I think I need a good nickname for her, how about "Crazy Train" Bachmann?

First, my boss's son had a stroke and she's trying to fly out to see him in LA this morning, which is crazy and sad.

Second, I'm so tired of this "I don't know" shit.

First, Hillary with her "I don't know" if Obama is muslim or not, now this John McCain fuckery. You don't know if he's a socialist???? STOP SAYING IDK AS SOME SORT OF SLY WAY OF AGREEING. Fucking ridiculous.

Damn you, UMN email system limits!

Soaking up the sun
You have made me entirely too productive for a Monday (I got a message yesterday that my messages will be archived if I don't sort them into folders asap). My email inbox is now down to 150 messages from 240, and I have a billion little things to do that got buried in my email. Playing hookie/hooky tomorrow will be most excellent after today!

Argh, nooooooo. *whine*

Lucy Frustration
My least favorite task at work? Taking meeting notes. I know its part of my job, but it feels very secretary-like. Also, when we type up notes, its not roberts rules style, its more massaging of the notes to make them sound good and summarized, which is weird to me. I want verbatim notes, not someones interpretation of what happened. Sigh.

Damn the man.

I has a money
I canceled two credit cards this week. It feels good, even though I had to take savings and pay them off first. I will probably cancel another of the cards when I am better able to pay it off. This will leave me with two credit cards. One visa and one store card with good perks (Gap "Silver" card, I love the 10 dollar coupons and free shipping). I really just finally came to the conclusion that if I have the card, I will buy things using it, not just my regular debit card. Then I make payments as soon as I get paid and feel like I don't have money for the next two weeks, and dip into my savings for groceries. I'm trying to break the cycle and be a more responsible adult with my money. I haven't watched Maxed Out yet, but plan on it, I'm sure it will make me more militant about this no-credit card thing.

100 Things, 11-20

Being Pretty
11. While I care about the effect that depleting the world's petroleum supply will have on the environment, I don't really care about gas prices.
12. When I was growing up I wanted to be a lawyer and work on environmental laws/issues.
13. Sometimes I feel bad for thinking that all blond women on campus look the same. Then again, usually they all look the same.
14. I don't like ham, except for 'parisian' ham I had I Paris, also translates to "city ham" I think.
15. I hate jogging with a passion.
16. I make really good potato salad. Big chunks of potato and egg and a bit of red wine vinegar makes all the difference.
17. I don't get as much work done at the office as I could, I procrastinate a lot.
18. I didn't wear jeans until I went to school. I hated the big bump in the crotch where the fabric meets.
19. I have grey hairs and am only 26.
20. I am a jealous person.

I suppose I'll just have to make a "100 things" list. Thanks Chrissa! :^)

I don't think I'll do all 100 right now, as I am technically "working", but here's a start.

I wag my tongue at you
Rather than complaining about "crazy people" on the bus system in Minneapolis/St. Paul and surrounding metro area, why not try riding the bus more often? Did you ever think that if more "non-crazy" people rode the bus, the ratio of crazy to non-crazy would improve? Or maybe stop to think why you're branding so many people as "crazy"? I usually find that this is a euphemism for non-white, poor, disabled or homeless people.

Completely superficial concerns.

Soaking up the sun
My arms are getting very tan due to sleeveless shirts. My legs are not getting the same summer glow. Should I just get some self tanner? Or find a tree to sit under this weekend and stick my legs out in the sunshine for awhile? I know, I have bigger issues in my life than this, but the capri tan is not a rockin' look.

Inconceivable!
I watched some of the Coldplay concert on the Today show this morning. I continue to not understand why they are so popular. And why is the lead singer acting like he's "rocking out"? I was thinking that I don't like their music because all of it sounds like the intro section to a more rock-type song. They never get to the good part where the drums kick in and the song gets going. Maybe someone can prove me wrong, but consider me underwhelmed.

I started looking at a local food blog today, and now all I can think about is the farmer's market. Oh, and I suddenly have an urge to bake a pretty cake. Like, immediately. Maybe I need a snack.

Boring money talk

I has a money
F-ing stock market. I have a rollover IRA, which I am contributing to until this November when I will be eligible for the faculty retirement plan account (15 % of my salary, I only have to contribute 2.5%, it seems illegal or something!). For the past couple months, the stock market has been declining such that I keep putting money into the IRA and the value keeps declining and it doesn't look like I've added to the account at all. Now logically I know this is good, sort of like dollar cost averaging or whatever (buying low while I have time for it to grow), but damn!! People in the US need to get it together and end this stupid recession, m'kay? :^)

I hope not to offend anyone, but...

Shopping Day
I simply cannot get behind the "gladiator sandal" trend. I don't know why, perhaps I'm just getting old, but I don't think they are flattering. Sort of like the ponchos of yesteryear.

This is why I can't become an alcoholic.

miranda cookie
I've already fallen off the low carb wagon at work. Three days of bagels, donuts, sweet breads and now spinach dip and baguettes is just too much!! So this weekend I'm going back to phase 1 just to detox. Maybe I'll get some detox tea or something.

I'm a bad person sometimes.

So this morning, our cat Tula was being her usual weird self, meowing, grunting and talking to us non-stop. I tried to play with her and pet her, but she was not a happy cat, but she does this a lot of mornings, so I didn't think too much of it. I picked her up for a bit and she felt warm. I looked in at her water and food dishes and realized her water dish was bone dry. Yikes, I felt so bad, as soon as I filled her dish and she saw that I was bringing it back to her food mat, she meowed real loud and ran in there. Then she drank for a good minute straight. Poor thing!!! I feel so bad about it still. No wonder she was pissy, I was trying to kill her!

I'm not usually one to do this

I haz noodls
However I'm posting a link to the donation page of the Humane Society of the United States "Disaster Relief Fund". This money will go towards rescuing animals caught in the recent midwestern flooding. After hearing all the horror stories about pets being killed during Hurricane Katrina's aftermath, I want to be sure that pets get a fair shot at survival as well. I'll be donating a bit of money tomorrow after my paycheck comes through. Think of the kittehs people! :^)

Soaking up the sun
I had a definitely high carb lunch, sugar and all, and I'm about to pass out at my desk. Just need to remind myself that not eating sugar allows me to not feel tired all fucking afternoon. It would be one thing if I had an office to myself where I could shut the door and chill for a bit, but no, I have to be productive. So, I ordered a swimsuit online. (Which was waaay more complicated than I anticipated, but I must say that Land's End has a really large selection, I give them props for that, it was too many options that was the problem)

This means I need to find a time to go to my nearby pool! Woot!

Fox News refers to Michelle Obama as "Obama's Baby Mama".

What in the HELL?!! Where are all these pissed off feminists out there now? A news network just referred to the presidential nominee's wife as a "baby mama"! Don't even try to tell me they would ever do the same thing to Cindy McCain.
