This one was not so good. Both versions failed to recognize the existence of minarchists though. I can fake answers and be a libertarian or let it call me an anarchist. *sigh* |

While I have never said this to a senior one thing I have wanted to say before is "You may have walked up hill in snow both ways but you weren't a 22 year old girl spending 6-8 hours a day on/waiting for buses when The Whisper Song came out." Today I was being hit on at a bus stop and the guy came over to me and held his phone in front of my face. On the screen was a picture of his dick. I guess with the advent of camera phones we no longer have to wait to see his dick. Oh thank heavens for modern technology.... |

I'm having a very bad day but I'm actually in a great mood. Is this crazy? Maybe it's because I've been sick and this is the first day on the way out of the sickness. Maybe it's because of people online being freaking adorable. I really don't know why. I have NO IDEA what I'm going to do but I'm not completely overwrought w/ stress even though I was when I thought this might happen and made preparations to keep it from happening, but now, when my safeguards have been blown to hell? No stress. Some kind of mental health survival thing? The typelogic major challenge assertion of my type? The desperate optimism? Whatever it is it's kind of neat. |

Political Survey

Would you do meth if it was legalized? People for the most part ignore laws they disagree with. The number of people who use meth while it is illegal is pretty much the number of people who would use meth if it was legal. This was also a really strange drug to pick for this as meth is not really a "responsible" drug. Marijuana would have been a better pick as the number of people who use marijuana on a semi-regular basis would probably increase somewhat as law-abiding types who tried it in college come to treat it like alcohol. Meth isn't really a casual, weekends only kinda drug.
Are you for or against abortion? I am pro-life on a personal level. I'm adopted so that's kind of a given. There is no way I could have an abortion w/o massive massive guilt and regret and I probably could never look at a friend the same if she had one. Politically I am pro-choice. Half the people in the country do not view a fetus as a human and thus are not going to view terminating a pregnancy as killing a person. This means abortion being illegal would just lead to a large black market. Black markets should be avoided as much as possible as they are the cause of much ill in society.
Would our country (United States) fall with a woman president? Was her campaign run on a promise to cover the US in banana peels?
Do you believe in the death penalty? (I hate these "believe in" questions by the way. I keep wanting to be like- well I'm pretty fucking certain it exists so yes.) No I do not support the death penalty. I do however believe it is okay to take out a government leader who is slaughtering their citizens.
Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already? Yes.
Do you believe in God? I'm agnostic.
Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized? I believe marriage should be privatized. I find marriage licenses abhorrent. How ridiculous is it that we have to ask the government's permission to get married? As long as marriage isn't privatized though I think the 14th amendment makes it kinda necessary to allow same sex marriages.
Do you think its wrong that so many Hispanics are moving to the USA? I favor open immigration. There should be a process. But it should be a much simpler process to go through than it currently is and no one should be denied unless they have a criminal background. A VALID criminal background. Someone who has murdered someone does not get in, someone who criticized their government does.
A twelve year old girl has a baby...should she keep it? It's not her decision. She is a child. She will not be the one responsible for the baby. The decision is her parents.
Should the alcohol age be lowered to 18? Yes. There is no age at which people magically start drinking responsibly. I'm a taxi dispatcher that works Friday and Saturday nights. You can take my word on this one. That being said I think that it is ridiculous that we have an age limit past the age limit for adulthood on something.
Assisted suicide is illegal...do you agree? No. But it doesn't count unless the person being killed has made their desire to die known to more people than just the one killing them. Preferably in writing. Preferably notarized.
Do you believe in spanking your children? It wouldn't be their primary form of punishment but if I had children I would spank them.
Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars? Obviously. There are very few things I wouldn't do for a million dollars.
A mother is declared innocent after murdering her 5 children in a temporary insanity case, do you agree? That depends on whether I believe that she was actually insane or if I think it's just the route her lawyer is going to try and get her off. I will say though that the temporary is an issue. If there's no history of mental illness I'm highly suspect and if she's still alive and not currently insane that doesn't look so good. Realizing you killed all your offspring while insane seems like it should be a pretty damn good trigger.
Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers? If I was why would I do this survey? |

Your result for The Harry Potter Husband Test... Mrs. Bill WeasleyYour perfect HP man is Bill Weasley.
You like guys who are cool. And not cool in that fake, dicky way, but actually cool. He's so cool that they couldn't find any actor to adequately portray him, so they decided to just leave him out of the movies rather than risk not doing justice to his coolness. He's like the Chuck Norris of Harry Potter: plain freaking awesome. When Voldemort says "You-Know-Who", he's talking about Bill Weasley. Think of the last 5 members of the opposite sex that you saw that you actually know. Now imagine what your kids would be like and list good and bad points for each. It doesn't matter if you don't like them like that you still have to imagine it.
(I can't believe I'm doing this. I'm at least changing good/bad to pro/con.)
1)Nick PRO: They'd write well. They'd look great in blue. They'd be naturals in water. CON: They'd have to compete w/ cats for attention. They'd have mental health issues. They lost so bad at having uncles.
2)Eric PRO: They would be BRILLIANT and RIDICULOUSLY intuitive. Their eyes would get greener the older they get. (This is a pro in my book.) CON: Their teenage skin would be fucking tragic.
3)Josh PRO: They'd have mad social skills. They'd have great emotional maturity. They'd love learning. CON: Coma like sleeping potential if they get Josh's sleep and my manic depression. Nick would consider them the ultimate target and scare the hell out of them in various superhero costumes.
4)Edward (MY FREAKING -BOSS-) PRO: They'd always have at least one job opportunity... They'd be really loud. CON: They'd have a half brother older than their mother. They'd be really loud.
5)Jake PRO: They'd never change who they were to fit in. They'd be really frugal. They'd be tall. CON: They'd be weird. They'd be too open minded and too honest and land themselves in trouble. They'd get sick a lot (but PRO have insane kill all immune systems.) |

| » letter to Dave Glover show |
I heard part of the show yesterday when there was a discussion of Libertarians but was unable to catch the whole segment. I wanted to make a few points in response to this.
1) There is no libertarian position on abortion. Abortion is a complicated issue primarily because the base of the issue can't be answered politically. There is disagreement on at what point (or even if there is a starting point) a developing baby becomes "human". Libertarians that believe the fetus is a human with rights are going to be prolife. There are many prolife libertarians such as the current presidential candidate Bob Barr. Those that do not believe it's a human will be prochoice. There are some libertarians who do not feel strongly one way or another and think it should be decided on a more local level of government than the federal government and some who believe it is wrong but that the repercussions of the black market are worse. The problem is that even if you tried to create a legal definition of human there are always going to be people who disagree with that definition and feel morally bound to either save children, or protect women. People like to say Republicans are prolife and Democrats are prochoice but that's not really true either. Just as with Libertarians, there is no clear party division on what people believe is human in the Republican and Democratic parties. (Maybe someday if we had many more parties you would see divisions like that, e.g. The Prolife Democratic Party, The Prochoice Democratic Party.)
2) There is also no given Libertarian position in terms of war. The beginning of the War in Iraq caused massive infighting among Libertarians. A seminar I attended full of libertarianish students ended up spending the better part of 3 days arguing over whether we had a responsibility to step in in situations such as Hitler's concentration camps or Stalin's starvation of his people. National defense is one of the proper functions of government, and the power to do so was given to the federal government in the Constitution. However the scope of current defense spending is by no means constitutional. The constitution does not even allow for a standing army. Strict constitutionalists, anarchocapitalists, and isolationists are going to be very against the use of military force for anything other than defending against invasion of the United States. That is not the case for the whole party. The one thing I would say that almost all libertarian types agree on though is that we are currently spending too much. Points that could likely be generally accepted are - A) There do not need to be as many military bases across the world as there currently are. B) Spending must be fiscally responsible. No $20,000 toilet seats. No missing funds. No funding a war that has been going on for 5 years through emergency spending bills. We have been in Iraq for 5 years. That the equipment would need to replaced over time is a given and should be funded through the general defense fund NOT through emergency spending bills that are loaded with random domestic pork tacked on. C) CONGRESS has the power to declare war. War must be declared BY Congress.
3) Drug legalization IS something most libertarians agree on. This is because the government should not be protecting you from your own actions. The government should neither tell you that you can't screw up your life nor bail you out when you do. You must take personal responsibility for your own decisions. What is illegal and legal is a mess. There is no clear distinction. Alcohol is not safer for you than marijuana. The amphetamines we give to thousands of school kids we've decided have ADD is not much different from the cocaine their parents used in the 70s and 80s. We do not spend billions stopping drug companies from producing opioids that people become addicted to and yet we do spend billions pressuring countries, destroying crops, and taking military action against places that export heroin. The real question is whether the War On Drugs is effective or even can be effective. Did less people drink during prohibition? If so was it because it was illegal to drink or because of the moral suasion of the people around them at the time that did not find drinking socially acceptable? People do not necessarily obey laws they don't agree with. The industry of traffic lawyers proves that. One caller asked who would pay for the medical care of these people. I do not think it is clear that the government should be providing medical care at all but assuming that it did so the situation would probably be very much like it currently is with smokers. The sin tax on cigarettes coupled with the earlier death of smokers (and thus the avoidances of the rash of medical conditions that come along with old age) make it so that even after the medical care for smoking related ailments the government currently turns a PROFIT on every pack of cigarettes smoked. The kind of drugs that are currently illegal would almost certainly also have sin taxes tacked on to them if they were legalized. This would just be a bonus though because the money saved simply by ending the drug war would more than make up for the increased medical expenses of additional users IF the number of new users was even significant. Legalizing drugs takes away the appeal to some users who are more interested in the first place because it's forbidden. Like high school kids are with alcohol. Another huge savings to taxpayers is that legalized drugs would end the black market for drugs and all the associated unpleasantries. You don't have shootouts for turf for products that can be purchased at Walgreens. Products manufactured and sold by companies with a name to protect and a recurring profit incentive are likely to be safer than those sold on the streets and thus the cases of users in the hospital from the mixture of their drug being more rat poison than desired drug would become virtually obsolete. American companies growing/producing and selling drugs would take away the big cash cow of the illegal drugs smuggling, some of which is done by terrorist groups to raise funds, and instead create more jobs for Americans. And the rights of citizens would be better protected. Current disputes over drugs must be dealt with by extralegal means because to take it to the courts or police is to incriminate yourself. Legal arbitration is safer for citizens AND for police. People have a tendency to confuse libertarian with libertine. Just because a libertarian believes in the legalization of drugs does not mean they support their use. The day before yesterday I heard part of the show where you were talking about learning to drink. I have no interest in getting drunk. I personally feel that people should not do so, or at the very least not nearly as often as they do. However I would never push for alcohol to be illegal because my personal beliefs are mine and if I wish to keep you from drinking the correct course is for me to try and persuade you not to do so, not to use the police to do so since (assuming you drink responsibly and don't drive drunk) you are not infringing on my rights by your personal alcohol consumption. In the same manner a drug user is not infringing on my rights just because they choose to partake in an activity I would rather they not.
Libertarians are mostly about reducing the size of government, particularly on the federal level. Many libertarians refuse to use that title for themselves, insisting that the socialists stole their name and they are the true liberals or the classical liberals. Many refuse to use that title because they feel they are the true conservatives and that the Neoconservatives and the modern Republican Party have stolen their name. All believe that there is too much government interference in our lives and in our wallets.
