| Oct. 1st, 2008 12:28 pm Things on my mind... Trip to Pittsburgh - Sunday to next Friday.
Trip to Chicago - Friday to Sunday
Travel!
Being bummed that I will likely miss 2 weeks of B/C league because of travel.
Having finished a knitting project that I started back in May. I think I have to show it off now. ;)
Halloween costume. (or whether I will even have anything to DO that night other than... sit around)
NaNoWriMo. (November! Eeeeek! It's a MONTH from now. But it starts on a SATURDAY!)
Hockey. NHL and AHL specifically. Although NCAA is also coming into play. I need to find an excuse to go to Madison for a game. Srsly. When, though, is the issue. (note to self: check Badgers home sched.)

| Sep. 17th, 2008 06:05 pm So... Governor Arnie... vetoing an ENTIRE state budget?! Sep. 17th, 2008 05:11 pm Schwarzenegger To Veto California Budget
http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/NprProgramsATC/~3/395569611/story.php
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94729681&ft=1&f=2
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is about to become the first governor in state history to veto an entire budget. He says the much-delayed plan that lawmakers approved lacked long-term fiscal reforms and would hurt taxpayers.
+++++
My friends in California who are directly affected by this: YOU HAVE MY SYMPATHIES.
My roommate in Iowa (yes, I'm in Iowa...what?) who is indirectly affected by this (she worked for a company which processed documentation for the State of California... got laid off because of "no work"... more like "no money". Yeesh)... I want to go rip Governor Schwarzenegger's head off. Both of them. (If you are not old enough to understand what I just said you don't need to know.)

| Sep. 15th, 2008 12:22 pm Financial Health (or not) I have 4 bank accounts in 2 banks.
Bank of the West has local branches (in 2 grocery stores) so I can use that regularly. I will add that I don't know the health of Bank of the West, OR their parent company (Bank Paribas)... and the only reason I know who owns Bank of the West is that in some places, they used to be Sanwa Bank California before changing name to United California Bank, before their parent company (which I used to work for) sold them to Bank Paribas to turn them into Bank of the West branches.
Washington Mutual I have kept the accounts I had from when I still lived in California. I've had those accounts since they were Home Savings of America, before Washington Mutual bought them.
Seeing as apparently WaMu is in trouble (although this might be the "everyone panic!" scenario... which I am unwilling to discount), I am considering changing the bank that I have my paycheque direct deposited into.
I do not feel comfortable putting everything in one bank account (don't ask, I couldn't tell you anyway) so I am looking for another bank. The only caveat is that they have to be relatively national. Credit union would work, but I don't know which ones are good and which are crap. bibliovixen... what Credit Union are you with? And would you recommend them?

| Aug. 19th, 2008 09:30 pm RIP Leroi Moore... Report: Dave Matthews Band Saxophonst Passes Away
RIP Leroi Moore (1961-2008)
DMB official site - Announcement of Leroi Moore's passing
(In Memory of... wallpaper)...
ETA - As we sat this afternoon contemplating the loss of our brother, we wondered how we could possibly do a show today. Dave put it into perspective stating, "There's no place I'd rather be than here with you guys right now." We cherish special memories of our lost friend. Tonight, Dave told a story about LeRoi at a bar in Virginia where the cash register was near the stage and LeRoi leaned on the register because "standing had become a chore". Roi proceeded to play the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Dave said, "that was the day I fell in love with him. And I'm still in love with him." It's safe to say we all were in love with him. "It's always easier to leave, than to be left." -DM

| Aug. 15th, 2008 01:01 pm QC Roots/RibFest - 22-23 August 2008 Apparently originally the Jeff Coffin Mu'tet was one of the bands that was going to attend this thing.
On 09 July 2008, the following was posted:
Jeff Coffin Update We regret to inform you that the Jeff Coffin Mu'tet has canceled due to his new role with the Dave Matthews Band (DMB) for the summer. The accomplished DMB saxophonist, Leroi Moore, was involved in a serious accident, and Jeff Coffin was selected with the honor of replacing him for the remainder of the DMB summer tour.
We wish Jeff Coffin good luck on his surprise tour with DMB, and a quick recovery to Leroi Moore. We'll be announcing a new band for the festival soon.
+++++
I hadn't known he was initially supposed to be here for the Roots/RibFest thing...
I hope DMB makes use of him beyond just this summer though. He's really good! =D (no, he's not Leroi, but there is only one Leroi Moore...)

| Aug. 13th, 2008 07:03 am Olympics stuff... Another article on the Olympic Lip Synch thing
And while I can see the point of the "the girl on camera was cuter" (because the only pictures I've seen of either of them... the one who appeared to sing was cuter - and it IS opinion on my part - BUT I am also taking into account that it could have been a bad picture.), I am also thinking that the two girls could be in for peer-cruelty.
I mean, how much would ANYONE like to be known as "the girl who was too ugly to be seen at the Olympics"... or "the girl who couldn't sing so someone else had to sing for her at the Olympics".
(ETA: I understand the whole thing about "shame" and "saving face" and all that. But is it saving face when now the whole world knows? And the fact is... so do the girls and their families?)
And, really, if they want to talk aesthetics... Hu Jintao isn't exactly the most attractive person either. Maybe they should have gotten someone ELSE to "play" him for the Opening Ceremonies, and he could have given the speech and the other guy could have lipsynched.
*shrug*
As for a few other things I've heard remarked upon... I saw the bit where PLA soldiers put up the Olympic Flag... *shudder* I wish they'd picked other people to do that. (Then again, it could be said that this is the Party's finest hour. Like it or not. and I fall in the "NOT".)

| Aug. 3rd, 2008 09:24 am Note to the people of the State of California. Do ANY of you remember how Arnold Schwarzzenegger got INTO office?
I do. I voted in that RECALL election.
AGAINST the recall of Gray Davis.
RECALL THIS GOVERNOR!
After all. Turnabout is fair play. He kept saying "Davis is a terrible governor".
He has proven HE IS WORSE.
RECALL HIM!
(Note: NO I can't do it. I no longer LIVE in California)

| Aug. 1st, 2008 02:33 pm California at it again... I am STILL unsurprised that they haven't gotten a budget worked out in California.
This happens EVERY year.
Regardless of who the governor is.
However, this latest chapter takes the cake... and everything else.
State employees are apparently only going to be earning FEDERAL minimum wage, according to an executive order the governor signed.
I've heard reports that the Controller won't go along with it because California's Minimum Wage is higher than the Federal... and this would also cause trouble with the unions, etc.
It is expensive to live in California. I know. I lived there for 27 years of my life. Minimum wage isn't going to cut it.

Not mine.
Chino Hills is not far from where I used to work in City of Industry...
I am, of course, no longer in SoCal. So...
(note: I IM'd kyburg with the note (jokingly) "What's shakin'?" after I first heard about it... and got told to 'shaddup'. *snicker* Yes, I'm juvinille... what about it?)
