***EDIT EDIT EDIT ***

The bellow pricing information and slogans for the buttons for sexual violence awareness are still accurate, but Anne at Stop the Clock (www.stoptheclock.org), an organization that fights gendered violence, is now heading up the collection of donations and distribution of buttons. Please direct all donations to:
donations@stoptheclock.org

I am overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and the bravery everyone is putting forth, ready to wear buttons and t-shirts that shout out to the world that sexual violence happens everywhere, to all walks of people - all of you rock!

If you want more details about the button project, please read the full post after this one that I made with all the sundry bits about how things are progressing. Thank you!

[info]belladonnalin and are at work on the buttons. There will be two versions:

"I am a survivor of sexual violence. No pity. No shame. No silence." and, for those who don't want to out their history or who are allies:
"No pity. No shame. No silence."

I will be getting these ordered by the end of this week, but we need help. I guess I've been nominated to be the center for donations, so if you can afford to pitch in toward the buttons (1000 for $150), the place to send the paypal funds is:
jq@chambana.net

How this will work:
First, everyone who donates will get buttons. Send me your name and address in the comments box at paypal. Due to the costs to ship them to each of you individually, this is what I have worked out: for the first $5 donated to the cause, you will be sent 5 pins. After that, each additional 50 cents will entitle you to another pin. The pins cost us 15 cents each from the fabulous people at www.valiantdeath.com - they are very excited about working with us and are the best prices on the net (woman owned, independent) that I could find, anywhere. The additional 35 cents per pin is to cover shipping costs and to build up enough cash to order *more* pins to be donated to rallies, events, individuals who want to pass out lots but can't afford it, etc. There will be no excess money, I pledge to all of you that every cent will go to making and distributing more pins.

I am going to personally gather $100 in donations for the first batch. [info]belladonnalin is going to gather $30. We need to get to $150 before I can place the order and if we exceed that (wouldn't that be excellent?!) I will simply order more buttons with it.

Got any ideas on how to make this more fair or efficient? Post them or e-mail them, I'd love to hear them.

Personally, I'd like to see this turn into alot more than buttons. Like [info]belladonnalin said, "I think this is becoming a movement." Wanna make it happen?

* * * by the way, this is a public post, feel free to send individuals who want to support or help here or to link this post * * *

Spreading the word.

I don't think the $ will be a problem, actually.

I'm donating, and I'm adding you, if you don't mind - we keep crossing paths, and I keep thinking "[info]bookoflies rocks." :)

I am *totally* adding you back, since I often think the same thing about you when I run across your posts! Which style of button did you want your 5 to be?

Could I see the graphic before I donate? I'd like a button, but not if it's ugly. :)

I hope that didn't sound mean. I didn't mean to be all "your buttons are ugly"- I'm just picky.

Yippee! Please check out my newest post, its all about the buttons and what's going on with that. Thank you so much for the donation - which phrase did you want - "I am a survivor" or sans the survivor part?

By the way, has anyone ever mentioned that your user photo looks kind of like a dark-tressed Tori Amos (gods, I hope you take that as a compliment and don't hate hearing that!) ;)

Hey, lovely yourself! Check out my newest post - Anne at Stop the Clock has taken over this project and now we will not only have wonderful buttons purchased through a DIY indy business, but we will also be supporting a fabulous organization for stopping gender violence - soooo cool, no?

Absolutely - consider yourself friended! Now my sidenote - I post mostly friends only and then a decent amount on two custom filters - one for pagan spirituality issues and one that I like to call 'oh so sexual!' If you want on either filter or decide you would like on either filter later, just let me know. Anyone on my friends list is welcome to be on them, I have created them only to make sure people don't have to read posts that will bore them/make them uncomfortable. ;)

I’ve been in charge of several philanthropy fund raising events in the past. I have some good plans that helped me raise funds that you can use with out having to spend any money. If you would like me to explain one to you I would be glad to.

Hey, thanks for offering your expertise! I have actually handed over the project to the folks at Stop the Clock, a activist group fighting gender-based violence. My contact over there is Anne ([info]funnydyke) and I am sure she'd would love to hear your ideas. Thanks again!

you rock my socks. [info]belladonnalin sent me here......
I had an idea about the shirts......Have you seen the "I had an abortion" shirts that are out now?
What about a t-shirt design that (on the front) says "I survived sexual violence" and on the back "no pity, no shame, no silence"
Bold letters.....solid colors on solid-color t-shirts.
M'eh.
I'm excited about this, it IS A AMOVEMENT :)

Wow, I have not seen those t-shirts, but I love this idea! I need to edit this entry - I have turned over the production of t-shirts and buttons to Stop the Clock, an organization that fights gender-based violence. Anne ([info]funnydyke) at Stop the Clock approached me about organizing all of this from their base if they could have a percentage of the excess cash to help support their org, which I thought was a fabulous idea. So, please, send this idea over to Anne, I think she'd love to hear it! Absolutely - it *is* a movement!

Our shoppe is in Kingston NY, right now it's on Wall street but hopefully in October we'll be moving to another spot in Kingston...an old church built by the Masons about 150 yrs ago. We've signed our binder and are awaiting a closing date...we're sooo excited about it!
