current mood: v excited :) I am also cooking chili for myself and my flatmate and may even go crazy on the pickles and knock up a batch of the Rasa garlic pickle... will it stink up the flat too much though? |

Last night PM took me to see some of yer modern classical music on the South Bank - they're running a Messiaen season at the moment and we thought we'd check it out. The first "item" on the programme was a Stockhausen piece. Stockhausen sounds like Position Normal breaking into the Radiophonic Workshop IN GERMAN. I'm not quite sure what I thought of it - I mean, it was interesting and, y'know, full of Doctor Who noises and children shouting "VIMTO!" and that, but would I sit down with a nice cup of tea and think "I know - I'll listen to some Stockhausen now"? The answer is: NO I WOULD NOT. To my shame I can't remember who the second piece was by (it was a pupil of Messiaen's, possibly er Boulez) but I think it was my favourite - a repeated theme with more and more bonkers percussion and widdly oboes being added on each repetition (best percussion was obviously the BIG GONG but there was also some surprisingly impassioned maraca-shaking going on. Oh, and RACKS of COWBELLS! MORE COWBELL ;)) Unfortunately during a pause in the second piece my stomach emitted an ALMIGHTY gurgle, and I spent the next 5 minutes desperately trying to hold in my hysterical giggles. Culture there, marvellous. The actual Messiaen piece was pretty good also, in a contemplative sort of way until it was shattered by LASHINGS of KING GONG - the gong-playing dude actually had to silence the big gong with his bottom, which led to more giggles from me. OH DEAR. Overall I had a great time, but this is definitely the kind of thing I'd see live, rather than listen to at home - these so-called moderns aren't half short on actual TUNES. And I am a great big philistine, whot of it?
Also over the weekend, I: - Got very drunk in honour of katstevens's birthday! Hurrah for Kat! - Was present at the birth of the Grand Unified Whale-naming Theory (the clue is in the subject line) - Had an almighty hangover - Made garlic bread WITH A VENGEANCE (ie normal bread, but I roasted some garlic, and then smooshed this AND some raw garlic into the bread dough as I was kneading it) and made the entire N16 area reek of garlic hurrah :) - Looked at about 1000 old photos of my family - Visited the wilds of Norfolk on Friday to see AD - Didn't get nearly enough sleep - Missed CSI: Sneezy bah
This week I will mainly be boning I SAID BONING up on my Tolkien, in preparation for Freaky Trigger And The Lollards Of Pop on Wednesday. Tune in you all! |

This weekend I have grown SQUARE EYES. I have watched:
- CLOVERFIELD - rather good, but a) dear GOD I hadn't been to the Trocadero in about 4 years and it is hellish hellish hellish in there, and b) I really wish I'd taken some motion sickness pills before I went into the cinema. Good monster though! Hell yeah! - THE SQUID AND THE WHALE - extremely indie fillum about a couple who split up and share custody of their sons. It does hate fun *quite* a lot, tho would probably get a "Barrel O'Laffs" rating on the marnameow Hatesfunometer - a bit of Firefly (am still trying to introduce PM to the wonders of Firefly) - CSI: Second Life. "Dude, you can't go in dressed like that! You look like a total n00b! Uh, sir." AWESOME what more can I say - MOAR CSI obv - Dancing On Ice - that Hollyoaks dude is quite good isn't he (NB I only watched this bcs it was on while we were waiting for CSI to come on)(also I have no idea who most of the "celebrities" are)(also LINDA LUSARDI wtf!)
This week I will mainly be catching up on all the household chores that I neglected in favour of watching TELLY. |

♥ Barbara Morgenstern. O lovely Babs. ♥ Stinky Tibetan incense from Neal's Yard Remedies. It smells like Glastonbury![0] ♥ GIN ♥ OMG PM has booked us a trip to BERLIN at the end of February (it will be our 2-year anniversary, aw look at us :)) What is good to do in Berlin?[1] Where can I learn to speak German? I haven't been to Berlin since I was on tour (man) a couple of years ago, and I only stayed there for about eight hours, seven and a half of which I spent mainly being extremely drunk (see here for evidence, tho I appear to have typed "Hamburg Privat Club" instead of "Berlin Privat Club", oops), so I have NO idea what to expect apart from a vague sense of it all looking rather industrial and depressing. Tho we're staying right near a ginormous park (the Tiergarten, which Wikipedia tells me means "Animal Garden" hurrah) so I'm sure it won't be as depressing as I remember it. ♥ MOAR GIN. Also it is the weekend, for which THANKS ARE DUE.
[0] A bit of Glastonbury not near the toilets, I should add. [1] alexmacpherson please note that we are very OLD and staying up all night in a warehouse with Ellen Allien is NOT an option. Probably. |
